General Description

When you arrive, you ring the front door bell, sign in, and are handed your bedroom and front door key. After that the house is yours to come and go as you please. At Holmwood House, all the rooms are different, both in decoration and size, and all have their own bathroom or shower room. There are many extra touches in addition to color television, coffee and tea making facilities, radio-alarm clock, hairdryer and direct dial telephone. We also offer family suites for up to six people and air conditioning in some rooms. Breakfast is our specialty: we offer a choice of fruit juices, grapefruit segments and prunes, cereals, including our special muesli (full of fruit and nuts); followed by a wide selection, including full English breakfast, Craster kippers, fruit platter, vegetarian breakfast, hot croissants and toast. We do our best to meet special needs - vegan, celiac, diabetes etc - let us know your requirements. To help your digestion we will soothe you with gentle classical music. On the ground floor we have a comfortable sitting room in which to relax and browse amongst the books and information about York and the surrounding areas. By popular demand the hotel as a whole is non-smoking. We now have a Gold Award for offering a smoke free environment. For those who find stairs difficult we have three rooms at ground level and one at garden level.

This was a wonderfully friendly hotel, with lovely clean and tidy rooms and good food. Easy walk into York and lots of parking space to leave the car.One small problem, we were allocated room 11 which was up several steep flights of stairs. Not good with arthritis!!

A good location about 15 mins walk from the city. We left the car at the hotel and walked. Also a frequent bus service to/from the station and city stopping outside if required. Room and particularly the bathroom were good and quiet being at the back of the house. Stairs to the upper floors might be a bit difficult to negotiate by less able bodied guests but help with cases etc is readily offered.

Excellent appraochability and customer serviceQood quality accommodation and friendly service. Issue with water pump / low hot water pressure was rectified very quickly and politely.

Not a hotelThis is an adequate Bed and Breakfast on the outskirts of York. It is not a hotel therefore facilities are limited. Plesant enough, clean and does have some parking which in York is a bonus, not really a good choice if you need hotel facilities such as a bar, food etc. As an aside if you stay on a wednesday and like your music the pub behind, The Locomotive had some excellent free music

The hotel was easy to find and not far from town centre.Room was lovely and spacious(especially the twin spa bath!).Breakfast lovely and hosts very friendly.Would go back again with no hesitation.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Holmwood House. We were initially dissapointed about the quality of room but after changing rooms the next day we did not have a single complaint. Staff were very friendly, food was excellent and the stay was an extremely pleasant one. If you avoid room 9 this is an excellent hotel and we have already recommended it to friends. For a short break in the lovely city of York this hotel was superb. We will definately be back.

We were upgraded on arrival due to the hotel not being full. Our room was beautiful and exceeded our expectation. The hotel was a 10 minute walk outside the city center. The staff at the hotel were very friendly. There was a car park at the rear which proved to be very useful because there were limited spaces outside the front of the hotel. I would recommend this hotel.

Was very clean, and very quiet - a good nights sleep. I chose to stay here as got fed up of noisy generators, and delivery vans all hours of the night at larger hotels - and it did make a pleasant change. Great internet access so was able to do some work too. Recommended.

Our room was large with a nice bathroom and had excellent views of York, staff were friendly and we will stay here again when we return to York.
