This hotel was ok as a base to the local area. The main problem is that as Durham is not a full on tourist area finding somewhere for breakfast was a bit of a nightmare. When staying in the hotel you do have access to the gym next door which has a cafe. However we did not rate the breakfast and so set out to seek alternatives. The room was clean and comfortable. And there was plenty of parking spaces. The hotel was in easy reach of Durham centre and ranged between £6 and £7.50 in a taxi.

Mostly good although was disappointed on the last day not to have our room cleaned. We told the cleaner that we would be 5 minutes but she just left and did not return later. Not impressed. Food expensive and poor quality.

What a gem of a hotel! Modern and bright rooms. Not too far from centre of Durham, about £6 in a taxi, but because we were tired we ate in the health club. Ok, Gordan Ramsey it's not, but it was hot, edible and good value for money. Only downside was that the children were only allowed in the pool at certain times, which we weren't advised of when booking, but once we new this we were able to work around it.

2 grandparents+1child---1 night stayHotel was fine, no food/bar in hotel--both available at adjacent health club. Free admittance and use of facilities during stay. Really enjoyed swimming and suana. Swimming pool quite good size. Food seemed more of snack variety. Children under 8 allowed in pool 12.00 - 7.00pm. This prevented us using pool on day of departure as 12.00 is end of free use time on day of departure. This was really our only negative comment.

The hotel is reasonably priced, it is practical, nothing fancy but serves the purpose. The rooms are clean and comfortable and staff are helpful. Only negative is that the pub is a bit of a walk away !

The hotel was very easy to find, clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The bedroom was well equiped and plenty of room for the 3 of us. We had full use of the leisure club which was excellent, food was available in the leisure club, we only had breakfast which was very nice and reasonably priced.

Hotel clean and tidy, rooms a decent size and staff and friendly and helpful. Only a short taxi ride into Durham city centre. There was 6 of us and taxi cost under £10. We had a great time and would definitely go back. Couldn't really comment on the gym though as I didn't use it, only had a drink in the bar and a sandwich before we checked out.

Overall pretty goodArrived just after earliest check in, first car in car park etc so was dealt with promptly. Only booked the night before via laterooms so aprehensive booking would not have been made - was pleasantly suprised as there were no problems there. Room good overall. As other people have stated, the double bed appeared to be 2 singles pushed together with a double mattress on top. Personally the mattress was too soft and because of the join it did sink in the middle. Noise was minimal desite being next to A1 and a local road (windows kept shut though overnight). Room clean apart from under furniture and behind door (looks like those had been hoovered week before, but not prior to my stay). Towels provided, as are tea/coffee facilitiesFree froadband connection reasonable (standard home speed really, but once other guests started using it the speed reduced a lot), uses standard network cable/RJ45 so dont forget one! *** For info of Laterooms.com especially, the TV was plenty big enough etc, however there are no satellite channels. You had the 5 standard channels, plus Sky News with a blank picture and one or 2 other channels, so certainly not even Freeview. A laptop with a TV tuner and their aerial cable soon solved that though! There is also no air conditioning, it is a standard \"open window or turn the wall heater on\" room! ***Checkout was painless - handed room keys in and left, as they already have your card details. Would stay again for same price or lower, but would not pay more. Overall a good place to stay and would use them again.

family friendly good valueWe were impressed by the comforts of the room along with the cleanliness and friendliness of the staff. I have paid a lot more money to stay in superior hotels and have felt ripped off with the level of cleanliness and state of the room. I could not find fault with this hotel and would definitely use again. We were 2 families ranging from age 6 to 52 and were all impressed -

Excellent value for money will be returning in the near futureWell presented clean and modern, staff were friendly and helpful. Nice little extra touches like good quality branded soaps and shower gel. Although close to major road networks and nearby shopping we found it quiet and not too busy. Good place for famillies. Excellent facilities next door in the gym with swimming pool etc. Food available and a good standard and not ridiculous prices. Very, very pleased with theoverall experience and will be returning again and again.

A great hotel for a good price. The health club was busy with members so we didn't use it a lot, and the bed was two singles pushed together, so not really comfortable. But great value for money.

Limited MenuDunc's hotel and spa facilities were OK, but the food / menu was extremely limited, and I was left feeling a bit hungry. Made up for that by having extra Guinness, and watching Man U get mullered by Barca, so the lack of food quality and quantity was soon forgotten!!

Reception open 1am when we arrived, which was good. Disappointed that kettle supplies included no tea, nor milk on the second day. Unable to use the health club facilities because we had a 10-year-old, who wasn't allowed in to the pool before midday. We were very disappointed about that.

The hotel was perfectly functional and well suited to my needs. It is comparable to the Travel Inn type hotels I usually use, but has the added advantage of the health club facilities. Breakfast at the health club was well priced, but I didn't use the facility as I had a breakfast meeting.

Please make it obvious that it is WIRED broadband and therefore you must take your your router cable with you other wise it will cost you £5 to purchase one via the vending machine, please not they do NOT have any spares unlike Darlington..so don't think you will get broadband for free as advertised because it won't happen !! but the accomodation is nice,, the food in the adjoining health club is absolutely dire !! and I would just like to point out that unlike most people on here I do not have high expectations and this was pants !

Arrived late afternoon and was issued with a key card for an occupied room. Went to reception and had key card changed only to find next room was occupied with occupant present! Embarrassing. Finally got into an unoccupied room after 20 mins or more of messing around. Room had one window that had perhaps been recently fixed and put back on the wrong way around - so handle to shut was on outside and impossible to close! Toilet had a bad drains smell. Next door to hotel is a health club, had breakfast which was so appalling I sent it back - first time in years of staying in all sorts of hotels all over the world I have ever had cause to do that. The manager kindly refunded the cost of the breakfast. I would have left the hotel for any other nearby had there been one with in walking distance - again the first time I have felt like that about anywhere I've stayed in years and years both basic and luxury and anything in between. Reception staff tried to help, were friendly enough, but were inexperienced or temporary staff only so had little idea how to deal with anything beyond a smooth visit which given the comedy nature of my visit must be a rarity.

Reading previous reviews we were all looking forward to a great 3 night stay in Durham. In fact the shower rooms in either would easily beat this one. As far as the health centre goes it was very good so long as you take your rackets with you. They say you can hire rackets there. When I tried to hire two squash rackets I was presented with one badmington & one broken squash racket. We never got to play squash. The food was ok but it was very clear that the staff prefered serving pints of milk to the health club members than prepairing food for hotel users. The hoel room was summed up when one of my guests was hit in the face with the centre of the shower head. This was caused by water pressure and a cheap shower head. He finished off the break using another guests shower room. On the second day we ran out of loo paper, had to request this from reception, not the sort of thing I expect to have to do when taking a holiday break. I would happily have forfit the swimming and saved myself money.

2 star!! You must be kidding!! Great kingsize bed, nice big LCD on the wall, spacious power shower that is a power shower and lovely and clean! The staff are on a level to many 4 star hotels although I did feel some customers where expecting a 5 star hotel? strange? This hotel is both basic and brilliant! On a saturday night it can get some younger guests but each time ive stopped here that seems to decrease and the hotel staff sort out any noise or problems immediately. You have use of the next door swimming pool, Sauna, Spa and Steam room which is great and the Cafe bar is good for simple food and very affordable.I have stopped here, alone, as a couple and with my children and I will stop here again. A basic simple great all-rounder...

excellent hotelthe hotel is very similar to a travel lodge but better, the room was very clean and tidy, the bed massive and very comfortble. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The health club facilities were very good and the bar bright and inviting. This hotel was well worth the £50 paid and I would recommend it to anyone.
