Do I really need to say more??? The staff was very nice and the shopping center across the street is convenient but I can't imagine staying here again. The rooms look clean on the surface but this place is not sanitary. I've been in healthclub locker rooms that were cleaner...

Yes, I am serious. Amongst other things, the apparatus I found in the kitchen was enough to close the deal. The stench of the room should have been a dead giveaway upon walking in the door. Or perhaps the shopping cart we found outside the back door, or the broken pullout couch, or the closet doors falling off the hinges would have been some indication that the staff, and cleaning crews were not doing their jobs. Aside from that, the room was disgustingly filthy. My friend who is a police officer said it looked to him like a prostitute had lived there, or had set up shop there in the room. We also had friends in four other rooms who had many complaints as well. None as severe as mine, but enough to say that the pictures on this website are not at all accurate. You can read their reviews of this hotel on orbitz.com, and AAA's website. I will say that after reporting all of the problems to the office, the manager did arrange to have a new room cleaned and prepared for us. However, after waiting six hours for the cleaning staff, I called the nice people at Travelocity, who booked us a new room at a different hotel, and promised me a full refund. This was after they made 7 attempts to contact the hotel only to be hung up on every time.

For the money this is a great hotel. I stayed in the smaller of the rooms. My room had very good heating and cooling with the provided unit. It also had a kitchenet with stove, oven, microwave, refrigerator, and coffee maker. It does not however come with pots and pans or anything else really but does have a table with 2 chairs. The room was pretty clean as was the bathroom. It is very close to the beach (can walk there). 2 grocery stores and a Walgreen's is just a 2 minutes walk away which helps keep from spending money of always eating out since the room has a kitchen. There is a number of resturants also in walking distance including a Apple bees and Sushi House as well as others. My wireless card could not pick up there signal very good however the room had a ethernet (cat5e) to plug laptop into the wall which worked very good. Just across road is a bus stop for jumping on the bus. Hotel grounds have plenty of parking. This room also had lots of light and a ceiling fan. Tv worked very good with all the typical cable channels. Since I was staying for more than a week this proved to be a very good choice especially for the price and the included kitchen.

We stayed here for 3 nights. The location is terrific; very close to the shoreline and also to the city of Alameda. The room was larger than expected, and even had a kitchenette. The only negative was the bed--harder than is comfortable for me. All in all, it is a great value in an expensive area.

The rooms at this property were very clean. I travel quite often on business and will not stay at a property if I can tell they are not taking care of it. However, I can tell that management definitely cares. The staff treated me as though I were family, and remembered my name from previous stays. I will definitely stay here whenever doing business in the Bay Area.

The hotel is located right next to a wild bird sanctuary where one can walk amid seagulls, pelicans, and other water birds on a sandy beach of the East Bay. Across the street is a mall where everything you need is within walking distance. Down Park Street is the interesting town of Alameda's main drag with a great choice of local restaurants, an art deco theater and lots more to discover. The room was large and comfortable with a kitchenette. It was great to have parking on site and the staff was friendly and helpful. The grounds were beautifully kept up, perhaps a little better than the hotel itself which was adequate.

Located withing easy walking distance of downtown Alameda and lots of very good local restaurants. The Coral Reef itself is nothing special, but its location and price more than makes up for any shortcomings. Located within a few blocks of downtown Alameda, it's within easy walking distance of local restaurants and shops. There's a retail development right across the street that includes a Safeway and Trader Joe's, so travelers wanting to economize meals can easily utilize the Reef's kitchenette. Plus, the room we stayed in was very spacious, making travel with kids just a little easier.

It advertized that the room had a kitchette; but it had no dishes, silverware or anything to cook with. It was relatively clean, the staff was somewhat friendly and accomodating, but the room, though spacious was disappointing.

I enjoyed staying at this hotel, because of it's convience. The hotel is adjacent to a bowling alley, Safeway,Trader Joes, bus stop across the street, Elsie Roemers bird sanctuary, which also offers a spectacular view of the San francisco skyline. It is close to the commuter ferry to Sf and the Bart station. The room is big with a kitchen. The only draw back is the lack of cook wear and utensils. I've found it cheaper to buy the cooking utensils, food, etc. at the near by Trader Joes's and Safeway. The staff was kind and helpful.

The Coral Reef is a landmark in Alameda. Just recently bought over it had belonged to one family for several generations. The new owners have not made apparent changes to the positives but they haven't fixed the negatives either. The furnishings are very old but clean. The pool is great but there is broken patio furniture that has not been replaced in over two years although they say it will be. However the staff are friendly and do their best to please. The location is great, calm, quiet right by the beach and in a lovely little town not far from the highways to San Francisco, Oakland or San Jose. There is no one to help with luggage and the sheets and towels are worn out. Would we stay there again? We always do, for the accommadating staff, the location and like McDonalds, it is always the same. Not great, but no surprises either. There is something to be said for that!

The location was great, shopping center and beach-side. Filthy carpets (in my room anyway), noisy guests. I anticipated a cleaner environment with its AAA rating. Mostly, the carpets need replacing sort of a musty smell in my non-smoking room. Location can't be beat if you like a user friendly beach and shopping center being remodel to upscale within walking distance.

I booked my reservation 6 months early and when I arrived they said my reservation had been cancelled. I had paid in full for my room ahead of time and NEVER cancelled my reservation! We asked how this could have happened and the man behind the desk said that they had recieved a fax from our travel agent that I was cancelling...we asked to see the fax, they couldn't find it. The man behind the desk was very cold and acted the entire time like it wasn't his problem and "tough luck". Our travel agent tried to fix it by telling them we are confirmed for the room and the man behind the desk said they had no more of the "standard rooms" available. We had to be "upgraded" to the lagoon suite. The suite was terrible! We originally booked a room with 2 beds, ended up with a room with a bed and a sleeper sofa...not very comfy. The lagoon was not beautiful as I had pictured it...the view on the other side is nothing but run-down homes. The carpet is really gross...it was difficult to take off my shoes and walk with my socks since it was gross looking. Three nights into our stay, our door keys stopped working...there was no explanation as to why.

We stayed in an Executive Suite and the room was HUGE! It felt like I was in my apartment. The suite was spacious with a comfortable living area and sizable kitchen. The main downside was the wireless internet. I needed to do a few things while on vacation and our room wasn't close enough to the router. Finally I was able to get a direct connect to the internet by the 4th day and that helped the stay much better. For basic accommodations it's truly hard to beat this value. The staff was friendly and helpful(well most of them, the overnight guy was not the most helpful or friendliest). The continental breakfast was very good and offered a sufficient choice of items. LOCATION: GREAT!!!! I was very surprised how close we were to the city (both Oakland and San Fran) and Alameda was so nice and a quiet town. I would stay at this hotel again and plan to again very very soon.

"It took 3 days to convince the staff and the manager that the electronic key system to our room did not work. Had to make numerous trips to the front desk (some distance away) to get new keys. On last day finally had to bet the manager that the key system did not work. Room not made up completely on the first day and only partly on the second day. Attitude of staff was of indifference to lack of amenities, like butter at the morning breakfast or soap in the launderette."

The Coral Reef Inn was nicely situated in Alameda, Ca. It was just a short walk to the beach area.We were given a room with 2 queen beds and a kitchenette, which was very nice, since it overlooked the lagoon. There were a few things I did notice, though, that should be attended to in the future: 1. Housekeeping: Twice we had to ask for sufficient towels and washcloths. 2. Out on our little balcony outside of our room, we found an overflowing ashtray and a glass of liquid with cigarette butts in it. 3.The kitchenette was very sparse. There was part of a place setting and only 1 dish. The Continental breakfast in the morning was more than adequate and better than some motels I've stayed at. The whole facility could use a fresh coat of paint just to spiff it up a bit, because it is an old motel. The grounds are pleasant, though.

The room is very spacious and hotel staff was very helpful. The floor was dirty though, snack pieces were left on the floor. There was a kitchen in our room, fully equipped, but unfortunately we did not get to use it. The breakfast was simple, staff was friendly and helpful, wish that the ethernet cable was provided.

The location was close to where I was working and close to restaurants and shopping. The rooms were quiet and private. The bed was hard and the maid service did not make my bed in the morning. The room was quiet and the hotel was close to shopping. The full kitchen in my room would have been great if there were pots and pans, and utensils with. I had plenty of room to move around as the room was like a small 1 bedroom apartment. Great TV selections.

We finally realized that we didn't have to eat donuts every morning just because they were there. We like the Coral Reef Inn. We have stayed there once before and we plan to go back there again. We have family in the area and chose this hotel for it's closeness to them as well as the value. It's less expensive than other hotels in the area. It's older but have some features that you don't find in most hotels, like a lot of closet space and a kitchenette in your room. The Continental breakfast is nice and since there is a table in your room it can be enjoyed there. The room is clean and comfortable but they do need larger TV's for earsier viewing from your bed.

I stay in a Lagoon Room 4 months out of the year, my rooms are consistently clean and well stocked with towels with a view of the lagoon and Oakland Hills. Having a private patio comes in handy for relaxation after a hectic day. I like the fact that I have a separate bedroom and a full kitchen with dining table. However, if you wanted to go out and eat, the area has some of the best eateries you could possibly ask for (and most in walking distance). The location of The Coral Reef and access to Oakland and San Fran is unparalled to anywhere in the Bay area. The staff are always friendly and the check-in process is easy, day or night. The value is extremely hard to beat compared to the area. As a frequent business traveler, this is by far, the most accommodating hotel I have found in the Bay Area.

Love that it is a small apartment. No dishes or utensils in kitchen. This is a great place to stay, with suites that are really small, one bedroom apartments. Excellent location. A quarter block walk to the bay. Shopping center right across the street. It is the place we like to stay in when traveling to the East Bay.
