General Description

The Red Lion is the only surviving pub left in the beautiful Lancashire village of Newburgh. This traditional pub with its cosy corners and appetising menu is a hit with locals and visitors to the area. The 13 rooms have been carefully refurbished to give the perfect blend of old and new. Newburgh sits on the Leeds and Liverpool canal a short distance from Wigan. The menu focuses on British classics using select local ingredients. For the more adventurous we offer daily specials from the blackboard and you can wash your meal down with a pint of quality real ale from a choice of brewers, or a glass of wine from our extensive cellar.

Modern standards, good old-fashioned serviceAn enjoyable stay in an old country inn with small but well-appointed rooms. Free internet access was a bonus. Good pub food.

The room was modern and very clean. There was an extensive menu at reasonable prices. The breakfast in the morning was very nice and the price was very good. Would definitely stay again.

The hotel was easy to find on the main road. Our room was extremely clean with crisp fresh bedding, the en suite was a good size with full size bath and shower. My husband and I both found the food in the restaurant delicious and of very good quality and the menu extensive, the atmosphere was relaxed and staff friendly. After a comfortable night and hearty full breakfast we made our way home discussing how soon we would be coming back.

A very comfortable bed in a spacious room. The bathroom was excellent, and the room was well worth the money. The food was average, part of a chain and although it was very reasonably priced it was only average pub food. I would stay here again as the rooms were lovely

second stay at the red lion, tried two other hotels in the area in the past year and will always go back here, room appeared to have been refurbished from what was already an awesome room, new flat screen tv, wrought iron bed, fluffy towels, couldn't have asked for more, great attention to detail by staff, mentioned what appeared to be a faulty bulb in the bathroom and it was attended to inside 5 minutes, quiet rural setting, under 10 minutes to m6 and the north, blackpool lake district etc, marstons and good selection of beers and wines, great breakfast, good selection of food also. 5star.

Probaby the worst hotel I have stayed in for some timeI checked in - all Ok, a little noisy as near the Pub. Went to bed at approx 10PM, but was kept up by the noise - one side of my roon was the car park / road - the other was the beer garden.I was a little surprise to see the complimentary ear plugs by my bedside - but now I understand why !!. I checked out in the morning but they could not give a receipt as the computer was down - however I paid on the promise of a posted receipt. A week later - still no receipt - I called asking for one - they promised to post it out. 4 weeks later I still have no receipt - and am now out of pocket as I cannot claim back my expenses........definately one to avoid.
