General Description

It is nearly impossible for anyone who is in any way sensitive to the beauty and grandeur of nature to stand in this special place and not feel the power that the Pimas refer to as the strong medicine of the South Mountain Preserve. Here, we have rediscovered a special place to share with our owners and guests. This is truly a place of deep relaxation and natural beauty. A place gently cradled in the largest regional wilderness park preserve in the country which covers over 50 square miles of pristine Sonoran desert. Deli/cafe and fitness center coming end 2008. The front desk is open Sunday-Thursday 9am-8pm, Friday 9am-10pm, and Saturday 8am-10pm. Housekeeping is available between 1-4pm. Office hours are Sunday-Thursday 9am-8pm Friday- 9am-10pm, Saturday- 8am-10pm Check-in at the front desk in building 10. If a guest anticipates arriving after hours they MUST contact the resort to arrange for a lockbox to be placed on the unit. Surrounded by unspoiled panoramas and teeming with a stunning variety of wildlife that belongs to this desert community, it is seemingly a remote retreat, minutes from downtown Phoenix.

Our second Spring time trip here in 3 years. Located on the corner of the South Mt. Preserve - the largest preserve in the United States. Trails are outside your backyard and vary from child friendly to a strenuous work out. Spring in the desert has spots of color that cannot be matched anywhere. Quail, bunnies, and birds are everywhere. Horseback riding nearby. Spring Training parks are close. 12 teams within a 45 minute drive - one within 5 minutes. Cactus League beats Grapefuit league hands down! Convenient to airport and highways. A car is a must. Pool is quiet and child friendly. Full kitchen and washer/dryer. The only draw back we found was the cleanliness of the rooms. Cleaning was too superficial for our taste. Staff were pleasant and helpful. Most certainly not a 5 star resort - but that is not what we were looking for. Quiet, relaxed, peaceful, convenient and great weather in the Spring! 2 and 3 bedroom condos make it a family friendly place. Our group included 2 grandparents (us), 3 adult children, two of their spouses and one granddaughter. Everyone found their special moment to make this a fantastic vacation. Photos on the Canyonview Resort web site do NOT do it justice.

This facility is gorgeous. It's surrounded on three sides by the huge South Mountain Preserve. My condo was comfortable and nicely decorated. The staff was amazingly friendly. The pool was relaxing. Each unit has a garage so your car doesn't get hot in the desert sun. My only complaint was that the exercise room was very basic with old, broken machines, including the TV. However, there are plenty of hiking trails right outside your door, so who needs a treadmill? I would definitely return..

loved the south mountain location. amazing to see foothills from our room. loved the garage. this is an excellent feature in phx for heat and safety reasons. wish we could have stayed longer. the price with travelocity was * cheaper than calling the hotel directly. pleasantly surprised.

This is a very quiet, peaceful getaway. The preserve is very nice and we saw wild life in the condo areas and on walks. No one bothers you or comes into your room during your stay. Very nice furnishings, comfortable and clean My only criticism would be that the tile in the kitchen be replaced, someone had burned it in several spots.
