Before starting your journey make sure to get yourself informed about the number one issue, flights. Whether you prefer a business airplane ticket or a low cost one, it’s always better to reserve your flight at least 1 month before the trip. If you buy the ticket a few days before leaving you’ll risk spending triple, or even worse, you might lose it for good.

In order to begin with your trip it is advisable to know some basic New York rules; the legal age to drink or buy alcohol, enter clubs or smoke is 21, unlike other countries. So make sure that when you plan your vacation you’re responsible and mature enough to manage in “The Big Apple”.  Always have some legal papers with you on the streets because you never know when the police might spot you for a routine check out.  Photo By: Ronaldo F Cabuhat

Regarding accommodation in New York it’s suitable to make reservations from time, because when you get here you’ll be tired, exhausted and not in the mood to start searching for a hotel.

Choose Time Square since you’ll definitely find the best hotels here along with basic attractions like The Empire State Building, The Statue of Liberty or Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum.  In case you’re more into some real adventure take a tour on a double decker and experience the breathtaking scenery from the top of the bus and get some more insight into the tumult and culture of such a cosmopolitan urban city.  Photo By: jver64

Whether it’s April and you’re planning on going to the Yankees stadium opening, or it’s August and you’re interested on to the film festival in Central Park, New York will definitely live up to any tourist’s expectations. Check out the best restaurants in Manhattan or pay a visit to the most innovative ones in The Upper East Side, and find out their secrets in terms of cuisine.

Decide to make the best deals every time you visit New York and remember not to leave without your fair share of shopping madness; explore the acclaimed Bloomingdale’s Soho, a gigantic world of fashion and find everything you need according to your budget and sense of style.  Photo By: Brian Einarsen

Moving forward, remember that from the social point of view, whenever you take a taxi, go to a pub or have fun in a club, employees will always expect 15% tips from the total bill. When it comes to transportation it is recommendable to take the subway because it’s cheaper and over ten times faster. New York is quite a fussy, crazy city, and therefore getting in some specific place on time is kind of impossible.

Nonetheless, you can rent a bike as well, or walk if you’re an active tourist. However, remember to have a map with you and try to avoid the dangerous, notorious neighborhoods like Bronx, Brooklyn and target the ones with cultural and historical meaning like, Central Park, Manhattan or Upper East Side.

New York is a crazy, fun city to visit. I have traveled there many times and have come to the realization that there is really no bad place to stay in Manhattan (location wise, of course). Everything is really close and convenient, and if not you can take the subway. Though if your not a big fan of crowds, you might consider going during the off-peak seasons if possible.
