General Description

The Andrews Hotel is a charming, European-style hotel centrally located in San Francisco's renowned theater and shopping districts. Our small size -- just 48 guestrooms -- allows our friendly and courteous front desk staff to give you individual attention. Citysearch Voted the Andrews hotel 'Best hotel staff' 2006. The building at 624 Post Street was completed in 1905 just before the great earthquake on April 18, 1906. Because it was built as a Class a structure, completely supported by a steel frame, it suffered little damage. However, the fire that engulfed the city after the quake did some damage to the lobby and restaurant. After being repaired the following November for $38,000, the building assumed its planned role as the Sultan Turkish Baths, a gentlemen's bath and relaxation establishment. The large electric sign on the roof announced its arrival on Post Street. As a full service business, the Sultan Baths featured a restaurant on the ground floor. The next level housed a salt-water plunge, tiled hot room, and a rubbing room. On the third floor one could find a barber, chiropodist, and a bar and lounge. The fourth and fifth floors featured small sleeping rooms and a steam room. Finally, on floors six and seven, one could rent one of several small apartments, each containing a bedroom and a parlor. Rumor has it that, at one time, the establishment had a rather unsavory reputation. Thank you for choosing the Andrews hotel for your visit to San Francisco. For the comfort and security of all hotel guests on New Year's Eve, parties or excessive noise will not be allowed in our guestrooms. Please be advised that non-registered guests will not be permitted beyond the lobby. Additional guests will not be added to the reservation at time of check-in. You'll be asked to stop by the reception desk to obtain a security bracelet before leaving for the evening (one bracelet per registered guest). Our Staff will be on duty to assist you for the evening. Only guests with bracelets will be allowed access to the guest elevators and the guestrooms; there will be no exceptions. Please note that once the bracelet is on, it can only be removed by cutting it off. We strongly suggest that you do not plan on using your vehicle for New Year's Eve. Due to the holiday, we are expecting traffic gridlock. If you choose to utilize your in-and-out valet privileges, a minimum of one-hour notification will be required. Parking will be available only for registered guests at $38.00 on New Year's Eve and $33.00 on all other nights. Parking is subject to 15.5% parking tax. On New Year's Eve, Fino Ristorante will be serving dinner with their regular menu from 5:00pm to 10:00pm. For reservations and/or information, please call 415-928-2080 On New Year's Day, Fino's will be closed. The front desk staff will be happy to assist with New Year's Day dinner reservations at other restaurants. The staff and management of The Andrews Hotel wish you a safe and happy New Year.

The Andrews Hotel was a quick choice based on location - it turned out to be a great value and experience. It is an old historic hotel, so the rooms are cozy and on the small side. Realizing that, my experience there was outstanding. Breakfast on each floor of the Hotel was a great touch. We will go back to the Andrews!

Location. Carpet in Lobby needs cleaning. This is a nice small European style hotel. The rooms are small but clean. The hotel is in a great location, two blocks from Union Square and one block from much more expensive hotels. A couple of things could be improved. One is to clean or replace the carpet in the lobby area. Because of this, the first impression is down a bit from the rest of the hotel. The second is to have a more accessible location for the ice machine (in basement near service area). All in all, this hotel is good value.

Friendly, clean, convenient. Room and bathroom very small. The Andrews is a very good, moderately priced hotel that is extremely convenient (close to Union Square). We recommend it highly, but ask for two beds. Rooms and bathrooms can be very small.

My daughter and I found our room very cozy. The bed was so comfortable with a very fluffy coverlet. After a long day of sightseeing it was wonderful to collapse in that soft bed. A Continental breakfast was set up on each floor. It consisted of sweet rolls, bagels, muffins, fruit, very good coffee, and juice. I really liked it being on each floor so I could slip out of my room, in my P.J.s, grab my breakfast and be back in my room without seeing anyone. The location of the Andrews Hotel was perfect for sight seeing. It was quite close to Knob Hill and Chinatown. My daughter and I walked everywhere, even Fisherman's Wharf, which was about a 40 minute walk. If you are not up to walking buses,Trollies and, the subway are all conveniently located. On the first floor of the Andrews there is a nice Italian resturant. Many other resturants, in a variety of cuisines, can be found near by. We loved our stay and would recommend it to anyone. If I ever have the opportunity to go back to San Francisco I will definitly stay at the Andrews Hotel.
