Finding the room was an adventure, its a bit of a warren. A colleague also stayed and we both had excellent characterful rooms. did not eat dinner there this time though the food has been splendid in the past.

Check in was quick and efficient. The room including ensuite was spotlessly clean and very well decorated. The room we were given was not part of the main hotel as 2 weddings were on and they gave us a quiet location - very thoughtful. The only slight down side was it was on a busy main road but it did not disturb us at all. The pool facilities were very good, however on Sat eve it is only open until 7pm and so only had short swim before dinner and breakfast (only stayed for 1 night). The only let down of the weekend was the food - don't get me wrong it wasn't a complete disaster but some areas could be significantly improved. I had lamb noisettes which came dry and over-cooked (I was never ask how I would like the lamb cooked) and was really a lamb chop without the bone and with alot of inedible fatty bits, however, my husbands chicken was fine. The veg was quite good, mostly cooked OK (mange tout too soft) but just thrown in one dish and it looked a l;ittle like frozen mixed veg at first sight but it was all fresh! The dessert, however, was really very different - excellent shortbread with light and fluffy cream, fresh strawberries and served with ice cream. Overall at £21.95 for 2 courses it was definitely over priced for the quality, presentation could be alot better on the veg front but service was good and when the girl asked if dinner was OK and I said not really she took the criticism very well and said she would let the chef know that a choice for cooking lamb noisettes is like that of steak - down to the individual.Breakfast was OK, buffet style, make your own toast, etc. It was well presented but as the food was placed in the conservatory and it was sunny, this perhaps was not the most ideal choice for food? All staff were helpful and cheerful except the girl serving the hot (well perhaps quite warm would describe it better!) food who could have tried to smile a bit more and interact with the guests. For the price it was a good stay (£78 for double room ens

the hotel was quiet the night i stayed but the food and service in the resturant was excellent (evening meal was £19 for 2 courses). never got to explore the extensive grounds or leisure facilities so cant comment. only negative was that there were only 6 tv channels available. i paid £45 for b&b through laterooms which was cery good value for money reduced from the normal £85 and i have already booked there for my next stay.

Lovely quiet setting. Attractive grounds. Plenty of parking. No lift but only 2 storeys high, however rooms spread over long building so lots of corridors, some with a few steps up and down, so lots of walking. Staff very friendly and helpful. Well equipped, comfortable rooms. Breakfast good but fresh fruit salad rather than tinned would be nice.

Excellent Hotel, friendly staff and very clean and comfortable. Kitchens were very busy catering for a wedding party which meant lengthy delay over serving food - however, the staff did apologise profusely. Overall excellent service and to be recommended.

Lonely DiningBeing busy means that dinner is an important break for me. However, travelling alone means that dining is dull when there is nothing else to be occupied with! Having papers or magzines, or a tv available in waiting areas like the cocktail bar (and being able to take papers/magazineds through to the dining area) would have been good. I did request this at the time, but there were none available. Being seated facing the marvellous suuroundings, or being given the choice to do this, would have been much preferred to being seated facing into the room of other dining groups.
