The views from the resort were beautiful! You were overlooking the ocean, and the staff were very helpful. Palomino island was a quick ferry ride to a wonderful beach. The rooms were clean and adorable. Overall ,we enjoyed ourselves and would come again. The only two complaints that we have I will list below in hopes that someone will benefit from our lessons learned. 1) BEWARE of the kayaking prices down at the marina. We signed up for what we thought was a 35 dollar a person night snorkling, and it turned out to be a night kayaking trip (lasted one hour) and was $176 dollars! Not worth that kind of money to be certain, and we felt as though we were tricked. The lesson we learned and impart to you, always ask for the total price before you sign up for anything at the marina. The second complaint that we had was 2) The drinks and food at the resort were extremely over priced. You are very much a captive audience and are forced to pay a lot of money for medicore food. For example, by the pool you could order a cheeseburger for 17 dollars, and a coke for 4 dollars. That was cheap compared to the rest of the dining options. Beer and drinks were at least 9 dollars a piece. Come prepared to spend a lot of money on food and drinks. We did find that there is a fishing village down the hill, which served authentic food at reasonble prices, and we certainly recommend that as a break for your wallets.

"The hotel was fabulous at every point from lobby to casino to marina but the 2 things they could use improvement on is the hotel rooms and the food. The hotel is in Fajardo, a fabulous location for accessing 2 neighboring islands and rainforest. However, the room was a bit deteriorated and unclean. There is a wide selection of restaurants in the hotel but they were all very expensive - $17 for a burger is not worth it to me. "

They have many different restaurants, not just one. They charge for parking 20 dollars a day, that's ridiculous! I liked the hotel overall. However when I parked on the first night in self parking. It took them 30 minutes to send a golf cart down to come pick me up. In fact, they wanted me to walk up the hill with my heavy luggage at first, before I asked for a pick up by them. There are some things they are clearly missing. You would never find this behavior at a hotel in Las Vegas. However they did steer me to a great sailboat/snorkeling charter!

El Conquistador was a fantastic experience from start to finish. I visited three other mega resorts on Puerto Rico during my stay and this one is by far my favorite. The rooms were newly renovated, clean and a good size. Almost all the rooms at this property have some kind of ocean view. This property is massive, but it was easy to get around. You didn't feel like you were walking forever. Because this property is on a significant hillside, it makes for great views and the "Funiculaor" gets you from top to bottom with ease (and the kids loved riding in it). For us, the Coqui water park and El Conquistador's private island were the highlights. The private island is only a 10 minute comfortable boat ride on a high speed catamaran. The beaches on this private island are some of the best I've ever experienced. Soft sand, pleanty of sun and shade for those who seek it. There is a restaurant and bar on the island and oddly enough is cheaper than at the resort. There were also two little shops and water sports hut for rental of water craft. You can also horseback or hike the island if you wish. The Coqui water park is new and has plent to keep the kids entertained for hours. We split our day, morning on the island and afternoon at the water park. Both are easily do-able in one day and it split up the day a bit. Pros: Great rooms, nice casino, great choice of restaurants and menu selection, the private island and water park were awesome. The ambiance of the hotel is tropical elegance. There is plenty to do for all ages. Cons: 45 minutes from San Juan, secluded resort away from everything else

Great facilities, sprawling grounds, very beautiful private island. Far away from the rest of Puerto Rico, such as San Juan. A truly gorgeous hotel with spectacular views of the sea. Rooms are perched high on the cliff. Although somewhat inaccessible without a car, there is a 35 dollar shuttle from the airport. So unless you plan on traveling places during the stay, this resort is sheer paradise.

Beautiful hotel, fantastic beach and facilities. Great restaurants. Misinformation at the desk and at the concierge. Everything went perfect but the first day I asked if I can bring guest to the private island. The person in the Front Desk told to make arrangements with the Concierge. I went to that desk talk to them and they said the only thing I had to do is when they come to go to the Front desk and add the names that at least one was going to be part of my group and the other one maybe I had to pay. So I invited my brother when I go to give the names of my brother and my sister in law, the woman at the Front Desk told me that was impossible because of insurance reasons only guest can go to the Island. I told her that it was embarrassing that my family drove to far to come to the hotel and I cant take them to the Island . She was very negative but she went inside and talk to manager that never came out (seems very unprofessional) then she came out and said that the manager was going to let them go but she was charging me 40.00 per person, which at this point I agree to stop the embarrassment.

The room was nice. The front desk does a lousy job, they are careless. The resort is lovely and first class, when I arrived at check-in at noon time they did a pre-registration for me. They said there system was down (which I think was a lie). However, they told me to come back at 3:00pm which I did because that was there official check in time. They said the rooms were not ready. They said come back at 4:00, which I did. They said come back at 5:00 which I did. Finally at 5:30pm I was able to check in. It was funny that the housekeeper knocked on my door at 9:30 am during check-out day asking what time was I checking out. I wish they were that concerned about checking in the guests than they are checking them out. Everything else was excellent. They have a lousy, I mean lousy front desk. You all can go and check it out for yourself. By the way I stayed in room 3315.

El Conquistador has gorgeous views from all directions - the ocean vista over the cliff is magnificent. Very difficult to find - need signs in Fajardo making clear the tricky turns to get to the resort. El Conquistador is a wonderful place to stay. The rooms are nice, and the amenities (hot tubs, private island) and ambiance are unmatched. The resort has its own casino, as well as many restaurants, a golf course and a spa. It is difficult not to spend a lot of money here, as it is isolated from the nearby town, but a great time is guaranteed.

beautiful grounds, many pools, extremely friendly staff some rooms were a little tired" (needed an update)" Very majestic appearing as you drive in. Many pools, so none were crowded. There is constant maintenance, so everything is very fresh looking, but there are also a lot of workers around and some noise. The staff is extraordinarily nice and accommodating

The Conquistador Hotel and Resort is a beautiful property, however, all food and beverages are way over priced. If you decide to stay at this resort, it is advisable to rent a car in order to leave the property, meet the locals, try the local fare and save a lot money on food/beverages. You will save money by renting a car from airport. This is a very clean hotel, but very far from San Juan, about an hour drive. It is about a half hour drive to the rainforest, El Yunque and about twenty minutes from the beautiful beach, Luquillo. Luquillo has many restaurants, quioskos that serve the local fare at a low price.

The hotel was in a beautiful location. It was secluded on the mountain top with a beautiful view of the resort and the private island. Everyone was very helpful and accomodating. The only drawback was that one of the pools with the swim up bar was being repaired at the time. The private island definitely made up for it. It was breathtaking. It is a little costly. It was perfect for our honeymoon. There is not much nearby, as you are 45 minutes from San Juan so everything pretty much is done at the resort.

"This place needs a lesson in Customer Service. They gave my husband and I a suite and full oceanview room for our honeymoon, two days later they took the suite back and locked it up (while we were gone, didn't even have the opportunity to retrieve our stuff) because they said they needed to rent it and they had the right to take it back because we didn't pay for it. Truth of the matter was, they never rented it out, someone made a mistake and they wouldn't admit it. Spend your money elsewhere, this place is too expensive anyway."

HOTEL IS DEFINITELY UPSCALE AS FAR AS BUILDINGS, LANDSCAPING, SERVICE, AND PANORAMIC VIEWS. HOTEL STAFF WAS VERY PROFESSIONAL AND EAGER TO HELP CUSTOMERS. ALTHOUGH OUR ROOM WAS NOT QUITE READY WHEN WE ARRIVED, THE HOTEL CLERK COMPENSATED WITH COMPLIMENARY DRINKS AND BREAKFAST. THE HOTEL HAS PLENTY OF ACTIVITIES TO OFFER EITHER AT THE RESORT OR ON PALAMINO ISLAND. THE QUICK TRIPS BETWEEN THE HOTEL AND PALAMINO ARE QUITE ENJOYABLE. VISITORS SHOULD HAVE THEIR OWN RENTAL CAR(DEFINITELY WITH A NAV SYSTEM) TO EXPLORE OTHER POINTS OF INTEREST.

Upon arrival we were told that they did not have anymore double beds. We were traveling with our 12yr old son and did not want him sleeping on a blow up mattress while on vacation. Plus we did not pay for blowup mattress rates. After over half an hour they found us a double queen. I felt that they did not care. It was in the old smelly hotel. Hallways looked like a motel hallway. I was embarrassed! Mildew in showers. Linens old. Could not regulate temp in room. Was always too cold. Pool area needs maintenace. Staff not very attentive in resteraunts. One omlet guy with 10+ people on line! Whatelse can I say! Would not come back. Dining - Bring lots of money. Breakfast & Lunch for 3 was always $*+. Dinner entress are $25+ Best part of resort was the little island. You would think they would have someone take drink orders. Hey how about some music. No entertainment at night.......

My wife and I loved the views and we didn't have a ""cliff"" view. From our room, we were overlooking the bay with the lighthouse. There was great shopping on site, with a variety of restaurants. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The casino was fun for all, even with the penny slots. The island beach was great, and we liked taking the boat over, which only took 8 minutes. I'm going to try and make it back again. Great place for our Anniversary.

"The resort lived up to expectations, but the room was far below standard. After changing rooms twice, finally upgraded to a room in areawhere the rooms have been refurbished-the Las Brisas wing. The room was beautiful-but I understand this room costs an additional $100-$160 per night, which is high. I cannot even begin to go into the numerous things that were wrong with our first 2 rooms. I would go back to this resort, but not for a few years, when I know that all renovations have been completed and the chance of getting a substandard room is zero."

"We found a breathtaking view and a beautiful private island (Palomino Island) marred by parking site renovations, hammering and drilling from 9am in the room next to ours, (luckily on our last day .We asked at the checkout counter and were told that was 'normal', because of room renovations), overpriced restaurant fare, and three calls to room service to receive coffee for our in-room coffee machine, which should have been there in the first place. Would not go again ever. "

I will never stay at the El Conquistador Resort again. Throughout my stay most of the hotel staff was unhelpful and at times unpleasant. To make matters worse, our room was unclean with rust stains in the bathroom, dirty toilet, stained rug, stained sheets, dirty vents, broken tiles on the veranda and the list goes on. In addition, several things at the hotel where out of service which made it hard to get around at times. I would have checked out early, but I was attending a Wedding at the hotel. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Although the food was expensive, it was very good. The effort it took to get to their beach-walk to funicular ride then walk to ferry for 20 minute ride to beach island. Even though it is a convention hotel, the conventions did not get in our way and we really enjoyed ourselves.

The grounds were immaculate. The golf course looked first rate and championship caliber. Palomino island was also very nice. Parking was inconvenient unless you used the valet service. Tipping got tiresome also. Construction on site detracted from resort experience. We only stayed one night at this hotel and arrived late due to flight difficulties. The food was typical resort-expensive, as were fees to park. The rooms we stayed in were old, but were large and worked well for a family stay. There were plenty of shops and palomino island was very nice. Plan to stay at least 2-3 days if you choose this resort. The staff was very helpful, but there was a clear expectation of tipping for services.

Gorgeous views from this aging, slow-paced resort. Expect waits, lines and some inconveniences, such as having to travel by funicular to reach the middle and lower parts of the resort (there are NO stairs!). No beach, but a lovely island is a boat ride away (allow several hours--its slow--like everything here). Resort is an hour drive from the airport.

"Nice places to visit (old San Juan) and El Yunque (rainforest). The resort is really nice but they need to separate couples from families with screaming kids. I expected better food for $. We went to Wal-mart for cheap snacks and bottles of water! The spa was nice. The golf course was beautiful! The tennis courts were at the front of the resort. There was construction (loud early mornings). Long waits for ferries, but once there you could do alot and get away from others. Watch out for the reef/rocks...bring water shoes! "
