Excellent room for the money. The staff was real nice too. I brought my two year old grandson with us and the staff doated on him. We were very confortable we ate outside the hotel at a BBQ place called "JIM and Nicks" ...excellent. We did not have to use the valet parking. We used the parking garage next door for $4 dollars. The room was so very nicely decorated I did not fell like I was in a hotel. Lots of pillows on the bed.

This Hotel is awesome. If you can get the King Suite. The colors and decor give it a very chic appearance. The central location is very nice. The decor of the entire hotel is very nice and have bohemian yet chic atmosphere. The view of the downtown area at night is beautiful and the central location makes getting around very easy. The down side is parking. I don't think as a Hotel Guest i should be expected to pay $18 a day to have valet parking by the Hotel. There is parking along the streets at the meters which depending on the time of day or evening may be free. However, because of the nightlife in the area parking on the weekends can be difficult. There is a garage for $4 a day which isn't bad. But most hotels provide guest parking for their guests at no cost or at a more reasonable rate than what the Highlands charges. My stay was wonderful, the people were great. But hotel parking cost is atrocious.

Great little hotel. Quite cute and sassy. Excellent for a getaway for the weekend. Would definitely stay there again for a quick getaway. And by the way loved being in the entertainment district. It was definitely a change of scenery.

The parking garage is next door to the hotel, and without a room key you have to go all the way around the block to the front door, unless you're willing to pay for the valet parking. Since it was raining hard this was a real pain. The thermostat in the room was set on 50F and the room was like an icebox. Other than that we had a great stay and I would highly recommend this hotel for a fun weekend or longer. There are plenty of good restaurants and bars within a block of the hotel so once we got parked we didn't use the car for 2 days.

The hotel was beautifully decorated, both our room and the public places. Terrific attention to detail. We loved this hotel. It is absolutely charming, very boutiquey! It is located in a delightful neighborhood adjacent to UAB and the medical center with quaint restaurants and diners. Our room was clean and beautifully decorated. It had great linens, towels and robes for the guests. There was a flat screen TV and a clock radio with a docking station for an ipod. The complimentary breakfast was better than average and included a cappuccino machine. An attendant was always available to help with the service in the breakfast room. The hotel felt very European.

The hotel was in the heart of the entertainment. The rooms were smaller than I would like. Upscale, modern hotel with great, courteous, friendly staff and a funky martini bar. Generous expanded continental breakfast!

As stated in the title, I really liked the location and staff. I did have an ongoing problem with the plumbing in the shower, in which my first two days were spent taking scalding hot showers, the last two talking freezing cold showers. The problem was finally fixed by changing a relic of an adapter in the shower plumbing. The other thing that really bothers me is the high rate charge for parking. In all fairness, I have seen this in one other Birmingham hotel, but, come on...$18 per night..when a hotel, in my mind, should have parking..... That being said, I would stay in this hotel again....complain about the parking charge though..

Staff exhibited a great deal of pride and ownership. Great decor. Location. I'm not sure I would want to explore the area on foot. Other than the location I would rate it as exceptional.

The room was comfortable and well-arranged and clean. The breakfast was exceptionally good. There was more traffic noise late at night than we are used to. The staff was helpful and courteous, especially at the breakfast buffet, which was excellent and constantly replenished. The room was pleasant and comfortable, with a very nice bed, and we enjoyed the view as well.

"From the gentleman driving the shuttle who picked me up at the airport to the staff checking me in, EVERYONE was friendly! I was early and check-in wasn't even questioned. I had to check out late, and that wasn't a problem. The rooms are very clean. The location is fantastic. This is the only hotel I want to book when I visit my son at UAB. It's terrific and at such a great price!"

The Hotel Highland was wonderful. Located in a very eclectic part of Birmingham, it was very easy to walk (about a half a block) to some wonderful restaurants. The staff was friendly and very insightful on the area. The rooms are very nice and even has an ipod alarm clock and a flat screen tv. The only negative i can saw about the hotel is there wasn't a pool (or at least we couldn't find it) But the fitness room and easy parking on the back side of the hotel was easy in-and-out with just your room key. Overall, great hotel, great staff, and great location. A must stay if ever in Birmingham!

I come here twice a year for 8-10 days at a time. I began when the Pickwick was new, now I come back to The Highland, and choose nowhere else. The staff is wonderful to me and do everything they can to make my stay better each time.

We arrived at 12:30am on a Sunday morning and could not believe the activity going on outside this hotel. This was a big party area and there was no parking on the street. We did the valet parking. It was like a different world when you went in. BEAUTIFUL!! The staff was wonderful and our room was so nice. The entire hotel was art deco from the 1920's. Very different and very nice. Just seemed out of place. The beds were very comfortable. Neat hotel!!

Beautiful & modern, the Hotel Highland is right in the heart of the vibrant Five Points neighborhood in Birmingham. While the hotel doesn't offer in-room dining, the friendly staff can guide you to one of many excellent restaurants within walking distance. Great for business travel...

I have been here 5 different times, they totally changed everything that was the Pickwick, complete re-do, new management, new employees. New rooms, new everything. I will not stay anywhere else in Birmingham. This is the best of the best!

when I saw this place on Orbitz, I was okay. It's not costly, it wont look like the pictures on their site. But WOW! I was really glad I was wrong. This is really a great place. I've stayed at the areas "flag-flying" hotels, tried all the chains. But I wont again, this is my only place in Birmingham.

Convenient location. Parking was difficult to find. We were graciously upgraded to a much nicer room. It was a beautiful place and located right where we needed to be, near the UAB Medical district.

Location was great and room was above average. Main light in bathroom was out and the hot water was sub-par! Hotel was unique and very enjoyable stay, except for the fact that the bathroom light was out and the hot water almost went to nothing while taking a shower. Convenience was great, with restaurants within walking distance and easy access to public parking.

Comfy bed, nice linens and bath products. Everything looks new at this hotel. It has arty, modern and colorful decor. The beds were comfy, the linens and bath products were very nice. The complimentary Wall Street Journal and lobby copies of the Birmingham entertainment magazine were nice touches. I got a great deal through Priceline and you can't beat the Five Points location.

Hotel Highland at Five Points was a very stylish boutique-type hotel. The decor was sophisticated, modern art-deco. The furnishings were very comfortable. The bathroom was great - shower, towels and the stuff they give you for free. The staff at check-in, the lobby bar, and others were warm and helpful. The area is near several good restaurants, a Starbucks and bookstore. I was delighted with the whole experience, since I like urban hotels.
