Architecturally beautiful buildingOnly niggle I had was the room had no window that you could open and the air-con did not work. Decoration was starting to look drab and the street noise was easy heard even though we were on the 3 floor. However conveniently located for our needs.

Ecellent city centre location, take train to oxford road and just step accross the road. We were visiting Manchester university - a 10 min walk. Fascinating architechture and history in the building. Room facilities good, breakfast looked good but slightly disappointing.

We were allowed to check in early (11am) after an overnight flight. We updated to a newly renovated room and it was well worth the extra cost of 25 pounds. The room was immaculate and the beds were very comfortable.

I really enjoyed my stay at the Palace Hotel. The ceiling height alone was worth the rate I paid! Very comfortable beds, helpful staff, great location. Next time I will know to take a train from Piccadilly Station to Oxford Station as it is only a block away rather than a taxi ride. Manchester itself was fantastic. I highly recommend this hotel and the city!

Booking delayDecided last minute to book a hotel for an overnight stay in Manchester. Booked the room at around 11:50 on LateRooms and arrived at the hotel at around 15:30. There was a queue at reception so we had to wait about 15 minutes before being seen. There was only one person on reception when we arrived. Eventually a second receptionist came along, but I think it might have been advisable for the other person that came along to have been asked to come earlier. It was a little annoying when the second receptionist (despite seeing us queuing) went to see other people who had just arrived at the desk.Once we did get to see the receptionist, the hotel hadn't received the confirmation of the booking and it took around 30 minutes to resolve which was frustrating. The person on the hotel reception asked us to go and sit for 5 minutes whilst he tried to sort it. After 10 minutes, we went over to see him and he said it would take another 10-15 minutes. Generally we didn't find him to be particularly helpful so we then spoke to the duty manager who was very pleasant and offered us complimentary tea and coffee whilst we waited for the booking to be sorted. She explained that due to the Bank Holiday, they didn't have the staff on who would normally be checking for the bookings so the reception staff were having to do that as well. She said they had been checking for bookings on an hourly basis, so I was unsure why ours hadn't come through given that it was nearly 4 hours since we made the booking. In the end, we were given an upgraded room which was lovely. Spacious room which was clean and quiet with a really comfortable bed.We did get a really good deal on the room and checking in issues aside, we had a lovely stay. I would stay again, but I would be tempted to phone ahead to ensure the hotel has received the booking, particularly if you book a room on the day you wish to stay.

Convenient but...A bit jaded. Or maybe it was just the room I was given. Admittedly, I booked late because I only decided to go to Manchester a couple of days before the booking. I saw the pics of the hotel and decided to book there on the strength of that. The pics of the bedroom bore no resemblance to the actual room I was given which, if I wanted to live in a room dedicated to Jeeves and Wooster and not touched decor-wise since then, would have been great. I really didn't. I also ordered a full english breakfast on the morning of departure which arrived stone cold.

This can't be a 4* Hotel!Upon entry we waited for reception to check us in - the lady appeared to be too busy on the phone and her other team didn't help us. When we arrived at our room we were very disappointed - we both agreed the facilities were the same or worse than those of a travelodge - the television was dated and didn't even work - the rooms features were very dated and needed some refreshment (it felt more like a hospital). We requested a room change to be taken to a room which had stained carpets and a television which still didn't display a good quality picture. Our next request was taken a little more seriously and we were moved into a larger room with 2 double beds - although I would most certainly not put a 4* grade to the quality - I'd review as a 2-3* hotel with poor customer service.

A Special EventI feel its a very special treat to stay at the Palace. I have stayed a few times when I am attending an event in Manchester, either at the Hotel itself or in Town. The building is absolutely beautiful, the ambience overwhelming, the staff attentive and the food excellent. The only criticism I would like to make, and I would rather it be called constructive is the lighting in the bedrooms is poor for getting ready i.e. hair and make up. But its my first choice for accomodation in the City Centre

If you like trains stay here, if you like to sleep dont stay here. The Palace hotel has a great central location, near Oxford Road Station, however if you get a room that over looks the tracks it is very noisy.I wont be staying there again. The food was OK, help yourself breakfast is always good, but that was an extra £20, which is more than my evening meal.
