During the second half of the 18th century, the 'post office' entrusted with the collection and transportation of people and documents, was situated in the famous Marchese Palace. Within a short time, the building became the Locanda della Posta, the only hotel in the city of Perugia. It's noble origins ensured it quickly became regarded as the highest expression of Perugian hospitality. Famous personalities of the time, when stopping over in the the city, always stayed at the Locanda. In 1786, the hotel was host to the poets Heinse and Goethe, in 1802 to the philosopher Humboldt, in 1824 to Frederick II of Prussia and in 1833 to the author Andersen. Of course much has changed since then and the hotel has recently been completely renovated. But the 'old world' charm, the exclusivity and the uniqueness of the Locanda della Posta remain.
