After having to park 10 minutes away, and walk to the hotel, it went downhill from there. The sewer gas coming up from the sink drain (there are no traps under the sinks) overwhelmed the room. The 1 1/2"" cockroach didn't help either. We waited 50 minutes after diner before anyone came around to take our plates or offer coffee.

The San Gil is a lovely gem tucked into a residential apartment area. It's about a 10-15 minute walk from the city centre and main attractions, but the walk is quite pleasant and we felt perfectly safe at night returning to the hotel. The room was quite modern and spacious. Staff was very good. If you're a light sleeper, be aware that the walls are thin and the courtyard style setting allows everyone to hear noise thoughout the hotel. A huge flock of birds fill a lovely tree in the courtyard and chirp all day and evening which is quite charming. They finally settle down at night, but will be back up early in the morning. All in all, it was a terrific property. Be sure to take a map of the area with the hotel marked -- although there is signage, it's tough to find especially at night. Parking is about $20 USD/night. If you need a break from Spanish food, there is a wonderful Japanese restaurant called Kaebe about 5 minutes away!

Lovely place but parking a problem. We had problems with the aircon in one room and the hotel was fully booked and could not move us.
