The 'Royal Oak' turned out to be another gem. I booked solely on the comments of others who had stayed here and booked through Laterooms. If your thinking about staying in the area i can't recommend this hotel enough. It was ideally located just off the A66 but far enough away so that you couldnt here the traffic. We stayed in room 5 and it was superbly decorated, to a standard normally found in upmarket hotels. A sure sign of a quality establishment is the amount of locals who use it. The Restaurant was fully booked but were made to feel welcome and ate in the Lounge. The food served was gorgeous, and the sticky toffee pudding made it to the top of my best pudding list, it were perfect. All in all the Royal Oak is probably one of the best places i have ever stayed in. Gorgeous room, very welcoming helpful staff, top quality food and a great location. Just book it now.

The hotel was double-booked so we didn't get the opportunity to stay there. They said that they had registered us in early September instead of August as requested. However we stayed at a really friendly bed and breakfast place called Bongate House near the royal Oak. We did eat at the hotel and the food was reasonable. The restaurant service was excellent.

Very convenient location and very friendly staff. Although our stay was very short (1 night) we would certainly recommend this to anybody looking for quality accommmodation at a good price. Certainly worth making the slight diversion from the nearest chain hotel!

Very friendly owners and staff, excellent room, very good restaurant and pub menu, Breakfast choice was extensive. We ate in on the evening and restaurant was busy even on a Sunday which is always a good sign. We used the Hotel as a stop-over between the lake district and the Yorkshire Dales and the location was perfect for us. We will definitely return again, the price on Laterooms ensured excellent value for a very good pub and hotel.

Very friendly Hotel easy to find just off the A66. I did not arrive until just before 9.00Pm when the kitchens should close but they still arranged for me to eat.
