General Description

Since the 1878 the Hotel Massimo D'Azeglio has welcomed guests into a building that has been able to hold onto its late nineteenth century atmosphere and style. An important collection of prints and paintings representing those people who were so important during the Risorgimento (the Italian unification movement) hang in the lobby, bar and restaurant. Its centrally located position, near the Termini Railway Station, and Its proximity to the subway station enables you to move around the city easily, and the direct airport train, the Leonardo da Vinci Fiumicino airport, is available .The hotel's 197 elegantly decorated rooms are distributed on 5 floors.. Hotel Massimo D'Azeglio also has a restaurant and a well-known tavern,La Cantina, that has an important collection of wines and which can also be reserved for private dinners. The inspiration for the decoration of the 197 rooms at Hotel Massimo D'Azeglio on five floors, is from the baroque style of the Piedmont region. The rooms have recently been renovated to offer an even higher level of comfort. The oak furniture, hardwood floors and paneling, high ceilings and large windows all contribute to the elegant, late nineteenth century atmosphere. A keen sense of tradition is one of the hallmarks characterizing each of the rooms of Hotel Massimo D'Azeglio, along with an attempt to pay special attention to every detail.

"Overall this was a very decent hotel. It was clean and most of the staff was. There is also a nice, but pricey, restaurant in the hotel. The hotel is in a great location, walking distance of Termini. There were a few things I did not like. First was the small room. I guess the small room is typical of Europe. The Bed was too small for me; I'm 6ft 2in, could have used a queen or king. The complimentary breakfast was not appealing at all. I wouldn't mind staying here again but would look for a bigger bed first."

This hotel is a block from the Termini rail station, which is the hub of all transit in the city regardless of modality. This is a clean, business class hotel, but not 4 star. Would stay here again.

"By all standards for hotels in Europe, this one was great! The room was large, clean, nicely appointed and the bed linens were crisply pressed each day. We definitely will return to the Bettoja Hotel Massimo D Azeglio."

Would recommend this hotel to any traveler to Roma. Close to the train station, attentive staff, comfortable room and excellent restaurant. The only downside is the small breakfast with so many guests and tables it was impossible to move and enjoy the breakfast. There is an option to open an adjoining room but this was done on only one morning.

Nice convenient hotel 2 blocks from Termini station. You can walk to all the places to see or take the subway. Extremely friendly and helpful english speaking staff. Could pay a little more attention to details in rooms. Very comfortable beds. Request a room on the courtyard side to be away from the traffic of Via Cavour. Room price includes breakfat and they'll deliver it to your room for just 3 euros; anything else in room service is outrageously priced. Try the restaurant at least once.

We chose Bettoja Massimo d'Azeglio based on previous online travel website reviews and so knew what to expect. This is an older hotel than its "sister" hotel the Mediterrano across the street, but we wanted more of an old world experience. The rooms are spacious and pleasantly furnished, but there are three twin beds per room and they are fairly firm. Inner rooms are definitely more quiet than the outer rooms overlooking the street. Breakfast (which was included) was basic. They included complementary toiletries in the rooms and the staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful. When we mentioned that we wanted a special dining experience, the desk clerk arranged reservations at the Mediterrano's rooftop restaurant for us-wonderful food and splendid view. The main appeal is that the hotel is only two blocks from the Metro station and within walking distance of many of the fountains and Colosseum.

The staff were friendly and helpful. More like an upper 3-star vs a 4-star.

My only complaint is the size of the room. I had a triple room which consisted of a regular size room with 2 twin beds pushed together in the middle and another twin bed in front of the window. This left little room for our 6 suitcases, let alone room to move around. However, the room was clean, the beds were comfortable, and the staff was friendly. Breakfast was decent for hotel food, assorted pastries & bread, cereal, eggs, and various coffee drinks. It is in an excellent location. Just 1 block from central station, so you can get anywhere quick. If you're up for it, it's only about a 15 minute walk to the colleseum.

We picked this hotel based on previous reviews and location and were not disappointed. The location is excellent very close to the train/bus/metro station. We took the express train from the airport and walked the two blocks to the hotel. We bought a week Metro pass and this made going anywhere in Rome and a side trip to Florence very easy. The staff was friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean and large by European standards. The breakfast was generous. Our room was on the third floor and faced a street but we did not have a problem with noise. The hotel is old but we were looking for an "Italian" experience. There is a nice lobby with a bar if one wants to relax at the end of the day. There was a desktop computer with internet access in the lobey for a small price. The only complain was that the mattress was firm. We would definately stay there again.

We had a wonderful stay that exceeded our expectations. Somewhat concerned about reviews regarding safety and proximity to Tirmini, nothing to worry about. We walked to Trevi Fountain the first night after a lovely dinner in the hotel dining room. Breakfasts were also great and very filling. Massimo at the front desk was amazingly helpful, we had some problems with our tickets to Florence from the agency we booked with and he went above and beyond what would be expected to help us out. I would absolutely stay in this hotel again. Perfect location for seeing all the sights in Rome.

I stayed in a single room on the first floor - although it faced via Cavour, there were shutters to block out the light. The room was a reasonable size, so I could move around without bumping into the furniture. It was clean and attractive. The bathroom was also roomy and pleasant. I appreciated the full shower (instead of the half shower in other hotels). I really liked the thoughtful touch of a pull out clothes line so I could wash and dry some of my blouses. The staff was very helpful in providing extra towels as requested, showing me how the phone worked, etc. I needed to fax a form to another hotel (where I'd left something) and the front desk staff sent the fax out for me at no charge. There is internet access in a small room near the front desk for a reasonable per minute charge. The public rooms are charming and comfortable; the breakfast buffet was bountiful and the food excellent. The location is great -- basically a block from the Rome train station and hub for most of the bus systems. The train station is a good source for ATM machines, pharmacies, money exchange, so the hotel's location is quite convenient. I highly recommend this place and intend to stay there again when I visit Rome.
