The Holiday Inn Midtown at 57th Street was comfortable and affordable, large enough for a family of four. Only a short walk from Columbus Circle and Times Square, I liked the central location that put us right in the center of the city, with a good selection of very reasonable restaurants, delis, and diners nearby. The roof top swimming pool was a hit with the kids, and I appreciated the ample closet space and large desk and chair. This hotel is good choice if you're looking for a great location and ample room at an affordable price for basic accommodations.

Convenient location. The free breakfast we purchased cost us $28.00. They did not honor the terms of our reservation. The Holiday Inn is an a great location if you are hoping to explore the West Side and Central Park. It is also within walking distance of great restaurants in Hell's Kitchen and proximate to Times Square, should you want to torture yourself there. The hotel is loud thin doors, thin walls so be prepared for that particular challenge. However, the rooms are comfortable, so if you do fall asleep, you will likely stay that way. Beware the breakfast deal. We bought a package with breakfast included but the hotel refused to honor it. Alas, only after we had eaten our $10 bowls of oatmeal.

The room was larger than expected for its location. The hotel housekeeping staff was awesome and very helpful. The air conditioning was not cool enough for the weather conditions at the time we were there. The bell staff and housekeeping staff were the best assets.

Good hotel but found the desk staff very aloof, unfriendly. They did their jobs but it seems that they had to rather than wanted to. All had a touch of arrogance. This was a constant theme ove the 5 days I spent there. On the other hand, found the house keeping staff very friendly.

The doormen were very nice and the room service menu was budget priced. The concierge was rather imperious instead of being friendly and helpful. First of all this was just a spur of the moment spring break trip for us. After reading the reviews I thought this maybe a nice place to stay with my two older teen aged children due to its proximity to times square etc. Upon arriving I realized the reviews were all written by people who have never been to NYC before. It was over priced, beds were uncomfortable, the room was stifling hot--couldn't control the thermostat.

Rarely do we get to stay in a decent hotel while in NYC but the prices were great. Room was clean and comfortable, staff friendly and responsive. We were even able to get a room upgrade without increase in price. The location was great. We would definitely stay again.

This hotel was a disaster from the beginning. I thought the * rate was great but I quickly learned that paying an additional * for a hotel with a more defined reputation would have been the wise thing to do. There was a nice long line in the lobby just for checking in, because there was only one attendant and no other hotel staff to be seen so people with general concerns were waiting in line. The room was a disaster, did not seem clean at all! Water stains on the ceiling, old TV, lumpy pillows, no tea provided for the room either, and upon arrival the room was freeezing! We had a reservation so they could have left the heat on for our arrival. The room service was terrible! They told me the pancakes were made fresh, but nope, definitely pre-frozen and terrible coffee. We needed a wake up call for noon and they never called! So we proceeded to miss our afternoon flight and since the next flight was not until the next day, they did not even offer to comp the room!! I stayed at a Sheraton in NJ closer to the airport last year and they missed my wake up call but at least they did not ask me to pay for the second night! The room was totally not worth it, the staff made the experience even worse! Holiday Inn is known as a low-grade, stock hotel but I just figured it could not be this bad! But it was, I will never stay at a low-grade hotel again, trust me it is sooo worth the extra * to stay at a boutique or 4 star hotel such as the Palace, or the Peninsula!

Great location. No in-room safe, at least not in our room, and little to offer for storing valuables (like a laptop) at the front desk. Food in dining room - skip it and go out. Room was fine, in good shape. Heater works great and was quick to warm up the room.

Hotel was located near everything and that was great. The Room was ok but the Air Condition was not working properly and that was not good because it was about 90 + degree and very humid...so :-((. At the Restaurant for Breakfast, no one ask if we wanted Juice, it was served anyway and later we had to pay $ for 5 Juicesit. Did not like that!!!!

The room was larger than expected for the price. Few lights operated on switches, so the room was very dark upon entry every time. The spacious, clean room is definitely worth the money. Security was never an issue (as each guest must present a room key to gain access to the hotel from midnight to 6 a.m.), so overall it was a great experience!

My teenage children and I spent 24 hours in NYC, and took in some Broadway plays, Central Park, and good food. Of course, Virgin records was included on the tour. Holiday Inn Midtown was in a great location that did not break the bank (unlike most of the other NYC activities.) It was an easy walk to Times Square, Central Park, and the plays. The hotel staff were accommodating (we checked our bags after check out while we went to a matin?e before leaving the following evening). A nice family hotel.

This was our first time to stay overnight in New York City, and I would recommend this hotel to anyone I know who is traveling there. My husband and kids were with me, and they enjoyed the outdoor pool (very hard to find in NYC). The stff was helpful, and the location was great (only a few blocks to Central Park and the Columbus Circle subway). The room was clean (the carpet in our room was a bit faded, but I have nothing else to complain of). Be advised that parking is not included in the room rate, but is extra (that was a bit of a surprise). Have a great trip to NYC!

Location, size of room. No car access in parking for duration of stay. Outdoor pool is accessible for the summer months only. Helpful staff at the tour desk. Make sure to leave your credit card # at front dest at check-in, necessary to make phone calls. The little restaurant downstairs was nice to get a coffee first thing in the morning.

Very satisfied with the hotel. Location was excellent, service was good and staff was courteous. Room was clean (slight odor in bathroom) and room service efficient. We got the room we requested which was a double occupancy smoking-room. A little noisy due to a high school located right outside our room and street traffic but overall not a problem. Would have no problem staying there again. Don't know about the other rooms, but I would recommend the hotel install heavier drapes to cover the window so that the morning light does not wake customers too early and for privacy.

The room was small and the bathroom tiny. It was so small the toilet had to be installed at an angle so the bathroom door would close. But the main reason I would never stay there again was the air conditioning, or lack thereof. The room was a sauna. When I requested a new room I was told that the system was a one way system. Meaning it can do heat or cool air but not both at the same time and it takes the system a few days to change over. We of course were caught in the middle, if they are to be believed. If this is true then this antiquated hotel needs an major upgrade. On a positive note, I did like the convenience of the 24 hour parking garage right next door and hotel parking validation. It cost $23 from 3pm to 9am the following day ( a bargain in NYC). I also liked the proximity to the West Side highway (so we could get the heck away from the place ASAP).

We had two rooms in this hotel. Both were bad. Mold on the bathroom ceiling and in the air conditioning unit. Dust bunnies literally pouring out of the bathroom vent. No matter what temperature you set the air conditioner, the temperature never changed....always very warm. Not good for hot August days. The pool was fine, but it closed at 6:00 p.m., and didn't open until 10:00 a.m., so we were never able to use it when we would want.....after touring the city. Very disappointing. I would never stay at this hotel again.

This was our first trip to New York City. We had a wonderful time. The motel has a great location. The bus and subway systems are easy to figure out and are conveniently accessible from the motel. There are several types of eating establishments within a block or two; authentic smaller places and larger restaurants, too. We spent time in each area of the island and saw many attractions while we were there so we were very tired by the time we returned to the motel. It is a quiet area so we liked that. The staff was helpful with directions and tips on attractions. We would definately stay at this motel again.

The location of the hotel was perfect. Able to catch a play with the kids, and bring them out to central park in the morning. The automatic lights, not a clear way to override the automatic lights. This hotel was a wonderful experience with the our children. The location of it from the theater district was perfect. A nice stroll to the Gershwin, to some wonderful restaurants (the red diner was perfect with older kids and right on the way to the theater.) The hotel is located right on Central Park, so nice to take advantage of that open space.

My main concern was the water pressure in the shower. I had read other surveys that talked about the pressure being low and not adequate for a good shower, that was not the case here. Also, I had heard the rooms were very small, the rooms had plenty of space. The price was very reasonable. I will sstay at this hotel again.

The walk from the hotel to Time Square and Central Park was quick. The room smelled like a locker room and the shower had large amounts of mold and there were ants in the bathroom. The hotel is conveniently located and the lobby, bar and restaurant are clean and attractive. But, the room was border line gross. Immediately upon entering the aroma of a football locker room hits you. Then when you go into the bathroom you see the ants on the floor and the mold in the shower.

Walking distance to Time Square. Morning Spanish accent staff, there were no refrigeration nor microwave in the room, these accommodations should have been provided. The evening staff at check-in was friendly and professional. But the morning staff with that Spanish speaking accent, heavy-set female was not professional. She was obnoxious! She was asked to lower her voice while discussing information with me, because I value confidentiality even if I'm discussing Dr.Suess, "The Cat In The Hat." But she didn't get it. The physical structure has seen better days, but is still basically well appointed with beautiful glass tile accents in the bath (which also needed regrouting) for example. The sink had been updated with a granite top and new fixture, but the bathroom ventilation system was original, and let in cigarette smoke from all the adjoining bathrooms. Why is it that New Yorkers believe that "non-smoking" means "except in the bathroom"? ;) Yet the staff was courteous, and the concierge was knowledgeable and helpful. The proximity to 9th Avenue's wealth of small restaurants and easy access to other areas makes the $*** price reasonable "in context". Unfortunately during my stay, the neighboring room held four college age folks who were incredibly loud, cheering and commenting on the sports game they turned up to full volume at 3AM. This highlighted the fact that the walls were rather on the thin side, at least until I discussed it with them. In any other location than Manhattan, I would have felt that this was NOT a good value, but again in context, the room was clean, the bed comfortable, etc. and it was OK. Be aware that wifi and similar amenities come only with a charge in this nickel-and-dime you to death environment.

I brought my daughter up for the School of American Ballet, and I cannot say enough good things about the staff. They were always there to help. The front desk and concierge were both wonderful and a huge help. It was my first trip to New York and they made sure I found my way around. And the location was perfect. We were able to actually walk to Lincoln Center to check my daughter in for the summer. We only had breakfast there in the morning, but it was definitely reasonably priced and the food and service were both great. I definitely know where to stay the next time I go to New York. Luckily I have been to NY many times and was able to figure it out myself. The rest of the staff was friendly. The rooms were clean and the location is fine. The price we paid was so reasonable I was expecting a bare-bones facility. Instead, the lobby was bright and spotless, the staff was warm and professional, and the room was spacious, clean and best of all, quiet. There was a rooftop pool, too, which thrilled my son. All this for a location in Midtown! You'll have my business every time I come to NYC.

This wasnt a bad place at all, what you would expect from a Holiday Inn anywhere. The room size was wonderful, plenty of space to move around. Decent king size bed, nothing special but it wasnt bad either. pillows were soft and hurt neck at first but you can request assorted styles from housekeeping so that problem was easily solved. the lobby was constantly filled with people as well, so obviously business wasnt hurting, which is a good sign. as for the noise, its close to impossible not to have noise at a NYC hotel, so in comparison it wasnt bad at all. only downfalls: no fridge or microwave, but, for $273 for 2 nights it didnt really make a huge difference to me. May be back in the future!

Overall it was expensive, however, considering it is New York City it was as good a price as you can get, with normal sized rooms (not like other typically small NYC rooms). Location was not great, but ok. I would stay there again.

The large lobby with seating for meeting friends; the cost was pretty amazing for the hotel and location; nice, clean crib for the baby - no cost. We were very pleased, but would have liked to have a fridge and microwave in the room. We were very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the hotel, the location and cost. The parking service was convenient, the spacious lobby with seating for meeting friends was a plus. The room was large and clean, the beds comfortable, the view of the city beautiful. They provided a clean crib for the baby at no additional cost. The staff was helpful and friendly. We would definitely stay there again and recommend it to others.

I found this to be very friendly and excellent service. The mattress could have been a little firmer due to my back problem, but all in all ok. I would definitely stay here again, in fact my next trip in to Ny- midtown I plan on staying here. This hotel was centrally located for all we had to do. The only bad thing was the internet service it had an icon to get your airline boarding passes,(it cost me 4.00) but after you put your money in you couldn't get any airline boarding passes because it is not a secure network. So you lost out on the $$ you put in the computer. I saw other people do the same but to no availble, it just takes your money with no results.

Very friendly staff, helpful concierge, nice pool, clean room. Bathroom was a little small. This was a great hotel to bring the family to. It was only 2 blocks from the Subway and convenient to many locations by walking. The hotel staff was very friendly and happy to answer many questions about my first trip to New York. The concierge told us about a great little restaurant that was a huge hit with the whole family and was only $38 for 4 people! Nice roof top pool for a mid-day getaway with a small pool side bar. The room service food was also very good and reasonably priced.

This Holiday Inn was a great value for New York City. Our family of 5 was in the City for 2 days and the location was very convenient - a little off the main drag, but not too far and still a very comfortable walking distance from 5th Avenue and other Mid-town attractions. It was nice not to be on a main avenue. There is a subway station down the block and Columbus Circle and Central Park are close by. The rooms were very clean and neat and a comfortable size. We only had breakfast at the hotel, but the service was very good and the food was too. Comfortable and sufficient. I would stay here again.

The location was not bad if you dont want to be in the middle of crazy times square. The rooms are good sized and clean but nothing special as it is just a Holiday Inn. The bell service was decent upon arrival but upon departure, we waited for 30 minutes at which point we had to lug our bags down on our own. We dont mind and usually carry our own luggage; however, at this particular hotel, the elevator is tiny and makes it tough to get all your luggage in one shot. The food was not good at the hotel bar or restaraunt nor was room service. The food arrived cold after a 45 minute wait for room service. On top of everything else, 15% gratuity was added to everything whether you were buying a single beer from the bar or a whole order, no matter how many people were with you. Overall this was a below average stay for us and we have enjoyed staying in the busier areas of nyc alot more in the past.

Spacious room. Only found one good restaurant within walking distance. Good hotel, very spacious room. Unfortunately, upon checking in (5/12/07) we were told the air conditioning throughout the hotel was out and would not be fixed for quite awhile; they were having problems getting a license to bring in a heavy-lift crane. Less than 50 degree outside temperature in early May, but the hotel switches from heat to air conditioning on May 1, no matter what, so there was only cold air blowing into the room. We were very pleased with the location and overall the rooms were average but clean and adequate. The staff was nice and cordial but not as informed about the local area as I would have liked. We were looking for a show one day and the concierge highly recommedned a "family show" adn dinner package. The dinner was great, but the show called Gazillion Bubbles was a ridiculous experience my teens nicknamed "Broadway Barney", appropriate only for very young children. I had to assume the concierge was getting a kickback or had a friend in it. Also the wireless internet did not work most of the time and they did not seem to know who to call about it. Otherwise I would stay there again and be glad to pay the price for the 2 adjoining rooms we had!

During our stay at The Holiday Inn in New York City, we had a good time and thought the room was nice. We liked our view and it was only a few blocks from the west side highway. That made it very convienent to get into and out of the city. Even though the hotel appeared a bit dated, it was under renovation. It was covered in scaffolding, and that interfeared with the appearance and made it inconvienent for walking. On the corner of 56th Street and 9th Ave. there were three very good italian restaurants. Colombus Circle and Central Park were a few short blocks away, and we really liked that. On the contrary, it was a farther walk than we would have liked to the theater district. Overall, our New York City experience was very good! :)

The bad reviews must be from people who spend a lot of time in the room or expect white glove service and affordable prices. The room was very clean, the bed was comfy the hotel staff was friendly, the location was great, and yes the bathroom was smaller but not excessively so. The room was much larger than the last hotel I stayed in in NYC that was more expensive. My only complaint would be that I couldn't get the room cooled off enough - but I was in NYC to enjoy the city - so we were only in the room to change clothes, bathe and sleep! I didn't even bother calling the front desk about it! If you're looking for a well located, decent room and a nice bar/lounge, go here you won't be disappointed. If you're looking for 5 star pampering, go elsewhere! I would definitely stay here again.

The bathroom had a separate vanity area, etc. The beds and pillows slept well and the air conditioning worked great. The hotel was very quiet and the price was the best that we could find in NYC. We would stay there again.

Service was excellent...Responded to questions authentically. If the person did not have the immediate answer they would find out from the appropriate person not just give you a bogus answer to get rid of you. Room service was impressively on time...that is meal was delivered when promised. Food is also excellent and prepared as requested.

Beautiful hotel, room and priced right. Close to subways. We were very pleased with the Holiday Inn on 57th Ave. Beautiful lobby, restrooms and rooms with all amenities, including soda and ice machines. Great, safe location near subways. Would definitely recommend and will stay there again. Price was very reasonable.

While the location of the Holiday Inn Midtown was close enough to Times Square and Central Park without the inflated prices that come with actual "Times Square hotels", and "Central Park hotels", the fact that the A/C never cooled the room down to below the mid to upper 70's detracted greatly from our enjoyment of the accomodations. The staff--top to bottom--was cordial and helpful, although no remedy for the poor-performing room A/C was offered. I suppose that these accomodations would be excellent during the very cool and cold times of the year, but the fact that the actual temperature during our 4-day, 3-night stay never got above 85 degrees makes me wonder how UNcomfortable the same room--on the 5th floor--would be during very warm, mid and late summer scorching temps. Decent restaurants within a 10-minute walk, and lots of available taxis. A closer subway stop would complete the convenience aspect of this hotel. We never dined at the hotel restaurants, nor did we use the on-site pool or fitness center, so I cannot fairly comment about them.

I feel it was a great value. Good location, rooms were not typically cramped, and clean. The decor was somewhat aged, but overall, there was nothing to complain about., free internet access was great as was the hotel overall. I have to say for a hotel in midtown Manhattan at that price I could not go wrong. The room was spacious and clean, concierge was informative and helpful, and the location was great. I would highly recommend this hotel for someone looking for a safe, clean, quiet place to stay while taking in the sites of the city.

Very convenient location for our stay. However, I travelled with 3 teens and had reserved a room with two beds, and upon check-in all that was available was a king size bed - this despite a confirmation call earlier in the day. Did not honor the breakfast value - offered us breakfast coupons for a free bagel or muffin. Definitely proof that you get what you pay for, and since this was paid, I felt little recourse. We slept and left in the morning, so it served our very basic needs and thats it.

The location was very good. Very unfriendly staff, foul language, bad attitude. Not the Holiday Inn I'm used to. Made my New York experience a bad one. Not sure I want to return to New York. I lived there in the 70's for 9 years. Some very nice people in the city. Not at the Holiday Inn.

great location ! Superbe basis for visiting uptown, midtown Manhattan! With the New York Pass all attractions can be done by foot. Housekeeping could be better : sometimes the room wasn't done even late in the afternoon, which is not very pleasant when returning from a long sightseeing tour and not having clean/dry towels. Although the pools opens only end of May, they opened it already end of April due to the abnormal warm temperature. Very nice to be swimming amidst the skyscrapers.

My daughter and I recetly had an opportunity to stay at the Holiday Inn on 57th Street in Midtown Manhattan. We found the room very beautiful and comfortable. It had everything we needed and more, It was in an ideal location, very close to Central Park and not too far from tourist attractions. The pool was in a unique rooftop location where you can look down on some of the surrounding skyscrapers. The staff was very helpful and friendly. We would definitely stay here again for not only the amenities, but the courteous service.

Very happy with our stay here. Clean comfortable spacious rooms. Beds were comfortable and bathrooms were small but updated and clean. Staff was friendly and helpful. The location was good, close enough to Central park, Times square and yet just off the beaten path of congestion. I would recommend to stay here if you do not want to stay right in times square. We did not use the work out facilities or dine here.

Convient location but not the kind of spot you want to hang out at. Everything was ala 1960's-- not trendy but old and worn. High 60's outside and high 70's in the room. A/C not on for the season (mid-April). Two night stay and had to change rooms three times -- ask for non-smoker with two beds and got smoker with king. Moved to another room next day -- nothing else available. No sooner than my head kit the pillow in next room next day than they moved me again. Free food coupons to appease me but food was terrible.
