I booked a double room for 3 nights and upon arriving at this dreadfull hotel, they gave me a twin room. I tried to get them to give me a double, which was not only clearly stated on my paperwork, it was also VERY clear on the hotels paperwork from laterooms. The staff were rude and obnoxious. They maintained firstly that I had booked a twin room and even had the nerve to say that it didn't matter as long as two people could stay in the room. After much arguing, which I really didn't need after a long drive from the airport at 2300, they said that they didn't have anymore doubles left, they were all gone. I didn't have much choice but to stay in the twin they were offering until the next day when I could speak to the manager... The manager had pretty much the same attitude. I was then given probably the worst double room I have ever stayed in. It's size barely coped with the double bed. It was as basic as you could possibly get... I was not offered any sort of compensation for the trouble or even an apology. I understand that sometimes mistakes happen, I have been double booked before and given an inferior room but the hotel in question were exceptionally apologetic and they made it up to me with a discount and bottle of wine. At Hotel La Spezia, their arrogance prevented this... Not a lot laterooms could do really, although the guy I spoke to at 2300 hours was understanding there was simply nothing he could do, it was completely down to the hotel... Whatever you do, do not stay at this hotel...
