General Description

George Hotel London is tucked away just north of Russell Square, on the edge of Bloomsbury in a classic Georgian town house complex built in 1794. The town houses of this neighborhood were once the homes of the wealthy but many are now converted to hotels and the George Hotel was formed as a result of the uniting of 3 of these buildings. It has the perfect location for a stay in central London - quiet and peaceful facing central gardens but within walking distance of the British Museum, Covent Garden, Soho and the West End, ideal for both theatres and shopping. If you prefer to use the tube, the hotel is only 2 stops from Oxford Circus and Covent Garden and only 3 stops from Leicester Square. The gardens in front of the hotel are private but the hotel has a key for guest access and use of the tennis courts (it also provides racquets and tennis balls). Guests are welcome to use the Internet Point in the lounge.

We had a family room for 4 on the top floor. The room was everything we needed but nothing special. We shared a bathroom and by 8am the shower was freezing. Breakfast was between 8 and 9.30am. If you want a breakfast be down for 8am or you will not get a table, as we found the first morning. 2nd morning we did at 8am and the food was very nice, clean and the service was good. As the saying goes you get what you pay for.

My check-in experience was pretty much standard for a small central London hotel, but the room experience was dismal. The bed matress was on it's last legs with stained bedding and the chairs were so dirty and damp-looking, that I didn't even want to put my dirty laundry on them. Overall, the room made some of the cheapest student accommodation I've ever seen look good. The missing wallpaper and mould above the kitchen hatch in the breakfast room added to the ambiance. If you do end up booking here. be sure that you pay attention as there are shared bathroom facilities. You could easily get frustrated in the morning if you end up queuing for the shower and you are in a hurry!

I was given a large and comfortable room. The bad bit was the bathroom, one of those plastic all in things and it had the most revolting smell although it seemed to be clean. The hotel otherwise was clean but a bit shabby, quite convenient for Euston and a few cheap restaurants around. The food was plentiful but not very good quality and I didn't bother to eat my bacon which looked like it had been boiled and tepid tinned tomatoes.

Stayed in spacious twin-bedded room. Furniture a bit creaky and not many coathangers. Comfortable beds, pleasant temperature in room - not too hot! Small bathroom with W/C and shower but perfectly adequate - however could do with a couple of hooks for hanging up towels/dressing gowns etc as only one small rail to put wet towels over. Great breakfast with friendly service, you can eat as much as you like. Staff were very nice and helpful - thank you.

not bad...for one nighti didnt realise i had booked a single room which had a SHARED BATHROOM, but to be honest, it was really cheap, in a really nice area, perfect for Euston and Kings Cross station and it was a lot better than i expected for only £49 a night, the room was small, and hotter than the sun but it was clean and the bathroom was also brnd new and clean, perfect for a cheap one night stay!

I would suggest to the hotel that they let anyone wishing to book know that there are three floors and NO lift. We were placed at the top of the hotel, and had I known I would haver requested a room lower down as we struggled each time with the number of stairs [5 flights some on very narrow stairways]. The bathroom was out of order on our floor which made keeping clean more of a bother, and there didn't seem to be any attempt to fix it while we were there. The food was fine and plenty of it at breakfast, however again I would say I would have let guests know that there was limiting seating and there could be a wait for breakfast, we fortunately weren't in a hurry so it didn't affect us personally.

The hotel was well placed and quiet. The rooms were very clean and the beds comfortable but the facilities were limited and the public areas, especially the stairs and corridors, were looking very tired indeed. I might stay again but felt that the prices for an ensuite room were high compared to others. Location was great though and the staff friendly enough. Get down for breakfast early or you will have to wait a while!

Not bad for the priceAt £68 for a twin room in Central London, you can't ask too much. What I got for the money was a room in the basement, no ensuite and a slow-draining sink. There was a constant sound of running water from somewhere outside, but if you closed your eyes you could almost imagine it to be a babbling mountain brook! On the plus-side, the room was clean, there was a small flat-screen TV with Freeview and the breakfast was excellent - a la carte full English. The shared shower and toilet was very small - even I at 5'8" could have banged my head on the ceiling if I'd jumped slightly, but it worked well and got me clean.

Hotel is very hot (temperature) - especially dining room which is also too small and you have to sit elbow-to-elbow with fellow guests. I went and had breakfast elsewhere. Whole place (apart from reception, of course) looks tired and could do with proper decoration rather than yet another coat of paint.
