After spending one awful night in a different hotel in Athens, we hit the streets looking for a new hotel early in the morning. We stumbled upon Phidias and were very satisfied with our overall experience.

Pros: Staff were the friendliest we experienced. Location is perfect (5-10 min walk to acropolis, and surrounded by cafes/bars perfect for a late night drink or breakfast). Near a very clean and nice metro station. Outside noise kept out by thick glass on balcony door. Fairly clean. Free wireless internet in the neighborhood. Maps and Athens guides in the lobby.

Cons: Lobby is very smokey and the smell seems to seep into the rooms. Very old decor and paint which gives it a grungy feel. No fridge.

Overall great value compared to other hotels we stayed at or walked by in Athens. Would definately stay there again.

Close to Thissio (Thiseiou) metro station (about 3 blocks up hill), Parthenon (6+ blocks up hill), on pedestrian street. The area is very busy in the evening hours with many walkers. It is a safe area. Lots of places to eat nearby especially closer to metro station. We stayed here two times, once in front area of hotel and once in back where it is quieter. Air conditioning in rooms. Elevator. Front desk speaks English and is very friendly. The beds are VERY FIRM. Clean. The breakfast is basic, but good coffee. Good quality for your dollar and convenient, just hop the metro or walk to Syntagma, Omonia, Monastiraki. Platka areas.
