An excellent and beautiful hotel with the most friendly and helpful staff of any place we have ever stayed. To say the room was spacious would be an understatement to say the least. The furnishings and fittings were lovely and very in keeping with the building. We were a little concerned that the food prices may be over the top but we need not have worried. We had melt in the mouth rump steaks at £11, bottle of white at £13, the room service prices were also extremely reasonable. All in all, a fantastic hotel with outstanding staff. We will be back soon, a first for us because we like to try new places. It will be even better when they open new leisure facilities.

We were travelling with our 1 year old daughter and chose the Ramside because of its proximity to the motorway. The room was spacious though a little overheated - the radiator had been left full on. The food in the carvery was nothing special, but hot and filling. The carvery suits small children perfectly - it's not the kind of place where you will get complaints from diners about them making a noise.

This is a mediocre hotel with limited leisure facilities other than the golf course. The main building is desperately in need of a face lift / refurbishment. The result is that the hotel is just about average value at a discounted rate of £85 for a double room B&B, but nowhere near at full price.

Lovely family hotel only 3 miles from Durham City CentreThis hotel is in a lovely setting just outside Durham. It is also a golf club but even if you are not a golfer the atmosphere is charming/relaxed. It has the feel of a country house and the interior is exquisite. i can see why so many weddings are booked there. The rooms are elegant and spacious and buffet breakfast delicious. Kids were very welcome but I think a swim pool would have made it more exciting for them. Hotel has planning permission for one. All staff friendly and helpful. We visited Easter weekend when there were two weddings taking place but I am not sure whether i would want to stay when there are themed nights/eve entertainment taking place. I am not a fan of tribute bands etc.

Very NiceIt was very nice, would stay again. Buffet resturant didnt look to appealing so we went to the Grill resturant which was very nice indeed. Goog location for a stop over on route to Scotland. Cant beleive any one could stay at a motoway motel when we got this place for about the same price. Would have been nice if there was litte gym or pool tho.

Easy access from M1 near Durham to a very impressive hotel with ample and well lit parking. Reception staff very welcoming. Room was delightful, large clean, quiet and comfortable. There are two choices for eating, the main dining room or the very busy Carvery, I chose the latter and had a 'Kitchen Nightmare' experience. 12 different members of staff seen floating around and not very busy (except for nipping out for a fag break every 10 or so minutes). Tables left uncleaned for long periods. Rotund Chef on the Carvery mopped his brow with his hand and then lifted a roast onto the hot plate! I chose a 'cooked to order' medium rare Sirloin steak, which was the worst Sirloin I have ever had. The only bonus from the confusion was that my starter and drinks did not apprear on my final account. Although I would stay again I would prefer to eat elsewhere, which is a pity because this is such a nice hotel and one where I would otherwise happily spend my evening and money.

FoodThe hotel was lovely, room clean and lovely comfy bed. The food would have been good but the evening meal was look warm and breakfast had been under the heated lamps so long it was hard and dry. Wouldn't stop me going back though. Lovely place.

Amazing value for a Sunday night stay in an enormous twin double bedded room at this magnificent hotel. Only minor criticism was that my son and I had to share a bath towel, but at £49 for the room, who's grumbling?

Lovely room with gorgeous views and immaculate. No breakfast included in the price though which we could have got elsewhere for the same price and better located for central Durham.

needs updatingI was really disappointed with this hotel on a number of counts. I upgraded from a standard room and I wish I hadn't bothered. The jacuzzi was noisy, the room was really musty and my clothes in my bag stink of the room. The dressing gowns had stains on them. Very poor

Parking is no problem (apart from golfers in 4x4's who can't park properly or think that they own the place). Food was fine and the bar prices not too steep. Room was comfortable and spacious enough. The 'complimentary fruit bowl' was the only negative thing that I found. One apple and a tiny orange, this was almost an insult. Otherwise enjoy a quiet location, you can have a more lively night in the city with a short taxi ride.

There seemed to be several entrances into the hotel and I couldn't find the right one - better signing from the car park would help. Good location but you do need a car to get to it as it is outside Durham. Had a massive room with a nice view from the window. I don't think the service was very good and the staff were more efficient than welcoming. There were tea/coffee making facilities in the room and, according to a notice, you could ask for hot chocolate, which I did but was brought a ready-made one by room service and charged £1 for it the next day when what I wanted was a sachet so I could make my own. The 'fruit bowl' was a bit of a laugh - one apple and one orange. I would stay here again but only if the price was a special offer as it was the night I stayed - there is no way I would pay the full price to stay here.

Avoid like the plague.Never again. We'd repeatedly asked for a quiet room. Just before going to bed all units attached to the water system (basin, bath/shower cistern and wc) vibrated with a noise to awaken the dead for 20 minutes at a time; this could be heard up and down the corridor. As it couldn't be fixed we were moved to the MacIntyre suite. This was also plagued by a constant noise from the water system which periodically increased - all night long.If they couldn't provide a quiet room they shouldn't accept the booking. No sleep and, strangely enough the duty manager mysteriously couldn't be found next morning. There are plenty of other places to stay around here. Don't say you haven't been warned.\r\n\r\nManagement Response\r\n\r\nWe at the Ramside Hall Hotel, feel that, we endeavoured to assist Mr Geoff - but to no avail! We complimentary upgraded him by bypassing a Deluxe Room into our Presidential Suite, which we would normally sell at approx £225.00 per night. We had no other complaints from any other guests situated on the same floor, and felt that we more than compensated for the \"alleged noise\".

Lovely large room with a massive bed. Breakfast was generally good, fresh fruit and yoghurt and a cooked breakfast although one half of our paty was disappointed with theirs.

Would be better if it had leisure facilities on site. Also, there is a very small self-serve breakfast area. for the size of the hotel. It was almost impossible to eat on Sunday morning due the hotel being extremely busy. There was a shortage of tables, very large queues to the breakfast service area and not enough food to keep the queue moving.

Accessibility is the primary benefit of the hotel - just off the A1, the golf course and driving range on site are an added benefit. The rooms are excellent and comfortable. However, on my last stay, a Sunday night, the restaurant was closed and only the carvery available where the service was poor and food adequate but no better.

A good place to visitWe enjoyed our stay at the hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful and happy to accommodate our requests. My 13 year old and 10 year old thought their beds were too soft. Mine was very comfortable.

Hotel room was spacious and very well equipped. Two double beds in one room was a waste of the space though. The only downside was the breakfast was very expensive and not worth the money.

We were upgraded to a suite which was lovely. Huge living room, balcony and dining area, so my rating on value for money is probably scewed by the upgrade. The staff that brought the breakfast to our room were quite young and inexeprienced, so the service lacked the finesse you would expect of a really good hotel, but it was entertaining nonetheless.

Ramsidestayed for one night whilst visiting friends who live closeby. For the price we paid, we did expect a small shabby room. We got 2 queen size beds and enough room to put our travel cot up as well.Hotel was busy with a wedding, only heard slight noise. But would stay again when visiting friends if we can get same price. Husband wished he had brought his golf clubs !!
