General Description

Along the streets leading to the Prater there once were inns where the coachmen could take a rest with their horses. A modern hotel business has emerged from such inns with its old arched vaults intact. The location is central: it is less than a 15 minutes' walk from St. Steven's Square to Praterstern. Also the underground and suburban rail line stations are only a few meters away. The Prater is practically in front of your door - a paradise for nature lovers, cyclists and joggers and a must for fans of fun parks. The rooms are functional but stylishly decorated and have a bath or shower and toilet, hairdryers, satellite television and a connection for laptops. We offer a sumptuous breakfast buffet in our restaurant. When you come by car the hotel can comfortably be reached using the motorway exit Prater Zentrum and the hotel has its own parking facilities for you comfort and security. Those arriving at the airport can reach us by suburban rail line at the stop called Bahnhof Wien Nord, where also the underground station Praterstern is located in the vicinity of the hotel there is the Vienna International Fair, Austria Centre, the Prater and the Johann Strauss Museum. Take advantage of either our wireless internet access (with your own laptop or PDA) in our lobby or use the internet-surf-station. In our E-Lounge you can use the Internet without attaching any cables.

I used this hotel for a short break and chose it in haste. It turned out to be a good choice. It was perhaps the easiest hotel to find I've ever stayed in - it is clearly visible from the S-Bahn train from the airport as you approach Südbahnhof station (also confusingly known as Praterstern station). This location is one its main strengths - Praterstern has S-Bahn, U-Bahn, buses and trams. The U-Bahn Line 1 station is only 3 stops away from Stephansplatz - the very centre of town. This location could in theory also have been its main weakness, since it is sandwiched between the railway line and a busy divided thoroughfare, but in practice I did not find the location particularly noisy because Vienna goes to bed early for a capital city. The room was clean and more than adequate, the bathroom and shower were spacious enough, the beds were comfortable, and everything that should have worked did work. Only the lift was substandard, being small, slow and arthritic, with a disturbing bounce just before it set off. My only other criticism of the facilities is that in spite of a plethora of TV channels, no languages other than German were represented; even many small country hotels do better than this, and in an international city I don't think this is good enough these days. Hard wired Internet is available in the rooms (at a price, of course). The front desk staff were generally courteous, helpful and knowledgeable. There was a limited cooked breakfast of scrambled egg and small pieces of frankfurter one day, bacon the next included in the buffet ; the buffet was varied with a particularly nice touch of fresh cheese, both Brie and Gruyère (or a close equivalent). Overall a good choice for a simple, adequate hotel just 5 minutes from a transport hub; with CNN or BBC World and a more confidence-inducing lift it would have been outstanding. On second thoughts, given the amazingly low price I paid, I suppose it WAS outstanding even with these minor deficiencies. Highly recom

Hotel location is very good - only 15 min walk by beautiful river waterfront, and you are in the center of the town. Car owners: please be careful on the parking place, it's quite small and chances of scratching your cars are very high. Hotel is clean and cosy, but small repair would be useful. Breakfast was good.

The best thing about this hotel was its location to transport links, the U-Bahn was only 5 minute walk and you could get a direct train to the airport, also able to get a tram (which is an excellent way to see the sights of Vienna) from the street the hotel is located on, easy and beautiful walk into the city centre along the riverbank. Staff were friendly enough, hotel was clean, beds were very comfortable, bedroom/bathroom did need some updating, shower powerful with plenty of hot water, buffet breakfast good, cooked breakfast limited. Was irritated that no kettle for hot drinks in the bedroom however hot drinks from a machine in the reception area could be bought. Hotel rooms could do with some soundproofing as trains and other guests could be heard from our room although this wasnt annoying to me. All in all good value for money but stick to the stairs!

The hotel looks nice enough in the lobby. Staff were ok - not too friendly but not rude either (very viennese characteristic). Old hotel, refurbished probably couple years ago but might need a face lift but thats my personal opinion. I didnt think my executive double bedroom deserves its name. Looked just like a regular double bedroom. Although it was spacious, very clean and the bathroom was very large and quite opulent. Would have liked to have had tea/ coffee making facilities. My room was facing the road, and so was noisy, hardly slept. No air-conditioning, was quite warm in April so we had to leave the windows open, which made it noisier. However, the furniture and bedding are top class.Breakfast was tasty and quite good spread from 7am-10am with friendly staff and a nice garden at the back to enjoy the weather. Could check our emails for Euro2 for half hour. Conveniently about 10-15 mins across the river from Stephanplatz and stone's throw away from the Wien-Nord/ Praterstern Ubahn. Great for those wanting to attend conferences or in Vienna for a quick stop as it has easy access to/from VIC or airport.Overall quite reasonable, although I am a bit fussy so was expecting something nicer for the price. I am also a student attending a conference so budget was priority. Moved to a rented apartment slightly out of town.
