Sumengen Hotel is an old Ottoman House renewed in 1987 and converted into a charming hotel. It is licensed Ministry of Tourism of Turkey. The Hotel has a panoramic view of the Bosphorus, the Sea of Marmara and the Asian Side of Istanbul. It is located very close the Hippodrome Square, Blue Mosque, St Sophia, Topkap? Palace, Grand Bazaar (Covered Market), Turkish and Islamic Arts Museum, Archaeological Museum and many other historical monuments. The hotel has a historical Turkish bath (hamam) used by old inhabitants of the traditional Turkish Konak. There are three types of rooms. Promotional, standard and sea view rooms. Also there are inter-connected family rooms with private bath and WC suitable for guests with children. All of the 30 comfortable rooms are equipped with private bathroom (shower & WC), direct dial telephone, air conditioning, and cable TV, mini bar, central heating and hair-dryer. Rooms at this hotel are very nice quality, having recently been redone and they were always spotlessly clean. Breakfasts were very plain - although this is usual in Turkey.Our only complaint was that this hotel quotes its rate in Euros (and from the LateRooms website agree to charge you in Euros), but then on checking out will try to stiff you by charging you the amount in Turkish lira at their own very bad exchange rate. Rather bad form and left us feeling slightly ripped off.

We stayed here for 5 nights. Our seaview room was spacious as well as impeccably clean and offered exactly the view and comfort we had hoped for. Staff were ever friendly. Breakfast certainly deserves a recommendation. It takes place in a salon upstairs with a terrace, decorated in the Ottoman style, with large windows over the entire width, supplying guest with a great view over the Marmara sea and Istanbul. A variety of dished was offered, ranging from grilled vegetables to cheese filled börek and from bread with several goat cheeses and cucumber / tomato/ olives (typically turkish) to bowls with the ingredients to compose your own cereal with, fresh fruit, boiled eggs and cakes. My favorite was a pancake with soucherry jam, sourcherries and coconut... still miss it now :-(

Extremely friendly and helpful staff. Nothing was too much trouble. Roof terrace was being renovated while we stayed but no noise or mess.Turkish bath recommended.Stay here when visiting Istanbul.
