General Description

The Hotel Marseilles is an original Art Deco style boutique hotel with typical architecture and design features of the 1930's. Miami Beach was honored to have the contribution of a famous European Architect, Robert Swartburg, born in Bucharest, Romania who designed both the Marseilles and the Delano Hotels. The Marseilles has almost all the peculiarities of the Art Deco style - vertical emphasis and a combination of flat and curved walls, use of glass blocks, neon, cove and porthole ceiling lighting and cast iron railings. While you stay with us, discover the Marseille's delightful art deco ambiance and see how the past has been preserved to its original beauty. The Marseilles has a fantastic ocean front location in Miami's South Beach Art Deco District, on Collins Avenue, just 1 block from Lincoln Road Shopping Mall and 2 blocks from the Miami Beach Convention Center. Just walk outside and enjoy the most talked about beach in America, enjoy the spectacular world-renowned nightlife, South Beach's sidewalk cafes, fabulous restaurants, night clubs, designer shops and cultural events. There is an abundance of nightlife, with fine dining and dancing at one of the local discos or jazz clubs, located all within walking distance of the Marseilles Hotel.

The hotel and the staff are great. The pool is nice and clean and there is a little bar in the back pool area. The rooms were decent size and clean. Hotel itself looks really great and we were pleased with overall service. The only problem we had was a group of extremely loud and drunk kids in the room next to us who obviously never knew how to use the door handle so they kept slamming the door. We complained to the front desk and they immediately went to talk to them. When this issue continued for the next few nights and they kept on being extremely loud, the hotel offered to move us to another room. Overall, I have to say that (except that one incident) our stay at the Marseilles hotel was a pleasant one and we will probably stay there again.

Location was the only thing. It was filthy and a rip off, promised one kind of room and given something completely unacceptable. The parking promised was not there, so I had to pay $25.00 for Valet parking and they left the car in front of the hotel until 2 hours before I checked out. They also charge a lot extra on your credit card for incidentals that I never would use. I also have not received the credit back from them yet and it has been 4 days. We had to change rooms 3 times because of filth and odor from a take-out container of week old lobster. The last room we were given was dirty also. We could hear every door down the hall that was closed, not sound proof at all. The deluxe ocean view room was a joke, we could barely see blue when we pressed the left side of our face against the window. It was an older hotel which is fine, but there is no excuse for being dirty. The staff seemed to be laughing at us in a different language and were rude when we asked for a clean room. I will never use this hotel again as I am in the Tour business and we use hotels. This was definitely below standards for anyone, anyone except this hotel and their staff.

This was my second stay at the Marseilles while at a business conference in Miami. Dont listen to the negative reviews, this is a great value if you are planning to stay in South Beach! The staff is awesome, and always willing to accommodate you in any way! I'll agree the hotel is older and has it's little "quirks", but the charm, beauty, and grace of this place make it well worth it!

I had to put in a good word for the hotel. I stayed two nights pre-cruise. Having booked through a discounter, I was given a partial ocean view. The room reminded me of the furniture and bathroom tiles that were in my Grandmother's house (remember the inlaid soap dish?) The room was adequate for the one night but I requested to be moved to an ocean view the next day. What a difference! So my advice to anyone booking here is definitely, pay the extra for the Ocean View Room. It was bigger, the tv was better, the bathroom was bigger, it had a refrigerator/mini bar (did the first room? I really don't recall). And of course, The View was so much better. I see they also have a jacuzzi room upgrade from the Ocean View as well as a Penthouse Suite; those I can't speak about. As for the staff, they were all so nice to me. The room attendant helped me move to the new room and later, when I had tangled the new hair curler I'd bought at the CVS (just up a couple of blocks) in my hair, took the time away from her cleaning to help untangle me. (No small feat! I was just about ready to cut it out with my scissors!) She was wonderful, giving me advice how to use that curler next time to avoid entanglement! The front desk and the pool bartender were all very nice to me and pleasant. So I just wanted to put in a good word. Bring hair conditioner; they have shampoo only. Liked the pool area/hammock area a lot.

"Overall it was a good experience. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The hotel is one of the most economical you'll find in that location and worth it. Rooms and washrooms are on the smaller side, but if you just need a place to crash while partying in South Beach, this is the place to stay. 10min walk to Ocean Drive. And the direct Beach access was great! If you want a quick bite to eat for breakfast, don't eat at their Restaurant, L'Omlette, they took more than 40min to serve our food. As for the burgers and hot dogs by the pool and servers there,GOOD TIMES ALL AROUND!
