General Description

Located in Bostons Beacon Hill area this hotel is a city landmark. The main building was once the Charles Street jail which has now been transformed into a four start property. On the banks of the Charles River and adjacent to Massachusetts General Hospital and Boston Charles River Esplanade, the shopping areas of Charles Street and Newbury Street are within walking distance. Cambridge and the Financial Deistrict are a short subway ride away. There are many things to do in Boston and this hotel is well situated in the heart of Bostons Beacon Hill neighborhood and is just a few steps away from the Charles River and its Esplanade. The property offers easy access to outdoor recreation, unique shopping, entertainment, downtown and the university and colleges of Boston and Cambridge. This property is non-smoking. The original granite Charles Street Jail building was innovative for its day, comprising a beautiful cruciform-shaped structure complete with a 90-foot central rotunda and cupola built in 1851. Today, through careful planning, this historic building is home to a variety of public spaces linked by historic catwalks. The hotel features a union of historic and contemporary design. Among other dramatic features that have been preserved are vestiges of jail cells within the hotel lobby bar and magnificent, oversize windows. There is an original atrium stretching dramatically from the floor of the lobby through to the cupola. There are 300 guestrooms, including suites with river views in this newly built/renovated property. The rooms are decorated with contemporary furnishings. Rooms are located in the original building with the majority of rooms located in the new adjoining 16-story tower. There are three distinctive venues for dining and drinks. Hotel guests may have cocktails in the lobby jail bar, regional specialties in the casual second floor hotel restaurant and bar, or Internaitonal cuisine at the fine dining restaurant. 10 minute walk to the nearest metro station (charles street station), 2 km to the nearest fair site (boston convention center), 2 km to the nearest station (south station), 3 km to the nearest beach, 3 kms to the nearest airport (logan, boston).

Its the perfect location, right there there in downtown Boston! Right as you get ready to walk in, you are promptly greeted..as U make ur way up the esculater to the front desk you can see why its hotspot for night life... The lobby was exquist! The front desk was very friendly, courteous and attentive. The only negative is you better be prepared to get Alibi or Clink early on the weekend or you will be waiting in line to get in! I would definitely recommend the Liberty Hotel to anyone and I look forward to returning there again on my next trip to Boston!

The common areas are fantastic, and we loved the bar and restaurant. The room, however, while clean and sporting a very comfortable bed, was small and no different from your average mid-level chain hotel room. The bathroom was spacious, though the water pressure in the stand-alone shower was quite weak.

The Liberty Hotel was perfectly located and absolutely delightful to stay in. It is the rennovated "jail" but you are truly captured by the design, furnishings and ambience of the whole experience. It is plush, lush, and fun. The "T" was right across the street and easy to use. We walked the Freedom Trail, shopped on Newbury Street, toured Harvard and enjoyed great food in the evenings. The concierge was extremely helpful in getting us dinner reservations to the popular restaurants. The concierge assisted in renting us a car which was delivered directly to the hotel. Would definately stay at the Liberty our next time in Boston!

***Next door at the Massachusetts Ear and Eye Infirmary there is a great cafe that has economical breakfasts and fresh fruit!

We arrived for an early wedding on the afternoon of Oct. 20th. I had asked in advance to have our rooms (2) ready in advance of the usual check-in time, and this courtesy was extended to us without a problem. The rooms were lovely with a beautiful harbor view, which we requested. Our young granddaughters were inpressed with the lovely vew from their room and the well stocked bathroom amenities (hair blower, shampoo, shower cap, etc).
It was a most pleasant experience for the five of us, and we would certainly return to the Seaport again if there was occasion to be in that area. We were treated to New England's finest scenery (trees and foliage turning color) so the drive up was wonderful. Traffic on the return trip was horrendous---no fault of the wonderful hotel!!!

The Liberty had only been open 5 weeks when my friends and I stayed there....it is FABULOUS!! Very trendy and love that it has a JAIL theme. It use to be an old Jail and if you like a TRENDY place with GREAT service, BIG rooms and even BIGGER bathrooms you will love the LIBERTY!!! Alibi is the bar downstairs and it was the hot spot....if you are a guest you get right in or after a very short wait. The CLINK is the restaurant and it was VERY tasty!! It has a big lounge area to sit and have drinks outside of CLINK and the lobby....just a fun place to stay!! I WILL be staying there again very soon.

I spent two nights there right after they opened (1 week is what I found out) and I was very impressed! The rooms are spacious, nicely decorated and high definition flat screen TV's are a very nice touch. The hotel is located in Beacon Hill so very convenient to all of the sites I wanted top see with my wife. We had breakfast in Clink and it was a European style breakfast which we both loved. The lobby bar was the new hot spot in the city. We stopped down for a glass of wine before heading out to dinner and it was a fun atmosphere. We are looking forward to coming back. The service was excellent. The Concierge is very knowledgable and we enjoyed the dinner recommendation.

This classy new hotel is a definite place to stay. Modern amenities; friendliness, pet friendly, accessible to shopping, transportation nearby, excellent food, service and drinks, etc. are a given here. On arrival, the doormen were so very kind and extremely helpful. With our late arrival, the reception area was accommodating and has a nightly party happening with their champagne bar in lobby. We had a wonderful brunch with the same expected service. This is a definte stay for all.

We found the Liberty Hotel to be a great place to stay for our recent trip to Boston. As the former Charles Street Jail, they kept the history and intrigue associated with the facility but modernized it in a hip and happening way. If you are looking for a quiet place to be, the Liberty Hotel may not be for you as the lobby and downstairs tends to have a nightclub-type atmosphere. We found it to be a lot of fun and a great place to meet locals. The hotel is located in a central part of Boston and it is very close to the Charles/MGH 'T' stop, which makes it very convenient to get around - either by walking or riding. The rooms have beautiful decor and amentities and are comfortable and clean. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Liberty and were very sad to leave.

Very interesting place to stay. The lobby, restaurants and a few of the rooms of this hotel are built into the old Suffolk County jail, an historic stone building. Most of the guest rooms are in a separate tower but it is integrated well with the jail building so you don't feel as though you are leaving the main building. The interior of the lobby is very interesting. It hosts large groups on weekend nights as a local hot spot. The guest rooms are very nice. Many have a view over the Charles River. The hotel is right next to Mass General hospital but noise was minimal. The hotel is in the Beacon Hill neighborhood which has been nicely restored and has many interesting restaurants and shops and is a short walk to the Boston Common. A "T" stop is right in front of the hotel so local transportation is easy.
