General Description

The Chasedale in Ross on Wye is a large Victorian House built in 1870, ‘in the dale of the Chase’, the wooded hill which still provides an impressive backdrop for the hotel. Although only 1/2 mile from the town centre it is comparatively secluded, being surrounded by gardens extending to 3/4 of an acre, ample car parking within the grounds. The 10 spacious en suite bedrooms are all individually furnished with central heating, remote control television, radio & hospitality tray. We have one secluded garden view room. Many of the original features of the house have been preserved, including the tiled entrance hall and elaborate ceiling plasterwork in the restaurant and lounge. Our comfortable lounge, where our well stocked bar is situated, is the ideal place to unwind and relax. All of the services at the Chasedale come under the personal supervision of the resident directors, especially the cooking. The menu offers a wide variety of dishes including a separate vegetarian menu. Whenever possible, fruit, vegetables and herbs from the walled kitchen garden are utilised. The Chasedale is an ideal centre from which to explore the lower reaches of the Wye Valley (ANOB) and the Forest of Dean to the south, the Malvern Hills and black and white villages of Herefordshire to the north, the Golden Valley, the Brecon Beacons and Black Mountains to the west, and Gloucester, Cheltenham and the Cotswolds to the east.

I was staying in Ross for the Regatta weekend. The hotel was fine and the service friendly and good. My only observation was that breakfast could have started earlier. However this was only as I needed to be at the Regatta by 8.30am on the Sunday and Monday. Other than this I was pleased with the hotel and believe that it represented excellent value for money

I think the hotel is good value for money. however a couple of points worth mentioning. The room walls are a little thin - I had a loud Tv on one side and someone who was snoring for England on the other - both not overtly loud, but loud enough to prevent sleep. The lack of a proper shower was a disappointment. On returning to the hotel in the early evening, the water was only luke warm, postponing the hot bath I was really looking forward to! That said, the bed was comfortable, the service was great and the breakfast superb.
