The room was spartan and the fixtures were in need of repair. The doors were water damaged. The evening noise from late parties was constant. There was a convention each night with loud music until at least 3 AM. The grounds were OK but the walkways were uneven. My wife tripped and bruised her ribs when she fell. When we approached the desk staff and told them about it, they just smiled and appeared not to understand. That was enough for us. We vacated and spent the last few nights at a smaller, cleaner, quieter hotel where the staff understood everything we said. We are very upset that a hotel as old and respected would have declined so much in the service and facilities.

if you go to Mazatlan this is not the place to stay its a 50 year old hotel that has not been remodeled it is very humid the air conditioning is soooo old I would think its even hazardous to our health. When we arrived everyone in the hotel the people working there with long faces no one smiling as if everyone was in a bad mood ,there was nobody swimming in the pool and at the bar only one man cleaning NO ONE at their beach so we walked about one block to Pueblo Bonito where in the future God willing we are planning to stay there.STAY AWAY FROM EL FARO!!!

we stayed 4 days at the faro, marina view, all inclusive. try to get an ocean view. private beach was nice b/c there wasn't anyone trying to sell you anything. food was okay - they had a grill going so at least you saw it being cooked in front of you. kinda salty but overall, good. service and staff were wonderful and friendly. they don't offer any beach activities that they advertise and only one restaurant was avaliable throughout the whole stay. nighttime activities consisted of one man playing and singing. didn't see too many americans. with all-inclusive, only one type of beer and tequilla was offered. one pool table worked. they have wireless internet there. the room was huge - hard bed but didn't bother me. water pressure was good but the temperature wasn't consistant. great deal for the price. bargain for taxis or take a bus into town for 8 pesos. tours are avalible at the resort next door, the marina el cid, but nothing was offered to us at this hotel.

We loved The Faro! Everyone we met were very friendly, helpful, fun and gracious people. From the moment we arrived and couldn't find my passport to the day we relunctantly left we had a great time. The food was good, the service was wonderful and the evening entertainment was pure joy. The beach was beautiful and the sunsets awesome. Our rooms were clean, but need some upkeep due to the moisture. I think the beds are a little too hard for most people, but not me. The water pressure in the shower is not what we are used to in the USA. If you go to Mexico with a since of adventure, to taste another culture, and to meet the wonderful people you will not be disappointed at the Faro.

We spent the last week in Feb/07 at Faro. As some of the other reviews stated - could use updating however the rooms worked and were comfortable. Food was good, service was good. Nice pool and great Beach area. This resort has beautiful grounds and is clean. No real entertainment except for a couple nites of Kareoke. The resort is on a hill which avoids alot of street noise that others may have. I would definately go back.

Being on the far northern end of the Golden Zone of Mazatlan and just before the entrance to Mazatlan's Marina, I found Faro Mazatlanna all-inclusive hotel to be segragated from most of the action of the Golden Zone of Mazatlan. My first impression of my room was that it needed updating, though clean. The furnishings were a gray laminate, something from the 60s. The bathroom also needed updatng as the shower barely squirted water. I did not have a view of the ocean, but did have a view of the Marina. The main restaurant for breakfast and dinner were buffets and served an adequate variety of foods for my taste, and which I did enjoy. I found the luncheon restaurant on the beach to be only okay. The salad buffet was good, but I did not care for the fried calamari on the menu. Faro has its own beach area, located between a point and the Marina. If you like walking the beach, you could walk it back and forth in less than two minutes. The hotel had no activities. I found all the staff to be very nice and accommodating. As for recommending it to others, I found it adequate for the one night I stayed there, but I would not stay longer than that.
