General Description

Nestled on south beach's hippest block, the oceanfront South Seas Hotel in Miami Beach is a boutique hideaway in an A-list location. The hotels decor is a mix of style and understatement blending mid-century Miami Beach modernism with an array of contemporary features. Tropical bougainvillea frame a sweeping entranceway and vintage photographs cataloguing Miamis social history, are featured throughout the building. With the quaint boutique shops of Lincoln Road Mall and Ocean Drive, chic outdoor cafes, top notch restaurants, all-night club hopping and the best people watching on South Beach around, the South Seas places you in the center of it all. Located directly on the ocean, enjoy the inescapable beauty of Miami Beach of one of Americas top ten most beautiful beaches, and retreat to the revitalizing coolness of the swimming pool. Be absorbed by a sense of serenity while lounging on comfortable teak furniture with a cocktail, dining on casual fare poolside at Pilikia Cafe, or spending a lazy afternoon swinging in a hammock in a lush palm garden. As day becomes night, lights dim, tiki torches flicker, as your daytime playground turns into your romantic hideaway. Larger than most hotel rooms on South Beach, guest rooms are cozy, and reflect a fresh updated quality, with colorful orchids to accentuate each room. Some rooms offer views of the ocean, while others enjoy views of the pool and city. Business or leisure travelers will enjoy the convenience of complimentary Wi-Fi in all rooms and public areas, flat panel TVs and IPOD docks, waffle robes, luxury bed and bath linens, and organic toiletries to relax and rejuvenate. A bountiful European breakfast buffet is complimentary to all guests and can be enjoyed on the Hotels poolside terrace. Also included in your room rate are daily newspapers, business center, and beach towels. The front desk agents had no clue about Miami when we'd ask them about cool clubs, bars, restaurants, lounges, quick lunch, etc in the area. They could only refer places in the immediate 2 block radius of our hotel. Otherwise, the room was a nice size, clean, quite with a very comfortable king-size bed with lux sheets/comforter. Don't be fooled by the word "Oceanview" because in reality, you can see the neighboring hotel's pool and only a sliver of ocean in the far distance from your window. The continental breakfast had a nice spread of fresh juices, all types of cereal, cold cut meats and cheeses, hard-boiled eggs, strawberry bread, multi-grain breads, English muffins, french toast (my favorite) with syrup, flavored coffees, assortment of teas, fresh fruit, jams, butter, cream cheese, milk, soymilk. Also there was a toaster and toaster oven to create any type of culinarymasterpieces. The pool area was very nice and quiet except when the hotel next door throws loud, pumping Saturday pool parties starting at 10AM. The pool was large, clean and HEATED (very important). Unlimited beach towels. Hammocks out back are a nice place to catch some zzzz's or just read a book. Just further out back is the gated exit for direct beach access. Not included are the beach chairs or umbrellas, $10 and $15 respectively. I also loved the hotel's central location. I forgot to mention the very convenient free internet room. One other complaint I had was that the room attendant did a very nice job tidying up the room but one day she shoved my nite clothes in a dusty corner of the floor next to the nightstand in the process. I hope it was inadvertantly done.

We enjoyed South Seas Hotel. Our only complaint was that the rooms were small. We didn't have space to put all of our toiletries, etc. so I never felt organized while we were there. But the location is great, great pool, great breakfast.

The hotel was great and the staff was very helpful. Especially one of the bartenders from the hotel restaurant/bar during the day. She was very helpful and accomodating. She recommended a this great greek restaurant to us which made our trip (Taverna Opa). The staff are what make a hotel a great place to stay.

"My son and I visted this hotel and for the money it is a great value. Everything is within walking distance. The boardwalk and beach are easily accessible as well. We arrived early and staff let us check-in. The breakfast was very good and a great start to the day. The morning staff were AWESOME, very nice ladies. Must admit there was a musty odor in the halls and elevator, but this is still a good hotel for the money. Room was clean and staff helpful. Not a luxury hotel but a good choice if you are looking to save money. The pro's outway the con's."

The front desk staff was rude and very unaccomodating. They gave us a difficult time with an early check-in and wanted to charge a fee for late check out. The first night at the hotel the bed linens were very dirty and the hotel did nothing to make-up for the dirty linens. Our toilet was broken and supposedly fixed but ran all night long making noise. The only positive part was the quality of food at the pool restaurant, although very expensive. Overall, thumbs down!!

"By no means a luxury hotel but a great budget one. Pool and bar area lovely, direct beach access is a real bonus, staff are very helpful. Rooms basic but clean and tidy which is fine unless you want to spend a lot of time relaxing in there. Fanastic location, 3 min walk from Lincoln Rd shops/bars/restaurants etc... definatel in the nicest part of SoBe."

The South Seas Hotel is a bit on the old side, but is in decent repair and is very clean. I downrate it a bit because adjacent hotels have better public areas and pools (we saw them). The staff was very friendly and helpful. I would not reccommend staying on the first floor since it is a cut through between the front desk and the pool/lounge.

The South Seas Hotel was a great place to say for a short visit. It had everything that you needed. The rooms are a bit dated and the air conditioner did not work that well but overall, the hotel served its purpose.
