We arrived late on a Friday night at the hotel. After several mintues of ringing the doorbell a person answered and given the background noise I could here it led me to believe they were out socialising. The person was rude and told me I had the wrong hotel even though I had the confirmation details. They then persisted to tell me I had no booking and that there were no rooms available anyway. I asked if there were any other hotels around the area but this just fell on deaf ears as the person seemed more interested in getting back to what sounded like a party. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone as we should not encourage this sort of behaviour. We ended up finding better accommodation at only a fraction of a cost more which had friendlier staff.

The appeal of this place is basically its location (close to Rialto Bridge) and its atmospheric and distinctive style - it's constructed around a courtyard tucked away far from the madding crowd and fronts onto one of the canals. Staff were generally very helpful, reorganising one of the rooms so that single rather than double beds were available. Another of our "rooms" turned out to be a whole apartment with a kitchen and spare room, all at the same price! Some of the rooms are extremely close to the reception area and could be a bit noisy at times - and in one of ours the lighting was pretty gloomy: but that's "atmosphere", right? This was a memorable stay and I'd certainly recommend it.

The hotel looks nice enough, but we'll never no as they overbooked the hotel. We had reserved a canal view suite, but as there were no actual rooms available they made a reservation for us at the Hotel Saint Marina nearby. The room we were given was in no way equivalent to a suite and had a view of a wall, but all at the same price. If you do decide to stay here make sure to be absolutely sure there is an actual room available.
