The 4 Star AA Rosette Grand Hotel occupies pride of place on the Torbay seafront commanding majestic views over the bay and out to sea. Since being purchased by the Richardson Group in 2001 it has undergone a sympathetic restoration that has exposed its magnificent Victorian and Art Deco architectural characteristics. Our room was great and also the hotel and the breakfast. The only downer was that we were put in the corridor that needed some decoration........the paint was peeling off etc and there were stepladders around.......

Small service in a big hotel. Friendly enough and good support in the dining room but room service was sloppy in its delivery. If you know you have spilt the soup, tidy it up before you knock on my door. No bottled water in the room. Not a complaint but the corridors stank overpoweringly of new paint but the room was OK. Could not turn the shower off properly.

The hotel was a very nice overlooking the sea front. The food was good as was the facilities. The staff were very friendly and helpful for such a large hotel.We did have two issues as it is classed as a 4* hotel and expensive:We were a little disapointed by the view. Although we did not pay for a sea view our view was of a large brick wall - suggest you request a side room. The second problem was the heat in the room.Maybe they need to keep the temp high but we had all the windows open and fan on in October. These two points did not stop us enjoying our stay but would have made the stay just a little better.if money is not an issue I would recommend a sea view with balcony.

hotel excellent value for money however no internet in room television a bit on the small side and pillows too hard however lovely hotel and the breakfast was outstanding as was the customer service.

I felt that the food in the A la Carte resturant was quite old fashioned and didn't make the most of the fresh fish / seafood at hand and that the waiting staff were being 'too busy' to be efficient - for example our starters arrived before the wine / water. The pan seared chicken with an olive oil crushed potatos left a greasey bitter after taste - although the chicken was cooked well.A great location though, and the hotel in general was good value for money.
