The AVIA in Savannah is a beautiful hotel located in a beautiful section of town. The interior (lobby and hallways) is attractively decorated in muted, earthy tones and dramatically lit. Though we didn't test them very hard, the cheerful and attentive staff seemed eager to meet our needs, whatever they may be. Our standard room was perhaps a little small but the amenities were outstanding. What waited for us in the room? How about real wine glasses and a corkscrew, plush towels, luxurious linens on the bed, a soft and comfortable robe, and a chaise lounge next to the window. The bathroom was spotless (of course) and featured a walk-in shower. When we received our bill at the end of the stay, there was a charge on there for use of the valet parking, a service we hadn't used. When I brought this to their attention at check-out, the clerk immediately apologized and said she would remove the charge. No muss, no fuss. Anyone can make a mistake, what matters is how it is handled. The AVIA could not have had a more positive response. I would be delighted to stay there again, anytime.

At check-in we were greeted by many pleasant and helpful employees from the valet to the bellhop that assisted us to our room. Staying at a $*+ a night hotel is not the norm for me but I did not feel out of place. There was no snobbish air about the hotel. The room was very clean and presented well. The beds were remarkably comfortable with plenty of pillows that were also very comfortable not flat. We could not hear the familiar closing of other guest’s doors or the random conversations in the halls or the rooms of others. The hotel is within 100 yards of the market and just feet from one of the best steakhouses ever, Ruth's Chris is almost in the lobby. It actually is just around the corner. Plenty of dining and drinking is very close by. The $20 valet with in and out service is well worth the price, though you really do not need your car to get to any of the sights. The pool area is very nice, several seating areas some with cover from the blazing GA. sun. You must have a room key to activate the elivator and the pool is on the second floor so this lends to a very secure setting.

Big screen TV. Loud AC. The staff was all quite friendly and helpful. The room was clean, but small. We much preferred the cheaper, bigger, and more comfortable Hilton Garden Inn in Beaufort we stayed in the nights before the Avia. There was wired internet access, but no wire immediately available. There was no space for the laptop to speak of, except of course one's lap. The AC was pretty loud when it kicked on, and we could get a decent comfortable temperature, it was either too cold or uncomfortably warm. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was fairly roomy and always clean. The TV was nice and large, and the channel selection was good. The mini bar was ample, but we'd rather have had the space in the fridge for our own water. Parking was outrageous for us. Overall, the room was too cramped for what we thought was 4-star.
