The hotel restaurant is famous locally for uncomplicated menus with home-made puddings a house specialty. City break in YorkGood location, excellent food and friendly staff. Room a bit dated and basic but clean and comfortable. Ideal for a short break. Good parking space.

The hotel is a former Victorian residence which I would guess was converted into a hotel in the 1960's. The original house was quite impressive with high ceilings etc, but in much need of redecoration. An extension has been built to the rear of the property, which is where our room was located. When you went into the room there was a heavy smell of room freshener, which was supposed to disguise the damp smell which pervaded the room. The shower and toilet were separate and were very small with only a shower curtain between the bedroom and the shower/sink area. The bed was of very poor quality and smelt musty. We would have moved immediately but York Races were on at the time, so all hotels full. Unless you want a seriously budget hotel then give it a miss.
