I had a dual purpose for my stay; work and pleasure. My wife and baby daughter joined me for the weekend, and I was working then working in Madrid for a couple of days. The location of this hotel was a good compromise. It is close to the shops on Serrano and Catalanna, and also on the right side of Madrid for easy access to the airport (15-20 mins) and the HQ's (banks, telco's etc). The hotel is in a quiet neighbourhood surrounded by beautiful embassies. It is 5 minutes walk to the nearest El Corte Inglis and about 10 minutes walk to the Park Retiro. The hotel has a nice finish and staff were very accomodating. We booked a standard room and requested a double bed. We got a twin with the beds pushed togther because they were full. We changed rooms the next day. Both rooms had a dodgy shower valve (basically it alternates between boiling hot, ok, and then cold). The trickis not to have it on full apparently which enables the valve to correctly regulate the temperature. Overall this is a good hotel. Looks much more modern than 1997 as stated on the web site. Very clean, very comfortable.

I would comment that in Madrid there is a lower expectation of a 4 star hotel - ie in other parts of the world most 4* hotels would be considered as a 5* in Madrid. That said it is on par with many 4* hotels in Madrid however I would generally say it was at a 3* level. The accomodation was confortable and covered all basic needs and amenities. The only critiscism I would have is that I requested a double bed and was allocated twins which could not be changed as the hotel was fully booked. The food was average and rather expensive for the quality - again nothing to be suprised about in Madrid. Overpriced in terms of value for money and when travelling to Madrid if you prefer quality over convenience - ie being in the centre of town, then I would choose something of better quality not in the city centre and get cabs in and out of town - you'll still end up paying less. The metro is also excellent value for money. If you have a choice go for the newer properties or get a deal on the more exclusive ones... I guess it all depends on your previous experience of hotels.

This is a first class hotel; good in all respects. I like that it was very close to the METRO station and very accessible. There are restaurants close by. Taxis are easily available, The hotel staff were fabulous.
