Named one of the top 25 hotels in the Caribbean by Travel & Leisure and ranked among the top 50 resorts in the world by Conde Nast Traveler, this 17th-century former sugar plantation is situated hillside overlooking the Caribbean Sea and Christiansted Harbor. With 138-rooms and 340-acres of oceanfront property, the family-run resort recently celebrated its 59th anniversary with an 8.8 million/eight-year renovation. The property offers a wide array of amenities, warm hospitality and a host of recreational activities and is only a five-minute drive to the dining, shopping and sightseeing of Christiansted. On the premises are three restaurants. The Terrace, open-air dining in the Great House, serves a complimentary full breakfast and classical Caribbean cuisine for dinner. The Mermaid, beachside, features an extensive lunch menu. The Grotto Grill is a more casual option that serves burgers and hot dogs both beach and poolside. All guests also receive free breakfast. The Buccaneer offers guests use of three beaches, two swimming pools, an 18-hole golf course and pro shop, eight tennis courts, two of which are lit for night play, a fitness center and a watersports center. There is a free kids camp for children ages 4-12 years old. The Hideaway Spa, located in a renovated shopping arcade at the resort, offers massage, wraps and a menu of other holistic body treatments.
