If you're already familiar with Vienna's Ringstrasse, see a different part of town when you stay at the Austria Trend Hotel Albatros. First-time visitors to Vienna who don't mind a bit of commuting will likewise have no problems catching the nearby tram for a short ride into the city centre. There's also nothing stopping you from taking a leisurely 30-minute walk there. For something to do within walking distance of the hotel, check out Freud Museum in the Berggasse, Palais Liechtenstein and the Strudlhofstiege stairway. There are 70 rooms at the Austria Trend Hotel Albatros, some with balcony, views of the garden courtyard or connecting doors (available upon request). En-suite bathrooms have either bathtub or shower. In the morning, round off your buffet breakfast with a cup of Viennese coffee or a glass of hot tea. We were greeted pleasantly at check-in by a gentleman and his puppy. The old building is quaint with its winding staircase entry, tall ornately carved ceilings and doors. The room was clean and breakfasts were good.

My friend and I liked the Albatross in Vienna. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The room was very clean and new and had a reasonably good shower especially for Europe. The hotel was off the beaten path which helped with noise but was not too far from public transit so we were able to ride most of the way via the trolley and then walk less than a 1/2 mile to the hotel. The public transport was then convenient to everything we wanted to see in the less-than-a-day in Vienna trip. The young lady at the front desk was very friendly and recommended how to get some food late at night when we arrived. She also gave us a map and circled a bunch of stuff for us and spoke really good English. The location was near some inexpensive places to eat and there was shopping but we did not do any of it (we're guys and we don't shop). The miracle was that we found the hotel late the night before and for a reasonable price especially since the Euro 2008 soccer championship was going on. The air conditioning did not do much but in all the hotels we staying in including one four star and one five star, that was the case.

Our arrival was a total mess. The night audit couldn't find our prepaid reservation, we had to pay twice for the room. The room was supposed to have 2 single bed, but instead we got one double bed. We laughed about it and within 5 minutes our phone rang and we were told that we are being too loud! The room was very clean, but a lot smaller that I expected. However, on morning the lady at the reception was very kind, she had found our reservation and gave back the double payment. I'd say it a 2** star hotel, not 4****.
