General Description

Once a milestone in modern Caribbean architecture, the fully renovated La Concha Resort crystallizes the essence of retro urban culture on a palm fringed Condado beachfront facing an umber-blue ocean, 15 minutes or less from everywhere. A rejuvenated 'La Concha' makes a splash in San Juan - Back in its heyday in the 50s and 60s, La Concha Resort was an icon of tropical modernism and Caribbean splendor. Fast forward to 2007. History repeats itself. After a decade-long rebirth, the doors surrounding its signature seashell-shaped dome reopen to reveal a new gem-a hip, seductive and thoroughly refreshed new Renaissance Resort that gives new meaning to the term tropical chic. The strikingly rejuvenated oceanfront boutique resort strikes a pose over the popular palm-fringed Condado beach, just steps away from the recently reborn tourist district's upscale designer boutiques, world-class restaurants and sizzling San Juan nightlife. Here there are no ordinary rooms. Each of the 248 spacious and stylish habitats is an oasis of creative comforts with voluptuous beds wrapped in luxurious linens, and a fresh modern decor with cutting-edge designer furnishings. Each is appointed with state-of-the-art technology including Ipod/MP3-ready alarm clocks, 42' flat-screen LCD monitors, digital on-demand entertainment and system-wide high-speed Internet access. Most all have spectacular soul-soothing ocean vistas. The resort's retro urban design is everything today's savvy traveler and Caribbean connoisseur is looking for. The gracious and thoughtfully planned beachfront property includes two swimming pools--one of which is a multi-level infinity edge pool--waterfalls, fountains, a hot tub & Jacuzzi, pool-deck cabanas and landscaped decks, as well as a fully equipped oceanfront fitness center. By day La Concha's lobby is a bright, welcoming sanctuary. But when the sun sets, the boundaries disappear and the indoors and outdoors blend seamlessly. The lobby bar is transformed into the place to see and be seen, where inhibitions magically disappear and guests mingle freely in cosmopolitan style and elegance-until the wee hours. What is clear throughout La Concha is that Puerto Rican hospitality is the order of the day-all day, every day. The resort's courteous and well-trained staff never disappoints; they work hard to offer intuitive service, anticipate the needs and cater to the whims and desires of every guest. Restaurants - A feast for the palate as well as the senses, the resort's five eateries nourish the spirit as well as the soul. The dining options include Perla (coming soon), renowned chef Dayne Smith's signature seafood restaurant under the beachside shell dome; Level 25 steakhouse and fresh fusion cuisine; Solera a poolside tapas bar; Maya (coming soon) and the deli Aroma.

Really beautiful architecture...the standard of cleanliness is typical of Puerto Rico 4+ star hotels. Excellent beach views and pool area. Great night live.

My husband and I went to Puerto Rico in April and stay at La Concha in Condado, San Juan Once your in the lobby it seems like your in a different world. What a beautiful place that is. The hotel staff is very freindly and attentive to your needs, the service is excellent. My ocean veiw room was a great place for romance or relaxation. I will be staying here again this summer and when ever I get to go back.

We stayed at this hotel June 2009 and we were quite pleased with it. The staff was very friendly and helpful, from restaurant recommendations to helping with some concerns with our room (the first day the TV didn't work, the third day, the fridge blew out). We weren't that bothered by construction because the location of our room (corner, oceanfront room, 11th floor). We arrived around noon and luckily got to check-in early, instead of having to wait until check-in time. My only issue was that sometimes they forgot to leave certain towels in the bathroom - washclothes or the foot towel for the tub. Otherwise, we were pleased with the condition of our room. The location was great, we were right on the main avenue, and it was only a 20 minute drive into Old San Juan (which cost about $14), and it was also very close to the airport (which cost $17). We were also in walking distance of several good restaurants (Jam, Miro) and hotels/casinos (the Marriott). The pool area was nice and clean, and the hotel is located on the beach, so you can easily go back and forth between the two. There were towels for hotel guests to use there as well. The outside restaurant, Solera was good, but a bit pricey. We did not try the other restaurants in the hotel. The only sticking point was the 'resort fee' that I wasn't told about. It was $16.50 a day. It came to about $82 for our stay, which I didn't budget for, and was disappointed in Orbitz for not telling me about that when I booked the trip.

Our stay at La Concha Hotel was ok. We have two kids and did not see many things for kids to do. The only options available were the pool and the beach. The pool was very cold by the way. The nightlife seems to be very entertaining for single or couple without kids. I was very disappointed that construction was still going on during our stay. The noise would drive you crazy in the morning. I would recommend singles or couples going once the construction is done.

The room was very comfortable, but not very clean. The apperance is horrible. Is good for business and study. You woon't have too much security. The last night was very noise in the hall of may room.

The San Juan Beach Hotel is in a great location right on the beach with nice places to eat nearby. The staff is willing to go above and beyond. We had an early flight out the next morning. There was no phone in our room so the person at the front desk came up to our room on the 3rd floor three times to knock on the door. When we weren't downstairs within the time he expected to see us he came up again to be sure that we hadn't overslept. He was by far the most concerned hotel staff person I have ever encountered. There was a taxi waiting for us when we came downstairs. The furnishings and the look of the room and the bathroom were old, worn and dingy. The bed was not comfortable. For the location and the staff it is definitely a great value for money and I would highly recommend it. For the comfort and atmosphere of the sleeping room it's a complete disappointment. If you are looking for a good price, a good location and don't mind the sleeping environment being less than perfect I'd certainly give it a go.

La Concha was family friendly but also great for couples who want a quiet get away. The amenities within the resort were great. The room was awesome with a beautiful view of the patio. My only wish was that the room had a full balcony so that you could sit and enjoy the view. The staff was great and very accomodating. You don't ever have to leave the resort. Once the casino addition is complete La Concha will be even better. The food venues in the hotel are pricey as are drinks, but there are restaurants within walking distance that are more affordable. I will definitely be back.

the pool was only open the day we got there and due to the construction was closed the rest of the time (it was ok i don't think pools are supposed to be slime green) Our power in our room went out twice. and then finally had to move to a better room (with power) everything was damp and smelled a lil like mold. (there was mold on the ceiling of our room) I think this hotel will be great once the construction is done and they install dehumidifyers. The staff however was great and very helpfull. this hotel just needs someone to take care of it and i don't think the owners are doing a very good job of checkin to see if the rooms are cleand correctly and everything is in order for there guests. sad its in such a great spot and is not being takin care of.

I loved this hotel. The atmosphere is great for young people which i am not but my daughter loved the whole vibe. The rooms was lovely, I upgraded to an ocean view and it was breathtaking. Watch out for the contruction. Make sure your room is not on that side or you will sure wake up at 600AM whether you like it or not. The landscaped grounds are beautiful I appreciated all the shady spots since I cannot take any sun. The food in Solera was terrific. Try the Tapas and Sushi at night. The breakfast buffet for 20.00 at cafe 25 was nothing to crow about. Expensive and not very tasty. My only gripe is the 16.82 daily resort fee which i am writing about...cannot understand the charge when this hotel is more expensive during this troubled times than others. Still not sure what incidentals charges are??? Staff was terrific. Always a smile and eager to please.

Hotel room rate expensive, especially considering ongoing construction. I mean jack hammer, not light painting. Hotel groovy with evening music, not my style.

Staff (and(manager) goes out of their way to be accomodating. I think they care and they shall succeed. Rooms are large and clean and they are a great value for the money. The hotel has a great potential. Location is super and if the ultimate ugrading succeeds (and under current management I think it will) it will be hugely successful.

The great service at La Concha started as soon as my friend and I arrived -- our room was upgraded for FREE (beachfront), the room itself was amazing with plush bedding and super design, and the staff quickly came to snap the lock off my friend's luggage that had been damaged. Dinner at Perla was exceptional, and the hotel bar and outdoor lounge area is the perfect place to start off a night in San Juan. There are other good restaurants too...even the burgers we ordered on the beach were very good. The conceriege was helpful, and there is a Hertz in the lobby in case you need to rent a car (good if you decide to tour El Yunque on your own). Even the valets out front got to know us and were very helpful -- they know all the best restaurants and clubs, so be sure to ask before heading out for the night. The beach is nicely maintained, and the staff is very accomodating...and the pina coladas are excellent! Friends staying at other hotels even came down for the afternoon because the beach at La Concha far outdid their own. La Concha is located near some of the best dining on the island, and only about a ten minute cab ride to Old San Juan. I will definetely be coming back.
