Don't let it happen to you!

Booked and paid for this hotel two months prior to arriving. Arrived by water taxi at 10:00 PM night only to be told they were overbooked so we had been moved to a sister hotel almost a mile away - no where near the Grand Canal. Had specifically booked this hotel on the Grand Canal due to bad back and the need to use watertaxis and boats to move luggage for 3 week holiday. After arguing for 1/2 hour went to the other hotel in a much poorer location. Walked back at midnight and they were actually checking another couple in. Argued for another half hour and was told it was not the front desk's decision. Reinjured back in the transport of the luggage.

Good Enough, Great Location

We stayed for two days at the Hotel Marconi prior to a cruise. The location cannot be beat--right next to the Rialto Bridge and all that comes with that. Whether the hotel is right for you depends on your expectations, and you should think about this before you book. If being close to the action is key and your expectations of your lodging are of lesser importance, the Marconi would be great. The water taxi dropped us off literally at the front door of the hotel. We saw a lot of people trudging through Venice's narrow streets dragging suitcases, so that convenience is important. If, on the other hand, you are looking for ammenities and comfort, you may want to look further. This is a very old, dark building ;which one should expect in old Venice;. The rooms are very basic. The air conditioning we were there in July; is inadequate and they do not have fans. I will say that the staff were pleasant and helpful and the breakfast was more than I expected. As I said, think about your priorities. We probably would not stay there again, but the experience was not terrible and the location was great.

Loved our stay at Hotel Marconi!

My husband and I spent our first year anniversary in Venice and decided to stay at Hotel Marconi based on its location on the Grand Canal and the good reviews it received. We were not disappointed! Our room was charming with authentic Venetian feel. The cleaning staff kept our room immaculate everyday and the front desk staff provided helpful suggestions on places to eat. We tried every restaurant recommended to us and we were pleased with them all. If you're looking for a good quality, centrally located hotel with true Venetian feel, Hotel Marconi is the right place to book.
