The hotel offers the comfort of a country Hotel but with the added bonus of being situated in the city centre within easy access of shopping and so forth. All rates include use of the leisure facilities, i.e. swimming pool and Jacuzzi and also entrance to a local gym. There is also on site parking and complimentary wireless internet access in the Lobby and Tavern Bar. (GW 05/2009) The hotel was built in 1905 on the site of the original Crown and Mitre Inn which dates back to before the Jacobite Rebellion of 1746. The Inn was demolished in 1902 to make way for the existing Hotel which took 3 years to build. it s a grand and elegant building. The Edwardian Style Crown and Mitre Hotel is situated in the centre of Carlisle, adjacent to Carlisle Cathedral, within easy walking distance of Carlisle Castle and Tullie House Museum opposite the award winning Lanes Shopping Centre.

The hotel was idealing locating in the centre of Carlisle, staff were pleasent and hotel had an upmarket feel to it. The bar was expensive but this can be expected at most hotels nowadays. The hotel provides car parking but you have to get somebody to open the gates for you as they are locked and not controled remoteley and you are also required to leave you keys at reception due to fire regulations. There was a wedding on when we stopped and the car park was grid locked on Sunday morning, so it was a good job we did have to leave early.

Hotel in good location with helpful friendly staff and very clean. The only problem is they appear to be understaffed. We waited in the bar for 10 minutes before being served and there were already customers their, Later on in the evening we waited for 5 minutes at reception for our keys only to find the receptionist was serving in the bar on his own. 24 hour reception should mean 24 hour reception and not we have one but he has several other jobs to do!

Carliol SuiteLarge suite with five windows to the front which overlook the town square but is noisy early in the moring due to the street cleaner vehicles. Triple wide bed plus sofa, dining table and large LCD TV. One bathroom with one bath and one hand basin which was surprising for a suite of its size. Breakfast was not included in the room rate.

excellent parking facilities and the hotel is in an excellent central location.
