Weekend stay at Hotel Barcelona Centrewe arrived at 1.30am, and checked in with no problem. I had booked a double room but there were 2 twin beds, we could not be bothered to go back to reception to change rooms since it was so late. The only criticism I have is that breakfast is not included in the price, and as we did not know this, we ended up having a coffee and 2 bits of toast, and were charged EUR 34 !!!!! (at current exchange rates, that is GBP 34 !) I complained about this when checking out, and they dropped this charge, which I thought was very decent of them, and I would go back, but would have breakfast at one of the many cafes located very close to the hotel. Also, the hot whirlpool on the roof terrace was awesome!!!

Great, clean, modern hotel. Staff were friendly and helpful. Location for tourism is very good - just a short stroll from the main 'drag' of La Ramblas. Secure Car parking on site at 22 Euros a day is a bit steep, but very safe. Can't comment on the food as we didn't eat there. There are loads of Tapas bars etc within easy strolling distance. Try CHIPIRONES - deep fried baby squid - yum. Room was spacious, well equipped and seemed to be of a higher rating than the hotel's own star rating. Roof jacuzzi is very cool - makes you feel like a millionaire! Perhaps not the best hotel for small children, but great for adult tourists and just perfect for a 'dirty weekend' break. Metro tickets are cheap and the service is good. Don't bother with Montserrat unless you are excited by expensive to visit monasteries - cable car / train up is quite pretty, though. DO hire a car and go a little up the coast - life is slower and much cheaper once you get away from the beautifel but busy barcelona. The French border is only 1 hour away up the cheap, modern motorway - the food on the 'other side' is cheaper and much better . Argeles Plage is well worth visiting - very chic and a great place for all the family.

Very good base for seeing the cityWe choose this hotel as a functional base from which to view the city, and it served us well. Its close to both Casa Mila and Casa Batllo, with all other sights within walking distance. Some are obviously a bit of a distance, but taxis are fairly cheap if you feel you can not face walking home. Based on the comments of another traveller we asked for a room on the 5th floor as it is on a busy road, and to be honest we really weren't bothered by any road noise at all. It does however have road works right outside the door at present, but having said that they were not working over the weekend. The hotel is both clean and modern, but there were a few little things that let it down, such as blown bulbs, & missing lamps shades, however please do not let that put you off as the room was clean and the staff were helpful.
