General Description

This historic Gettysburg hotel offers superior service in a charming and ideal setting; rich with history and hospitable ambiance. The Historic Best Western Gettysburg Hotel has a tradition of hospitality that dates to 1797, when James Scott first opened his tavern. In the summer of 1863, the hotel played witness to one of the seminal events in American history during a pivotal three-day Civil War battle. President Lincoln honed the immortal words of his Gettysburg Address at the Wills House, just steps away from the hotel. Nearly a century later, the hotel served as President Dwight Eisenhower's national operations center while he recuperated from a heart attack at his nearby farm. A victim of post-war changes in America's traveling habits, the Gettysburg Hotel closed its doors in 1964. After a careful and detailed restoration, the Historic Best Western Gettysburg Hotel once again welcomes guests to share its rich legacy. Each well-appointed room at the Gettysburg Hotel is designed with today's traveler in mind coming equipped with high-speed Internet and all the right amenities to make for a comfortable stay. This full-service hotel offers in-room dining, turn down service. The hotel also offers a beautiful ballroom for special events or occasions taking place in the Gettysburg area. The hotel's proximity to Washington DC, Baltimore and Hershey make it an ideal spot for traveling to a variety of historic and places of interest including the area's unique antique shops and the popular Boyd's Bear Country. Make it a truly memorable vacation; reserve a room online today at this historic Gettysburg hotel!

The location was terrific. Very convenient! The hotel does not appear to be clean or well kept. While the location was great, right in the middle of everything, the hotel did not appear clean. There was mold in the bathroom and the wallpaper in the hotel room, the bathroom and the public halls was peeling off. The front desk staff was very friendly and efficient, but other staff were rude, pushed passed guests to get on the elevator and while carting food in the hallway from the kitchen to other areas in the hotel.

didn't think the room was worth what the hotel charged for it, but it is in a tourist town. the hotel was very clean and staff friendly, but nothing outstanding about it compared to other hotels in the area...there was a jacuzzi tub in our room, but it was no bigger than a bath tub with a couple jets. again, not worth the extra money to us. there was no continental breakfast like other hotels of the same or cheaper rates in the immediate area. also, we weren't aware of the parking fee of $8.....there was parking on the street that was perfectly legal, yet the hotel staff INSISTED that we must park in their garage or we would be towed. come to find out, it was a lie, because we could've parked anywhere on the street and been fine! you don't even have to plug the meters after 8pm, which it was when we arrived!!

5th trip to Gettysburg, 1st time here. Great location for going to the antique shops or starting your tour of the battlefield. Nice clean rooms, nice staff. Only complaint is we couldn't get in the restaurant, thought as a hotel guest they might hold a couple tables back. Went to Farnsworth House instead and had a great meal.

My husband and I stayed in this hotel on our wedding night. We paid well over $200 for our room which was promised to be 'the best'. Well, we were seriously disappointed. The wet bar was nothing more than an empty mini fridge and the jacuzzi was a normal sized bathtub with a few water jets and a clogged drain. The side panels of the tub were even falling off! We had one window in our room that was extremely narrow and looked out onto a few heating ducts and vents. Our room was also located above one of the conference areas and that night another couple was having their wedding reception in that room. So much for romance!! We were kept awake well past midnight listening to the heavy bass of rap music and people partying. We would never ever recommend this hotel to anyone!

Of the many times I visit Gettysburg every year, we always seem to come back here. The place is clean, the building beautiful, and the staff very friendly. I usually come to town with a group of friends and sometimes we rent rooms within the hotel, and sometimes we rent a room in the guesthouse so more of us can fit into a single room and we have a small kitchen. They are always very accomodating and friendly.

I took my children for their first trip to Gettysburg this weekend and they thought the guest house was the best place they've ever stayed. My youngest daughter got sick overnight, and we had to go to the front desk for more sheets. They were awesome about it. They even said they hope she feels better.

The worst thing I've ever experienced with this hotel is that they are usually not ready if you show up at 3, which is check in time. But if you show up around 5, there is usually no problem. Yes, parking has a fee, if you don't take a few minutes to go to the desk and ask them to validate your ticket. They are always friendly and do it with a smile, even at 3AM. I think the place is an excellent value for the money you pay.

No, it's not a 5 star resort, but you're not paying those prices, either. The restaurant and the tavern both have excellent food, and boy can they make a martini. And while you must be in the lobby of the hotel to use Wi-Fi, and not in the atrium, it still works. I'll stay here every time I come to town, whether with family, friends, or on business. I recommend it to everyone.

Great location, good hotel. Lack of knowledge of the staff. The hotel was more than we expected. Excellent rooms. The staff was lacking knowledge of the area.
