General Description

Across the small threshold at BandB Dorsoduro 461, the ancient wooden beam adds to a familiar, warm space, a welcoming refuge in one of the most beautiful and charming areas in Venice, close to important art exhibitions such as the Guggenheim Collection, the Gallerie dell'Accademia and the new Punta della Dogana Museum, designed by architect Tadao Ando. The two rooms at BedandBreakfast Dorsoduro 461, as well as an intimate common area with a well-lit reading room, emanate Venetian charm: its books, which are placed all around, its eighteenth and nineteenth century furniture, paintings, designer lamps and unique antique objects are evidence of BandB Dorsoduro 461's specialty as a refined residence. In Dorsoduro, Peggy Guggenheim took Palazzo Venier dei Leoni as her own personal Venetian residence and kept her private collection there. Today it is the home of the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, one of the most important art museums in the world, which showcases European and American art from the first half of the twentieth century. You only need to take a few steps to immerse yourself in beautiful Venetian art: close to BandB Dorsoduro 461, at the foot of the nineteenth century Accademia Bridge, you can visit the magnificent collection of paintings by the Venetian school in the Gallerie dell'Accademia, which spans from the Byzantine medieval period to the Renaissance, Baroque and Rococò.What to do around Venice:Have dinner at the Zattere (rafts) along the Grand Canal on a summer evening or admire the view of St. Mark's Basin and S. Giorgo Island from the Punta della Dogana, the old customs checkpoint. The Fondamenta delle Zattere, a bank built in the 1500s to unload logs coming from the forests of Cadore via special platforms, offers a scenic stroll. Facing the Island of Giudecca and the Palladian Church of the Redeemer, it is lined with cafes, pizzerias, restaurants and ice cream parlors. At the fork between the Grand Canal and the Giudecca Canal at the Dogana da Mar (the former customs house), the imposing Basilica of Santa Maria della Salute stands out. Built as a sign of thanks for the end of the plague in 1630, this Baroque church is the star of the Festa della Salute (Feast of Good Health), a procession in which pilgrims cross a picturesque votive bridge to reach the church. The Chiesa Anglicana di S.Giorgio (St. George's Anglican Church), in Campo S.Vio, holds religious services in English, organizes weddings and baptisms and hosts impressive concerts. An authentic BandB in Venice with two double rooms for sleep and relaxation, with poetic lagoon views and romantic walks on the Zattere along the Giudecca Canal.Equipped with private bathrooms, Wi-Fi internet, a kettle and breakfast in the room provided by the Bed and Breakfast, the comfortable rooms at BandB Dorsoduro 461 are a fascinating blend of classic Venetian style and the informal air of home. From the antique furniture of the 1700s and 1800s to the colorful Kartell lamp, everything contributes to an atmosphere of charm and serene hospitality. There are plenty of opportunities to satisfy your hunger for culture or the desire for a good aperitif near BandB Dorsoduro 461. The Libreria Toletta is a historical Venetian site for bookworms, and many Venetians, visitors and students from the nearby Ca' Foscari University traditionally frequent Campo Santa Margherita. This characteristic square is home to unusual shops, tasty bakeries, popular pubs and cafes, as well as the interesting fish and herb markets...

lovely B and B in middle of DorsoduraThe only thing we would have preferred was a real double bed, the one on our room was in fact two...that is two singles pushed together! Breakfast was perfunctory, but there.I'd advise bringing milk if you prefer your tea white. The setting is beautiful, the owner helpful and value for money (considering Venice prices) was good.

Fab accommodation! We stayed in 1 of 2 rooms in a house of that the owner also lived in, it was great to have a resident that knew where to visit, eat and drink whhat ever your budget. For us this was an ideal location (Dorsoduro) as you are able to experience the least touristy side of the island. it is in easy walking distance (or water bus ride) to the main attractions i.e san marco. Room was really nice and decorated in a typical Venetian style. Drinks facilities and breakfast provided (nothing spectacular but adequate). Nothing was too much trouble and Francesco always on hand if you needed anything. Highly recommended.

Fantastic located , in a peaceful, relaxing and more genuine area of Venice, away from touristic overcrowded areas but still very close to key sightseeing places. We enjoyed the room which is furnished with extreme care for all details, great taste, fantastic mix of antiques and modern design. The owners are friendly, easygoing and helpful. We recommend it. The only note, do not expect a full breakfast.
