General Description

Built in 1900 as the HOTEL already housed guests at the time of the Emperor Franz Joseph who travelled to Vienna by train coming from the south of Europe for all sorts of reasons. One of the guests was Franz Kafka who met Milena here in 1917 (Letters to Milena). Today the Hotel Congress can also be comfortably reached by car using the motorway exit Landstrasser Hauptstrasse on the G'rtel, direction 'S'dbahnhof . The parking lot is directly opposite the hotel. Although all rooms and facilities are technically up-to-date, the Jugendstil/Art Nouveau atmosphere has been preserved. All rooms are equipped with bath or shower, satellite TV, minibar and hairdryer. We offer a sumptuous breakfast buffet in our restaurant. Centrally located and directly opposite the S'dbahnhof (South Railway Station), it's only a short distance from Belvedere Palace and the underground. The State Opera is a mere 12 minutes' walk away.

Very conveniently located hotel for the Südbahnhof and the U1 metro line into the city and beyond. For those requiring internet the facilities are limited: there is a computer as well as WLAN (Wi-Fi) in the lobby and there appear to be plans to provide cable LAN in the rooms; check first. There is no laundry service. Cleanliness is good overall but requires more attention to detail, e.g. the sticky chairs in the dining room. Customer service is patchy: one friendly and helpful member of staff, the rest are indifferent.

Nice rooms, friendly and helpful staff. Location unlovely on a very busy and noisy street, but well located concerning transport to airport and trains generally. No air conditioning so in hot sunny weather rooms to the street - like mine get very hot indeed and if you open the window trafficnoise will kill your sleep.

Staff were not very friendly. The website gives the impression that there is parking available from the Hotel but in fact, none is available and the staff were not helpful at all in helping to find parking. The website also implies that there is free internet where in fact, the internet is not free and actually quite expensive - we recommend going across the train line and taking the second left and going to thei nternet cafe there. the rooms were not particularly clean - the bathroom floor was covered with this greasy residue, the fridge didn't work properly and the rooms were quite run down. breakfast was nothing special but decent. we wouldn't recommend that you stay here and considering the price you can do a lot better.
