We got a fantastic hotel especially in NYC in that particular location. We were in a one bedroom suite. We very comfortably fit our family in it and with teenagers who are adult sized, it made for a most enjoyable stay. Two bathrooms, a kitchen and a huge living room. The key part was size and location. I will absolutely return to that hotel again. We go to NYC fairly regularly and our daughter is looking at colleges there so we look forward to returning.

We enjoyed our stay at Flatotel. The location is great. Our room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. However the sofa in the room was not very comfortable and the lighting was dim. The bathroom needs some tile work. We didn't eat in the restaurant but had drinks in the bar. It was very nice and service was good. I used the business center a couple of times and was happy to learn internet access was free! Overall we had a great stay and would recommend the Flatotel to others.

After reading reviews of other hotels in NYC, and having never been to the city, I expected my room at this hotel to be cramped, old, etc. Much to my surprise, the room was quite large. We had a desk and two chairs, a refrigerator, microwave, closet, dresser, large bathroom, etc. The hotel was very modern and chic, as well as super clean. I absolutely loved it and will definitely stay there the next time I am in NYC. The location couldn't be any better - right next to all of the action of Times Square. There is nothing I didn't like about this hotel, except for maybe the fact that there was no exhaust fan for when you take a shower. The trip was excellent and the hotel was awesome. I couldn't have been any more pleased.

The Flatotel has a superb location, convenient to restaurants, subways, Rockefeller Center, Theater, etc. The staff was unfailingly helpful and pleasant to us, particularly the concierge who helped us with some complex directions, and the staff in the restaurant who were cheerful and knowledgeable. Our room had every amenity we could possibly need, although I would describe the furnishings as adequate, rather than luxurious. My husband asked the room attendant to clean our room later in the afternoon, rather than early in the morning, and she was very obliging to do that and then check the room later in the evening as well. We would stay at this hotel, without any doubt, on our next trip to New York. The only disappointing aspect was the look of the lobby, which is dark and not an appealing first impression of the hotel.

The Flatotel is a very good hotel near important places to visit in Manhattan. The staff is excelent, the room cleanliness is good too. The only thing that I expect better was the Continental Breaksfast I used to get more variety, included jam, cheese, eggs more variety of juices and fruits, what I mean by continental breakfast is a long table served with a lot a variety of food for breakfast with autoservice. But in general I liked this hotel and the next time I visit New York I would like to stay there.

To say that my stay was disappointing is an understatement. Our room was spacious but looked and felt dirty and dingy. The paint and plaster was coming off the wall and window area. We also had some tile come up on the restroom floor. Our alarm clock had a stain on it and the television was awful and extreamly out dated. Most disappointing was that when I voiced my concern to the front desk he was dismisive of me and did nothing to make my stay better. While I was in their business center using the computer the employee in the office next door was on the phone with an inappropriate conversation. She was cursing and talking about situations a customer should not have had to listen to. It is safe to say that I will never stay again and I will tell everyone who asks me about it to not stay there.

good location, good price, but wouldn't call it a four star hotel. Air conditioning in room was anemic (tolerable the first night when it was cooler from having rained, totally inadequate second night), No desk or chair in room (could sit on padded top on drawer unit at foot of bed. Fine for changing your shoes, but that's about all). Sink and shower drained slow. Tub had once been a jacuzzi tub and where the old water intake had been plugged, there was brown gunk (either glue or something growing, I didn't touch it to find out). Spacious room. Ironing board, no iron. No in-room coffee service, but coffee and tea in lobby in the AM. Nice lobby, staff seemed fine. Felt secure.

Everything was clean from the entrance all the way to your room. Now the room was real nice. I was really suprised. Microwave oven, fridge, jaccuzzi tub and tile bathroom. Even has FREE fresh fruit at the entrance. The hotel staff was very nice. You are in walking distance of all the action, Time Square, 30 Rock, Today Show, Radio City Music Hall, Central Park, the Port, and much more. I will keep using the Flatotel for my future trips to the BIG APPLE. I rate my trip a TEN thanks to Flatotel and Travel website.

Please keep in mind that this building is very old and when it comes to remodeling it is not always what you think a remodeling job should be. The hotel does have nice contemporary décor; however the entire front area of the hotel lobby is too dim and the brown wood furniture is slightly banged up. The front hotel windows and doors where full of finger prints. Maybe that's why they keep the lights so low....... Anyway- I'm accustom to real upscale, but I think it has to do with where and how I live. You have to consider location.

I stayed at this hotel to attend a nearby seminar. There were no vending machines on the floors (if you wanted bottled water, the machines were located in the basement area near business services). It didn't look like they offer room service. There was no bell boy so you had to carry your own luggages to and from your room. Also, the concierge was not helpful to us in any way. However, the girl in reservation did a great job with finding us tickets to a show.

This was a very nice weekend stay for my friend and I. It was a girl's weekend and the staff, was sooo accommodating! We were there for my birthday and we were upgraded to a suite at no additional charge on our last night there....just to say "happy birthday"! The beds are absolutely comfortable, I did not even want to get up and the rooms are very spacious. The best part was the location. It was a block away from the heart of Time Square. And if you went in the opposite direction, its a block away from 5th Ave. Overall, my trip was fantastic and I would DEFINITELY stay here again!

The hallways to the rooms were not well kept, dingy walls, not so clean carpets...and a large black trash bag by the elevator in the center of the hallway on the day of check-in (not a good sight) This was all made up for by the size and the look of the room, which by the way looked exactly like the picture provided here online. However the customer service was spotty. On the day of check in, the receptionist was curt and abrupt -- he really seemed as if he was not happy to be there or to answer questions. To make matters worse, it took 3 hours to get fresh towels as the ones provided were not enough. I requested these towels at 8 am and did not receive them until past 11. The staff in general were not friendly. For the price I paid on here it was a good deal considering the location. If i were to do it again, i would probably try another hotel.

Flatotel has a great location however service was mediocre. Helpful at times but not always present. I only saw the concierge once in three days. The front desk appeared to be missing everytime we walked by. My girlfriend and I asked for non-smoking but were given a room that permeated with cigarette smoke and had ash trays. I was charged for two local phone calls that I never made. My recommendation is to find another hotel. The great part of Flatotel was that it is close to everything my girlfriend and I wanted to do. It is within minutes of great restaurants and theaters.

Friendly staff overall. When we requested a new remote control (batteries dead), it never came. The air conditioning didn't work, so we had to ask for another room, which was MUCH nicer and larger than the first one. Good free coffee available in lobby in the morning.

The hotel generally needs updating and it looks worn. The room decor is dated and cold. The staff told me that the hotel's restaurant has been closed "due to the economy". Hotel is instead serving free bagels and coffee in the morning. My impression was that the hotel is suffering and does not have the income to pay for proper updating and maintenance. Generally a depressing stay.

Great location, good size and very comfortable, especially for NYC. Located in the Times Square/ Midtown area, it is perfect for tourists, and business travelers alike. All NYC hotel rooms (that you'd want to stay in) are expensive, but this was reasonable and perfect for our needs. Highly recommend!

We stayed at the Flatotel in January of 2009. The obby is very contemporary as are the rooms. The room was spacious and the staff friendly. The room was better than most we have stayed near-by. We did not experience the bar or restuarant as there is so much so close by. I would highly recommend to anyone wanting a spacious room that is quiet with a convenient location.

My experience was a white room with no paintings that looked like a dorm room with cheap molding and trim. Then you go in the bathroom and there is jacuzzi. Makes no sense. I had the surpise of an intruder in my room at 4:30am in the morning. Another guest either had the wrong key from reception or his key worked on my room! After calling the front desk, I was told they will "look into it". Look into it? You just had someone break into my room. The next morning I again walked up to the reception and asked them to look into this ASAP. I told them to call me when they know more information about this. They never did. They did not care. This place was terrible and not safe. If my wife and kid were there, I would have made a bigger deal out of it. The Flatotel is a big waste of money. Also, the resturant in the hotel went belly up.

The hotel, over all was good. The room was small, but the bed was cozy and clean and we were very comfortable. It was clear that house keeping had overlooked the bathroom as there was hair in the tub, but only a few and I let them know and they took care of it. the rest. in the hotel was great, with vegie options. I will stay here again.

The Flatotel is a great boutique hotel. The room design and the maximized space allows a customer to enjoy several non-standard amenities as a refrigerator and microwave. The location is perfect for Times Square viewing at New Years Eve - block and half to see the ball drop and a quick amount of time to return. Staff are extremely friendly. Continental breakfast is a feast and a great value.

I got this hotel for [$]on Orbitz and I believe that for that price it was a steal. I have stayed in some really small rooms at a higher price or stayed in Jersey City for around $150 but this one beat them all. The location is great (right close to Times Square and Theatre district). The rooms are huge (for New York) and have a lot of space to move around and to get your work finished. Didn't like the lack of wireless internet in the rooms. Carry your LAN cable with you or else you can buy it at reception for $10.

The flatotel has a great location for Manhattan. It is close to Times Square, various Broadway shows, the Rockefeller Center, and fifth avenue shopping. It is just two blocks from the Museum of Modern Art. The rooms are quite small. The desk in my room was so small that it was hard for me to fit a laptop on it.The first two nights I had not hot water in my bathroom. Even though I called the front desk about it and they promised to fix it when I went out that day, the next morning I woke up to find out that I again had no hot water. The manager promised that she would compensate me for this issue, but until now I still have not received the promised compensation. Further, not all staff was informed of the situation and I had to spend even more time on my fourth day to explain the whole situation again to the new staff on that day. In sum, I spent three days without hot water; I had to spend a good deal of time 'complaining and explaining' to get the problem fixed more than once; and I still haven't been compensated as promised for the bad service.

The Flatotel was a great choice for us. It is only a short walk to Times Square and Broadway, and the MoMA is only 1 block over. Fifth ave and shopping are easy to get to. The room was larger than I expected for New York. There was a desk with cable internet, 2 chairs, and a good size closet. There was also a microwave, coffee maker and a small refrigerator, that really came in handy on hot days to store bottled water and drinks. The bathroom was very nice, with a long counter top of some kind of stone, with mosaic glass accents. In fact, all the room was nicely decorated. Importantly, it was very clean. The only issue we had was the water was hard to regulate; it was a bit on the hot side. Also, the hotel is located on a relatively quiet street.

This hotel was ok but definately not as luxurious as the pictures/details describe. Two of the three elevators were broken for our trip and the rooms are so small. The trip was a gift from my boyfriend. It was supposed to be hassle free and romantic. This is not the place. Our stay was fine until we came back to our room after being out all day and my clothes in my suitcase were all wet with a substance that smelled like urine. The next day, I left my bags with the valet while I went in town to get something. I did not open my bags until I arrived back in my place and ALL my jewelry was missing. It was really not worth much money, just the sentimental value. I am not saying anyone vandalized or stole, just some odd things happening at that hotel. I called and they refunded me back one night stay and washed my clothes. I travel a lot, and I like to stay at little boutique hotels. I am telling you, if you want a hassle free stay, stay at the other hotels down the street.

Loved the atmosphere - contemporary luxury on a smaller scale. It was very clean, but the bed was extremely firm - VERY uncomfortable. The staff had little to offer to help the situation. They said that they have had some complaints about the comfort factor of the mattress. We were surprised that The Flatotel had not kept up with other four-star competitors by having Heavenly Beds standard in their rooms. The staff said that all of their beds were the same firmness. After a long day of site-seeing and shopping, a restful night's sleep would have benefitted us greatly. We will not choose this hotel again.

The room was large by New York City standards and well equiped and the bathroom was especially big for NYC.We agreed to the room primarily because the weather was awful to consider an alternative. The lobby is very ordinary and quite ugly. It was completely empty that evening even though there seemed to be plenty of people staying there. The restaurant was closed but they did make us a pasta as requested at the bar and the staff were otherwise accomodating, helpful and polite. The room is well equiped with amenities to meet most needs. I especially liked the roomy bathroom. The room was dark and you could hear noise from adjoining rooms.

The Flatotel is right in midtown so it's well situated. Best things about it other than that were the price and the staff. We got a room on a Sunday night for 235. The front desk was very courteous and helpful, as were the doormen and bellmen. Room was nondescript, and no view (don't know that it has any, squashed in amongst some bigs) but very clean and comfortable.

Have stayed at this hotel on many occasions, conceirge Greogory is amazing and is so knowledgeable. Rooms are large and comfortable. But unfortunately front desk staff needs an overhall. Room wasn't ready when we arrived and were told everything would be done for us when we returned to our room. Not so, not only were the beds not made, could not shower and we had to change our dinner reservations which we had to run to. We were quite disappointed. The hotel is being renovated and so should the front desk.

We arrived at the Hotel at 11:00am with check in only at 4PM. The receptionist not only upgraded our room but allowed us to check in early. We were given a room witha panoramic view down 6th avenue.Every staff we talked to were friendly and extremely polite making sure we were very confortable. We would definitely return to this hotel.

Flatotel is a great place if you are visiting Manhattan and going to attractions such as Fifth Avenue, Broadway, and Rockefeller Center. All of them are withing walking distance from the hotel. You get you best bang for the buck.

Overall, our experience at the Flatotel was great. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The lobby and bar area are impressive. The location is fantastic - just a half a block from 7th and a short walk to Times Square or to 5th Avenue. It is in the midst of the theater district and affords easy access to the subway. There are many excellent restaurants nearby. In addition to Times Square, within just a few minutes you can walk to Rockerfeller Center, Radio City Music Hall, Central Park, shopping on 5th Avenue, among other things. The rooms are very comfortable and relatively large. On the less positive side, the rooms were not as clean as they could have been..not exactly dirty, but not spotless either. The maid service was not the best I have seen - we had to leave notes asking for bathroom tissue and bath soap. And the restaurant on the premises was closed for renovation, and there was no room service. Neverthess, when you consider the price (which was great) and the excellent location, we would certainly stay there again.

Two nights stuck on a smoking floor. Certainly not the "cosmopoliton" hotel advertized. The room looked as though it was furnished from a bad yard sale. No room service, no wake-up call, surly employees. Absolutely dreadful!!! Do not stay here.

What passes for 4 star in NYC would not be 2 star anywhere else. Room was huge but looked like a very rundown apartment. Furniture was worse than a college dorm. Carpets were soaking wet when I got in room. Could not even put my luggage down on floor the first night.Horrible AC that intermittently gave off a very loud hum that would wake you in middle of night.Got NO SLEEP the second night at all.Would not recommend this place for my dog.

Very large room for NYC!! Super comfy beds, spacious bathroom and real clean!! I would do this hotel EVERY time I come to NYC...it was perfect!! My only negative is that I returned two weeks later and wanted to stay at the hotel again. The price was double since the two weeks prior!! I tried to communicate personally thinking maybe that would help, but they wouldn't budge on the price..that's the one thing I hate...I finally found a hotel I would use every time, but I can't because again, it's dependent on the price..I guess they don't care about loyalty, just money...if you get it at a reasonable rate though, I wouldn't go anywhere else!! It's close to everything!! I loved it!!

The Flatotel is conveniently located on 6th, near Rockefeller Center, Broadway and shopping. It's in midtown near many office buildings. The room is large and excellent for work with a great desk space. It also has a refrigerator. The bathroom was quite large, especially for a NY hotel. My only gripe, I couldn't get a wireless connection in my room and had to rent an ethernet cord--who carries those around these days?

The staff was extremely customer friendly and helpful. The room was quiet and clean. Some areas of the hotel and room were in need of some cosmetic repair. The elevator was very slow and the lighting throughout the hotel was too dim.

The Flatotel is located on 52nd Street between 6th and 7th avenue and is a close walk to both Central Park and Times Square. The location is perfect, very close to good shopping on 5th avenue as well such as Armani Exchange, Zara, Abercrombie...etc. The hotel was clean and the staff was very friendly. The only one negative was that the iron was not in good shape and could of damage some clothing is I had not been careful. The replacement iron was also not good. The third iron was better. Overall, the hotel is very nice. I would recommend!

The Flahotel is just blocks from Times Square. Room was spacious, bed was super comfortable. I am a smoker and took a smoking room. Normally they smell stale and yucky not here it was great. Will stay there again.

Checked up in to our room upon our slightly early arrival, and the staff was pleasant enough, but not first class. The common areas were not as clean as they needed to be (food spilled on the lobby floor was there for hours), and the Security Key Check desk by the elevators was never staffed, certainly a problem with a hotel smack in the middle of New York City. Anyone could have boarded the elevators at any time. The room itself was average, and needed updating and some sprucing up. Big, old TV, very noisy air conditioning (although nice and cold!). The space was clearly designed for Europeans who are accustomed to smaller spaces and bathrooms, for sure. It was a good price, but had drawbacks.

Great room and location. Only issue was that we requested non-smoking room and got a smoking room but they made sure it didn't smell. Great location and staff was awesome. Will definitely stay there again.
