Ideally situated just a few minutes from Montmartre and the world famous Moulin Rouge, not far from the Trinite Church, the Garnier Opera House and the bustling elegant department stores of Printemps and Galeries Lafayette, the Villa Van Gogh is housed in a former mansion house which is reached by a charming private footpath. Walking up rue Fontaine in the north you will pass by some of the most famous theatres and cabarets of the capital. Those of you who enjoy the nightlife will be spoilt for choice, the number of Parisian soirees is limitless with Bus Palladium, la Loco, la Nouvelle Eve, l'Elysee Montmartre, to name but a few. A little further away the mythical and celebrated facade of the Moulin Rouge will remind you that Paris will always be the City of Light. The Hotel has 24 rooms have been renovated in 1999 and 2003. They are all equipped with double glazing, satellite television and telephone with plug for a modem. The bathrooms have Carrare marble and are equipped with a hair dryer, electric razor plug and a large choice of toiletries.

Unbelievably Bad! Avoid! We'd recently been to the Citadines, Berlin and Radisons Glasgow before booking this hotel in Paris. The only similarity was the price - at £120 for a night at the Van Gough it is actually more expensive that either of these upmarket hotels. Yes, I know Paris is expensive, but.... This is backpack standard at 3 star prices. At least you get air con, but that is it for the extras. No wifi, satelitte TV, or breakfast (E10 extra). You do get a tiny dark room on the edge of the red light district. But its the poor standard of the bathroom that really has to be seen to be beleived. Clearly installed years ago by incompetent DIYers, and no maintenance since. Soil pipe clearly leaking at WC probably since the day installed, WC pan cracked, cracked floor and wall tiles, bath plug didn't fit, hairdryer didn't work, etc. etc. etc. And if you expect a warm welcome at reception - forget it! Fortunately we were only booked in for a night before moving to the Citadines, Louvre. It is only an extra £50, and just sooooooo much better. Pay a little extra and stay well away from the dire hovel that is the Van Gough hotel.

The staff were first class and very very helpful. As in many Paris hotels the room was small but it had everything we needed and was kept very clean. We would definitely return to this hotel for another stay.
