Very rude front desk staff. Had to wait for the receptionist to finish a phone conversation and ask to be checked in. No acknowledgment what so ever. Very poor customer service. After a long wait for the shuttle and then walking to the hotel, had to wait for the receptionist to finish her phone conversation. She did not even acknowledge my presence. Had to sit down at the front lobby and ask to be checked in before she picked up the phone for another phone call. Clean rooms, convenient 5 minute walk from the hotel- don't count on the shuttle. I had to call and wait and the shuttle never showed up better to walk.

This hotel was only 2 minutes from NYC taking the PATH subway and definetly worth the money. A great trendy district away from the hustle and bustle of NYC and still walking distance to malls, restaurants, and a supermarket, in case you want to take advantage of the hotel fridge and stove to eat one. The staff was pleasant and room was very roomy and comfortable. Definetly recommend this hotel and will stay again.

My friend and I went to NYC for our birthday's. We did not want to drive into NYC, so I found this hotel through a search while I was at a holiday inn. I got a great rate because I am a government employee, (saved about $50-70.00 per night).

The hotel is very easy to get to once you get through the crazy interchange from the NJ turnpike (head towards the holland tunnel if coming in from the south). The hotel was very secure, (make sure you have your room key or token, or you can't get your car out of the lot)
and the front lobby doors lock around 11 pm (need room key). There are 2 metro stops and a ferry near the hotel.

The staff wasn't very helpful explaining how to get to the PATH (head right out of main entrance) walk to waterfront and go right). They forgot to mention that the Path and Subway runs on weekend schedules, so where you get on, is not the same place you get off to get back. (after a 2 hour nightmare between the subway and PATH, we took a cab to the hotel from Hoboken)

The hotel could use more sound proof windows, I was woke up by the local train and by a screaming cancer walk sponsor at 6:30 am.

Overall, the hotel was clean and the staff were nice. They offer a great cubby cupboard for snacks, bare essential, coffee etc. for great prices. Fitness center was nice, and there are places to eat and shop around hotel. Oh the rooms have a fridge, stove & microwave & you can grill outside!

Could have offered a free continential breakfast, but worth it all the same!

I got the cheaper of the two options available at the time, and it was much better than I anticipated. The room was slightly large for the average hotel room and included a small kitchen with refrigerator/freezer, stovetop, microwave oven, sink, dishwasher, toaster, and dishes/silverware for a couple people. There is a food store within walking distance too (about one mile away, perhaps a bit less). The room was quiet. The front desk was always staffed and seemed to have good security. The room also had a VCR/DVD combo, though we didn't use it. The bathroom was spacious and clean.

On the negative side, as far as I can tell no housekeeper stepped into our room during our 3 night/2 day stay. However, they supplied extra towels when we asked.

The location is in a seemingly upscale neighborhood, about 1 - 1.5 mile from the PATH train leading into Manhattan. I was comfortable walking the distance with my 13 year old daughter at night. There is also a nearby light rail train stop that can get you to/from the PATH train with almost no walking, but it seems silly to pay whatever the price was to avoid walking a mile. Last comment on location, there is also a shopping mall nearby and a couple restaurants within walking distance (a chinese place near the PATH station and a Chilis in the direction of the shopping mall).

Not sure why people like the "view" - there's buildings between it and the waterfront.

To summarize, this place is within easy distance of Manhattan (the PATH costs $1.50 per person, each trip), in a safe area. The hotel is quiet and comfortable with a kitchenette if you're looking to save a bit of money on food.

They were very accommodating to our needs. Nothing. When we arrived, we asked for an upgrade to the room and they had no problem doing that. When we checked out we wanted to spend the day in New York City and they allowed us to keep our car in their parking lot until we left. Had a great experience Would definitely stay there again.

The staff was very friendly, helpful with directions to our destinations. and answered any questions we had. Offhand I can't think of anything. This was my first time in NJ and NYC so I knew nothing about getting around. The hotel staff gave us very good directions. It was convenient to the PATH (subway system to NYC) and the Light Rail (street car) system. Location - very nice, clean and safe neighborhood. A good price for clean and comfortable suite.

Nothing. Terrible hotel room! Rude and unhelpful staff! No ethics of business! This hotel is one of the most terrible hotels I stayed in. Hotel staff was not friendly at all. Bathroom tub did not drain. When I came back to hotel in evening after spending long day in NYC. I found that bath tub has drainage block problem and there was no way I could have taken bath in there. When I contacted hotel staff about this problem they told me that they will get back to me in 10 minutes. I called them again after about 20 minutes. Then they again said same thing. After about an hour I went down to lobby and they told me that they can not help me with this. They told me to fix the bath tub drain problem myself! Finally they gave me a key to broken room where I and my wife had to take all my towels and other cloths and take bath and come back to my room again. Till this point it was bad but it even went worse. When I asked them that they did not have this room ready, they can not charge me full room rent. In lobby one staff (Clair) told me that they are going to give me 2000 Candlewood priority club points which are worth about $400. This was total lie and deceiving. In fact they give that many points anyway for signing up. I will never ever stay in candlewood suits again. They have no ethics. Staff is rude and hotel room does not have proper services.

This hotel sits right next to the Holland Tunnel and provides easy access to Manhattan; parking is free and aplenty, which is rare in the NYC area; a short hop to the TGIF (great for kids famished from the long drive) and some fine dining around, makes this hotel a good option for travelers who do not mind being across the river while leaving plenty of moolah in your pocket, nice clean suites with room for 4, a steal.

We had two rooms at the hotel. Both rooms were more than satifactory. The beds were as comfotable as any hotel I have ever stayed at. The sheets were soft. the rooms were both very clean. The hotel staff at the desk were very corteous and helpful. Free parking was a big plus and the location of the hotel made other trips we made easy to navigate.

Great location for travel to New York City. Within waling distance to the PATH trains that go into the World Trade Center. Great location if you are traveling to nyc. Very close to path trains. This hotel did offer a 1 mile radius shuttle to surrounding areas, but we felt very safe walking to local restaurants and the huge mall that were all within walking distance. We loved that this hotel was very clean and offered free parking.

Close to path station. No rooms with double beds. I chose jersey city, because it has a limited number of new suite style hotels. I traveled with 2 friends. We are all in our 30-40's and did not want to share a bed. Most suite rooms have 2 doubles and a sofa. The doubletree in no does, but candlewood did not! We had to go purchase two twin blow-up mattresses to sleep on.

Nothing. Everything. This hotel was the worst I have ever stayed in. The staff was horrible and would not work with us and actually argued with us. First they gave us a smoking room and we were under the impression we were getting two beds. When we got to our room it was small and only one full size bed. We went downstairs and asked for a different room they refused and said that I booked a smoking room which I did not.

Friendly staff, secure parking, clean rooms; if only the air conditioners did not make God's own racket!! (It is my second stay.) PATH is 4 blocks away. WARNING: If driving, get a map and take truck 1-9 and Communipaw Ave. into Jersey City, otherwise you will get hung up (maybe badly) in the Holland Tunnel traffic.

24-hour convenience store in lobby, charged to room. Very rough and scratchy towels, albeit clean. Great amenities for a long weekend stay (fridge, kitchenette, microwave, desk), friendly staff. Location is relatively convenient, roughly 6 blocks to Pavonia PATH, though the walk was along a main road through a business area, so less foot population. But overall would definitely consider staying here again in the future.

Located somewhat in city's re-development area, the hotel is surrounded with new office buildings, a shopping mall and condo towers, some still under construction. Only one block walk to the Hudson river to enjoy lower Manhattan view from its board walk if weather permits. Unfortunately no coffee shops around open for Sunday morning breakfast. Twenty or so minutes walk on boardwalk will take you to the nearest Sturbucks. You can drive there but hard to find street parking. The hotel offers safe outdoor self free parking with your room key card access. We stayed in studio suite which provides a complete kitchenet well equiped even with electric stove, dishwasher and full size frige with auto ice maker. They also supplied cooking pots, plates and other utensils. Shower water temperature was not consistant and it required frequent adjustment. Fan coil unit was very noisy and so was the full size refrigerator. If you are too sensitive to noise, you may be woken up whole night. Only five minutes drive to Holland tunnel, very convenient to lower Manhattan, although Hotel is not too easy to find.

Good location, easy to get to NYC Thin walls; room was above light-rail line Candlewood Suites is a nice alternative to staying in NYC...much more economical than city hotels, plus if you drive there is safe, free parking. Very convenient to the city thru the Path station 2 blocks away. Place is a bit noisy, though, with thin walls and our room was right above the light-rail line. However, I would stay there again. Kitchenette in the room is a bonus, and the neighborhood is very quiet and safe at night, with a great view of the Manhattan skyline.

The well stocked Cupboard which worked on an honor system. Lack of public transportation information - timetables, prices and ticket options. The staff were always friendly and helpful, even if they couldn't understand our accents. The rooms have up to date furnishings - only a queen size bed in one bedroom suite. However, this was perfectly adequate for a family of 3 to explore the area for a short stay. 15 minutes walk from either PATH stations to transport into NYC. We found very few restaurants in the area, but did not explore exchange Place fully. Free parking on site and felt safe walking around at any time of day.

A short 200 meter walk to the Hudson River Lack of swimming pool The only thing lacking at this hotel is a swimming pool. But if you're visiting New York for pleasure you'll never miss it. You're 2 blocks away from a nice shopping mall, Casual and Fine Dining, and even closer to the Hudson River and a spectacular view of New York City's Manhattan IslandWhen traveling to New York City. Take the NY Ferry which is only about a 6-8 min walk from the Candlewood Suites. You're also close to the Train (called the PATH Train) which will take you to Liberty National Park where you can take a Ferry from the NJ side to the Statue of Liberty. You'll aviod the mile-long line that I encountered on the NY side.If you're visiting New York for pleasure, this hotel is best place to be. You get the view of New York that you can't see when you're actually in New York. It's less crowded, and you're a short Ferry ride into New York City.If you're visiting New York for business, then I'd suggest staying in the Hotel that's close to where you need to be cause driving a car around this area is something that you should leave to the professionals.

I liked the great view of New York city from the window of my hotel room. The hotel did not have a restaurant or bar. Since I hadn't stayed there before, I didn't know what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised with the hotel. Friendly staff and our room had a great view of the New York city skyline. Also liked that the room had a kitchen complete with a microwave (and microwave popcorn) and an automatic ice maker. The hotel did not have a restaurant or bar, but it was within walking distance to many restaurants, bars, the Newport mall, and the path train. Would definitely recommend to friends and family.
