Our room was extremely small )--there were two small beds and a dresser with a tv on it---a cutout hole held a rod for clothes and an ironing board----(that was the closet)---the bathroom was tidied up but the floor was NOT clean......the carpeting was OLD OLD OLD ---dark, dirty and nasty.....the bedspreads were old and very faded ---the door was very thin---not real wood---and the dead bolt was cracked right in two--like someone had kicked in the door and snapped the deadbolt....my daughter and I just didn't feel safe. The manager was upset that we didn't let him rectify the problem with another room--but we just didn't want to stay there--it was a safety issue at that point.

Location. The room was dirty. Curtains were hanging off window, small room and bathroom. The location was great, but the room was shocking. I didn't expect it to be that bad. The curtains were hanging off the rod, the air conditioner was blowing them everywhere. The bathroom floor tiles were cracked and the door didn't close all the way.

The staff seemed helpful and alert. Little details overlooked, eg. coffee maker but no coffee. The Red Roof has a great location. I think it is an excellent choice for people who don't care about grand lobbies and posh restaurants but do expect a good bed in a decent room.

The Red Roof Inn in Chicago was a good value. It was within walking distance to great restaurants, the Navy Pier and shopping. The room was very small, and not the best looking/well kept, but good for the location and price that I paid.

When it was the Raphael Hotel it was charming. Now it is dingy and depressing. The room was so small you had to go out in the hall to change your mind. The staff was nice, but the rooms were dark and dingy, the carpeting in the halls and in the room were stained and dirty. The maid service was top notch, everything clean and done quickly. Still, don't think I would ever stay there again.

I stayed at hotel June 5-7 2009, though the location of the hotel is perfect, the hotel & service itself is less then that. Upon checking in I was put into a room that was dirty and had spider webs in the in the windows and was the size of a closet (yes it's a downtown property I accepted that, the cleanliness however was not acceptable) I called down to the desk to see about switching rooms and was told I was in the largest room, they didn't offer to move me until I asked for a refund to move elsewhere. I was put in a much nicer room. This seemed to be partly remodeled. The day of check-out a person who was in the room with me dropped their phone between the bed and wall, went to pick it up and found old dried up vomit on the wall, floor and side of the bed. At check out i brought it to the ladies attention and was simply asked if I would like another copy of my bill. I decided that when I got home I would call the manager. Manager was nice apologized and offered to refund my money. Long story short it has been about TWO months and due to lake of competence, and just plan disregard with the extent of this issue; I am STILL waiting for my refund. The customer service is seriously lacking, I have gone through 3 different people promising my refund, none of which have actually followed through. I would advise you spend the extra money and stay in a much cleaner hotel to avoid any situation of this matter.

I work for a police department in the narcotics bureau and I've been in nicer crack houses. We had a King Suite and one bathroom the roof was falling in and the other had mold growing on the ceiling. The toilet ran unless you took off the lid ad adjusted the water hose. There was a smell associated with the mold I think. My travel companions had their room broken into and items stolen by the staff, as there was no sign of forced entry. The elevators are tiny and there are only two for a 16 story hotel. I seriously would not stay here if it was free. I believe that you only get a room in Chicago to sleep, but come on this is ridiculous for a nationwide chain. The limited contact I had with the staff seemed as though they were annoyed by the fact you needed service. Add some more money and enjoy your stay at another facility

We weren't in our room very much so the amenities weren't that important to us. The proximity to Michigan Ave shopping and the United Center worked very well for us. Probably the only real problem we had was the temperature in the room was either too hot or too cold.
