General Description

A tropical sunlit retreat on 28 lush acres - this low-rise hotel with Polynesian charm offers a wonderful atmosphere of old Hawaii. Spacious air-conditioned guest rooms with garden or ocean views. We feature an outdoor pool in the shape of Maui and the oldest coconut grove on the island. This resort is ideal for romantic getaways and group vacations. Free parking available. Aston Maui Lu has just completed an enhancement to their walkways, reception and pool areas. The Maui-shaped swimming pool underwent a number of upgrades including the resurfacing of the pool interior and the deck. In addition, new pool furniture, picnic areas and barbecue grills were added for guests convenience and comfort. Finishing touches were made to the oceanfront rooms. Earlier this year, brand new carpet, furniture and drapes were added to each of the oceanfront rooms. To cap off the upgrades, the building exteriors and walkways were repainted and brand new lanai furniture was added for guests to relax as they take in the magnificent south Maui coast.

"I got very disappointment with the hotel. Aston Maui-Lui is in a good location, they have a huge property, however they do not take the pride to maintain their facility. The Carpet was dirty and stained, bathroom needed paint and major cleaning up . the window screen was torn and I believe asking for internet access would be asking for a luxury. passage to the room was filled with water, pavement needed a paint work,...However people who work there were very nice."

Nice location, mature landscaping, friendly staff. Crumbling walls in bathroom, leaking sink fixture, parking lot so small it was difficult to park in. Old hotel with deteriorating rooms, nice location on the beach, friendly informative staff.

This was the worst place I have ever seen or heard. Unbelievable they call it a resort and that online travel website would even have this on their site. Pool was unswimable- rooms dirty and old. I wish I could post the photos that I have.

Older hotel but very convenient to Kihei and close to beaches. It's old but my room was very clean and it was quiet. The pool is absolultely HUGE but not heated, but coming from CO. it seemed great to me. There was never anyone in the pool; I had it all to myself every time I went. I would definitely stay again because it was very beautiful and quiet. The best value I found for the money. I was rarely there anyway. Internet service avail. too, and very helpful travel/tourism lady onsite to book activities for you at no charge.

The room was okay. We have visited this hotel twice before and never had an issue, but this time was different. We asked for maid service once in the 6 days/ 5 nights we stayed there. After receiving maid service we had to go to the front desk to ask for more soap. One bar of hotel size soap is not sufficient for 2 adults... Anyway, there was a wine cork from some elses stay on the floor, birds chirping above us in the rafters, and the apperance of the room was dirty. We are very disenchanted this visit and will not be back. The hotel has gone downhill quickly, we find it to be sad due to the fact our other visits were nice, and we enjoyed our stays.

I have stayed at aston maui many times and can say that the place is nice, but there is room for improvement and remodleing. The staff is nice with the exception of a few not so friendly receptionists. the place is relatively clean, but you don't want to stay in an oceanview room, they are sandy and they only have carpet. If you love maui like we do and are in it for the scenery and a clean place to lay your head. aston maui Lu is the spot!!! ALOHA

Dont be fooled by ratings because when we booked our rooms the rating on this hotel was three stars and when we arrived it looked old, nasty and is in dire need of an update. When i talked to a manager about this three star hotel and complained that there is no way im staying in this run down hotel, convenietly the hotel rating had dropped to a one star. This hotel may not even deserve that. Beings we had paid previously through a online travel website and i had talked to them for over an hour this hotel wouldnt give our money back for us to go to an actual three star hotel like id booked. So we were stuck here for a week. The beds were uncomfortable, the shower upon arriving had hair in it.The pillows smelled as if they had been urinated on.We bought a can of lysol to spray every night on the pillows just so we could try to sleep. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. We talked to some locals they had informed us that this hotel was to be bulldozed.Just another reason why you need to print off hotel pages when you book them so you can show hotels what there ratings are online when they get changed after arriving.

Swimming pool. Roof leaking above toilet. Nice location, after all it is Maui, great pool tennis courts, lots of land, every room had a deck. Rules are not good, rooms need basic repair but they try. Staff could be friendlier single guy its fine might stay again, a family they'll be some fighting.

When I discovered that the room had 2 full size beds instead of a king, I requested a room change and got an upgrade to a one-bedroom suite. The hotel was run down. Although I saw the cleaning crews there everyday, it needed a deep cleaning, new furniture and a new coat of paint. If you just need a basic, room-over-your-head type of place to stay; this will be fine as long as you check in before sunset. I ended up checking in close to midnight due to delays, and I was surprised that I was expected to check in at the front desk, and drive across busy South Khei road to get to the parking area for my room. I was also told that parking was limited there, and if need be, I could get back in my car, drive back across the street and park in a second parking lot (dark and scary looking) then drag all of my bags back across the street and up a flight of stairs to my room which was located on the second floor of a building with no elevator. Thankfully, there was a stall available in the first lot on my first try. Still, in order to switch rooms (albeit a better one), I had to drive back to the front desk and get the new keys, then drive back to my lot and get all of my things into my new room. All of this happened at about midnight, when I was tired and alone (my husband joined me on the second night). It was all just a bit too much. Although I would say the staff is professional, I would also say that the management must not care too deeply for the safety of women traveling alone because I was never offered any assistance in getting myself or my belongings into my room safely. I would never voluntarily stay here again.

We stayed at one of the ocean front rooms at Aston Maui Lu, and the view was great. The hotel was easy access to tourist attractions in either direction. The room was very old and needed renovations. The front door looked as if it was pried into a few times with a crow bar. The air conditioner in the window worked great for the room, but drips on the walkway causes the wood to rot. The carpet had a few stains. Also, it would have been nice to have a microwave in the room to heat the baby food.

Large expanse of rolling lawn accented by palms and flowers. Easy access to beach. Limited parking in oceanfront units. Long walk to rooms in non-oceanfront units. The Maui Lu is old time Hawaii. Relaxed, friendly atmosphere. The hotel reception building stands out from the road, atop a beautiful lawn hill studded with tall palm trees, and accented with lush tropical landscaping. The staff was eager to help and met requests with Aloha.

Very easy to find, late checkout was excellent. Very old, built in 58. Staff was very helpful, after we had a late checkout, they let us keep our bags there until 8 pm, then when we came back from the beach, they let us shower and change before we went to the airport. Room was satisfactory.

Affordable, roomy, nice location. Old, habit smelly from old carpets. The Maui Lu is old but roomy. Many things like carpet need to be replaced but the staff kept things neat and there is plenty of elbow room. The hotel is located well with many affordable restaurants close by. For the price, the place was just fine.

"I was so scared to stay here from all the bad reviews I read. I was shocked how nice it was. The hotel is older. In fact, it was the first hotel in Maui and is listed as historical. Just think of all the famous people that stayed here.I cannot explain how happy we were with our room location, the view, and the quietness. The rooms are older looking, but our room 307 garden view was very clean. I was expecting the room to look like a dump, but was very nice. No dirt, clean beds and floors, very comfortable beds and extra pillows. We never saw any bugs or lizards like others claim. "

Nothing. Portions of the building were condemned, cockroaches, this hotel should be shut down. Portions of the building were truly condemned, "caution tape", staircases removed, walls missing. An engineering request form was presented to us at check in for any room repairs we may need during our one night stay (not a request for towels, soap, etc for repairs). Cockroaches. Well, I can chalk that up to Hawaii - big bugs aren't surprising, though I doubt there's any pest control program in place at this hotel. I'd suggest a refund of my money for this experience if you want to keep my business.

The staff was friendly and helpful. The hotel is in need of a renovation. The rooms and hotel itself are quite out dated and slightly run down. You get what you pay for. The room rates were cheaper in comparison to other hotels but it is probably due to the fact that the hotel needs a renovation. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Overall, the hotel was okay, but not in as good of condition as I would've expected.

The location of our room was wonderful, we were right on the beach. The grounds were not well maintained, and appeared to be in need of some updating. Upon check-in we were asked if we would like to upgrade to an ocean view room. We selected this option and were fortunate to be given the owner's suite. It was a wonderful room and we loved hearing the sounds of the ocean during the evening. We were disappointed at the state of the grounds. We were told there were tennis courts, but the supposed courts were being used for volleyball and not in good shape. There was supposed to be high speed internet available in the lobby, but this failed to work. If we had not been upgraded to a room on the opposite side of the street, I do not think we would have enjoyed our experience, but on the ocean site, it was great.

Location was great..we were few feet from the beach very relaxing they kept the room pretty clean and get daily service no complaint. THe only complaint the we had is the front desk service, we tried to check in around 1:30pm and she told us to comeback at 3:00pm to check in and there is no reason why we can't check in right there when we want to get a little rest and go to a dinner later...Other than that our stay was great and we had no problem. Not a friendly person to be at the hotel desk...

Excellent service and very friendly. Furniture, paint, etc show wear. Beachfront is also road front. Overall a nice place that needs some work. Peeling paint, sagging cushions on room furniture, and stained carpets and drapes need to be replaced. Replacing the windows with ones that shut properly would help with road noise at the beachfront rooms, which are sandwiched between the road and the beach. Staff was very friendly and helpful, and the grounds are a great playground. Not much nearby for food or entertainment, so plan on getting in the car. This is a great choice for those on a budget who don't mind a little deferred maintenance. If you expect shiny new and squeaky clean you will be disappointed, but you can still have a great time on Maui at the Maui LU.

The Aston Maui Lu Resort sits on a large, beautiful grassy lot across the street from the beach. The buildings are somewhat old and a bit run down. The door to the room was difficult to close and lock (lock and key type). The rooms are very spacious, but the bathroom very small. Wireless internet in the lobby only and no wired internet to the rooms. There are four 3-storied buildings of rooms. One is totally abandoned and rapidly deteriorating. What looks like the resort's dinning/conference room has been sold to a church, no other dining facilities are found on the property. The price is not terrible, but a bit much for what you get.

The hotel was OK for a budget option. Kihei is a nice location for those who are planning on traveling all over the island, with fairly easy access to everywhere from Ka'anapali to Haleakala. The rooms are dark, even with the curtains open during the day, and look due for a renovation. There also appear to be a number of unoccupied/unmaintained buildings on the property. The in-wall air conditioner was noisy when the compressor kicked in throughout the night. Wi-fi was only available at the front desk, but was free. There are a couple of "private" coves on the property which are nice for lounging when they're not occupied by locals fishing. Aston also gives a coupon book to guests which saved us at least $50 throughout the trip. Overall, I would recommend this hotel to budget-conscious travelers who aren't looking for all the amenities of a resort.

It was clean and the location was central. From the pictures we saw of the place before our arrival, it was located on the ocean and our room was not. Because it is rated a 2 star, we weren't expecting it to be new or up to date and it wasn't, but it was clean. From pictures we saw of the outside of the Aston Maui lug, it was shown to be on the ocean, and our room was not by the ocean.

The location and setting of the hotel was great. The rooms were in awful condition, very tattered and worn. The Maui Lu is fortunate to be centrally located near the waist" of Maui. Unfortunately, the hotel is in poor condition. Many of the buildings on the hotel grounds are condemned (boarded up, broken windows, etc). The central cluster of buildings are all open and OK. The pool was OK. Would recommend spending a little more for a nicer room in Kihei. This is certainly not a 2-star hotel, it barely qualifies as a 1-star hotel."

We had a fridge in our room so we can goto the local Safeway to buy our lunches (sandwiches etc.)to take to the beach. This resort is of old charm and dose need a little up grading however we understand its up for sale asis. The staff brought us a propane BBQ to use at no charge. We did have a friendly Gecko show up in our room x2 out of the 10 days we were there no biggy he was more scared than i was lol. good water pressure, great location to everything, perfect sunset, great for the price if you stay in the ocean front rooms. Beds and pillows were very comfortable with nice sheets. AC worked very well. Not bad for young honeymoon couples that want to spend more money on other things. Cant wait to go back! :)

I was very happy about the friendly staff, and the location of the hotel. I was close to everything. It was perfect for what I was looking for, low price with a great location, right on the beach. My room was only 30 footsteps to the private beach cove, and the view was breathtaking. What I received was better than the price I spent.

Great location, lots of parking, quiet, best of all, cheap! Pool water was not really clean. This hotel was perfect for my two young children and me. It had pretty much all that we needed plus a refrigerator. In addition, our room was in the building that is located right behind the lobby building so my laptop was able to receive the WiFi signal that is offered for free in the lobby. That was a great bonus. The pool was nice for my kids, but the water could have been cleaner. The pool is not suitable for non-swimmers as it does not have a large shallow area. It does, however, have a long first and second step where toddlers might be able to play in the water. There is lots of free parking and the parking lot is lighted very well. I was able to leave a kayak on my car at night with hardly any worry of theft because the only entrance/exit to the parking lot is past the lobby. Note for late sleepers: the hotel was undergoing renovation on one of its buildings and work started on weekdays at 7AM sharp. If that will be a problem for you, look elsewhere to stay.

The staff was very friendly and helpful. The hotel is old, run down and in serious need of some TLC. Although the staff was awesome and the location was perfect, the hotel is not even close to a "resort". It is old and in serious need of a renovation. It was probably a lovely place 20 years ago, but little has been done to keep it up.

We stayed 1 night at this hotel last week. The front desk staff was friendly and courteous, but the hotel is run down and the rooms very tired and worn. Before we booked, we read that the rooms had been updated in 2008, but we did not see any evidence of this. Some of the siding on the exterior of the building had fallen off and not repaired, and we could smell the musty, mildew odor of the building while standing outside of the room. The price is cheap for a reason. We would not recommend this hotel to anyone nor would we stay there again.

Definitely old, but more charm than the newer ones. Quiet due to off-road location. Everything needs upgrading, but then price would climb. No restaurant. If you are looking for luxury, go elsewhere, but for the price, it will always be my first choice. Large rooms, easy parking, away from traffic noise, lots of birds and flowers on the spacious grounds. Not modern, but perfectly adequate for anyone who would rather spend the money saved on other things like dining and recreation. The upper rooms in one building have balconies which are perfect for drying wet clothes and gear and the pool is usually peaceful.

There is not one nice thing I can say about the hotel! It reminded me of the Bates Motel It seemed abandoned; it had no restaurant nor was cafe, the closest public eatery 1 1/2 miles away. We walked and in route to eat, everything was vacation homes. The beach access across the street was also bare. Very scary! Rooms smelled like mildew, and sheets on bed looked as if they hadn't been changed in a while. The personnel said they were renovating, one building was obviously abandoned with broken windows. No one was keeping up the grounds, the only personnel seen was the person to check you in (1 person).

A good place to shower and sleep. Need repairs and renovation. This is a no thrill place for you to sleep and take shower. Our trip was for my son's swimming competition therefore the room serves its purpose. We leave early in the morning and return in the evening therefore it was not important for us to have a nice room. As far as the classification, this hotel is not a resort. Rooms need to be renovated (carpet old). Bath room tiles needs to be replaced.

Scary. Our room door looked to be broken into more than once. We were somewhat afraid to leave anything in the car or in the room. The sliding glass door did not lock, I had to put a chair in the track to feel safe enough to sleep. The ice maker was only one and far away. Again I did not feel very safe just getting some ice for a drink. I know that we will be visiting Hawaii in the near future but WE WILL NOT EVEN THINK OF STAYING HERE AGAIN.

It's sad that a hotel with a great ocean view and close to everything would end up not being reccommened by me because of the lack or detail to cleanliness. Our first night when we arrived it was raining and we draged mud in,four days later the mud was still there never sweeped or mopped even after we had request it. Also our room was not cleaned and the beds not made or the towels replaced (once),I had to go get towels just so we could shower. last thing the glassware and mugs provided were never cleaned, we used them the first day and were NEVER replaced our entire stay,we just ended up buying cups so we would know they were clean,it created alot of friction with my girlfriend and we did not enjoy our vacation as we should of!!! if only the simple basics were taken care of by the hotel.

Good value, excellent location, friendly staff, excellent ocean views. Tired rooms, no internet in room or public spaces, insufficient parking close to room. Hotel is a good value for a business traveler who is mainly looking for a fairly clean room, a comfortable bed and a shower. This is not a 4 star resort. Location is quiet and resort is nestled between mid level ocean front time shares. I would definitely recommend to others who need a home base from which to explore the rest of the island. The Maui lu is not a resort destination in and of itself.

My wife and I stayed at the Maui Lu for our honeymoon, and I have to say.... We absolutely loved it! We stayed in the oceanfront building 400, room 404. No other resort in all of Maui has a building as close to the ocean as this one is! We kept the windows open all the time and fell asleep and woke up to the sound of the ocean. We decided to stay on the bottom floor instead of the top and we are very glad we did. All we had to do was open the sliding glass door, walk about 20 feet, and jump in the ocean! I got up every morning to go for a swim in the private cove we had. Hardly anyone ever there, warm, clear water with a small coral garden about 100 yards out and still only about 4 feet of water! The cove also had a freshwater shower which came in real handy. If you want somthing alittle bigger to play on than the cove, there is a huge stretch of beach about 100 feet to the right of the cove. There was also a long grassy area covered with palm trees right outside our glass door which helped make sunsets amazing. From our room we had views of the harbor across the bay, the island of Lanai, and Molokini Crater. Our room was very clean when we got there and remained clean everyday as it was visited by room service who provided new glasses, towels, and vacumed daily. We also received a complimentery bottle of champange and bottles of water upon arriving at the hotel. The hotel is located on the far west side of Kihei, which in our opinion is the best town on the island ( yes we visited almost all of them and they are all very nice but Kihei is the best ). The hotel is secluded, but just a short drive away from shopping, restaurants, and some of the most amazing beaches we have ever seen. We visited the rest of the hotel one day, and even though we didnt go into the rooms, the grounds were very beautiful. Green grass, plants and palm trees everywhere you looked. The buildings are old looking on the outside but thats the point of the hotel.... To give you that old school

Good pool, grounds, and beach access. Maid service was poor. Older hotel at the start of the Kihei strip. It has beautiful grounds and swimming pool. The beach has easy access for either the hotels private area or the public beach, your choice. This is an older hotel that could use a little work on the windows, but over all was clean and comfy. The location is great for those wanting to have a central location to access the all parts of Maui. We stayed 4 nights with few problems. The up stairs neighbors could be heard jumping on the beds and one day the maid took all the towels (even the clean ones) leaving us with none. We had to make several phone calls to the front desk over several hours. Other wise the staff was friendly and very helpful.

Nice location in kihei. Room was unattractive. The grounds were nice, the room clean and sleep able but not attractive. Very worn room - like old student housing from my college days. Two beds were full sized, not queen and not very comfortable. Desk was very nice and helpful, but systems clearly slow and manual and "old school". While location and grounds and staff might push 2.5 stars, the room and bed was arguably 1 star in most parts of the country.

I have been to Maui several times. I don't go there to stay in my room all day. We just needed a clean and safe place to sleep at night and take a shower. The Maui Lu more than lived up to those expectations. First of all, the grounds are absolutely spectacular - very old world Hawaii. The staff went out of their way to be friendly and helpful. Yes, the rooms were older and a little run down but in no way were they dirty or unsafe. The beds were comfortable and clean and it was great to have the refrigerator in our room. The pool is beautiful if a little old school and it is kept sparkling clean every day. The little private beach cove is magnificent and the kids would go out and swim there every night. I cannot stress enough how beautiful and quiet the grounds are here and I cannot wait to get back. If you enjoy the noise, hustle, bustle and crowds of the fancy large resorts then this is not the place for you. If you ARE looking for beauty, quiet, charm and friendliness then go to the Maui Lu!

recently stayed here and was only there for a night. our bed was infested with these little bed buggers. we noticed them from the blood smears of our overnight attack. over two dozen were visible in sheets and between mattress. left the hotel instantly and was transfered to a sister hotel in lahaina... the maui kaanapali villas. we had stayed here for two nights, one of which we were joined by roaches. overall experience... maui trip killer. we are still dealing with the bug problem back home. strongly advise against travel plans here. according to hotel staff, the "resort" has been for sale for over ten years leaving the grounds and more importantly the rooms extremely unmaintained. one travel agent called it the roach motel because of all the issues that have come up over the past years. that title is more than fitting. do not stay.
