General Description

The hotel is centrally located in the famous Temple Bar District. The hotel overlooks the River Liffey and is close by to all Dublin's attractions. The hotel also has a very popular bar . The Clarence is favoured by rock stars and models and is still the place to be seen in Dublin. This is a traditional building built in 1852. Bought in 1992 by two members of the famous rock band U2 the hotel has undergone a complete restoration and refurbishment program, the Clarence has now been transformed into a luxury hotel. The Tea Room restaurant is situated on the ground floor of the hotel and serves modern contemporary food. The lobby of the hotel is small and maintains many of the property's original features such as stone floors and wood panels. Adjoining the lobby there is a study room with extensive seating area, arts-and-crafts style windows with original glass and oak panelling giving the room a warm feel. The rooms are on average large in size and in exceptional condition, all have wooden floors and oak furniture and are decorated in rich cardinal colours, inspired by ecclesiastical raiment, crimson, royal blue, amethyst, chocolate and gold. Every item of the furnishings has been custom-designed. All bathrooms are medium in size and in exceptional condition. 1 km to the nearest station (heuston), 4 km to the nearest fair site (rds), 8 kms to the nearest airport (dublin).

I had a King bed, but it was 2 twins pushed together. Kind of uncomfortable. Would have been nice to had a King, or a bed that was attached down the center. The tub was just too narrow, and the shower head was one that you had to hold. I am a rather tall, large person, so taking a bath or shower was very awkward. Would put up with the shower and bed again if I ever go back to Dublin . The restaurant was the best I visited in the city. The entire staff was very professional. The hotel was well worth the money. The televisoin could stand to be a larger size. Other than that, A+++++++

Excellence in comfort...we were upgraded to the Suite when we had only booked the Superior which was a substantial amount more but were not charged for. Had a mini-bar fully stocked, internet access in the room, dvd player, stereo, 3 rooms, clean, bed was very comfortable, had air conditioning, close to everything, staff was friendly and helpful, access to gym....

This hotel was definitely not a 5 star hotel! The toilet did not flush, the staff was rude, and if you want to have ANY visitors after 7pm, FORGET IT! If you are not paying, you are not staying! Overall, it was not worth the money and we did not even pay full price. The only good part of the hotel was the location.

Overall, unimpressed. Everyone except the bell boy was snooty. For the price we paid in far better hotels on our trip. You want an excellent boutique hotel, head to Paris & check out HOTEL DANEMARK...my favorite hotel experience by far. We paid about the same for that place and it had all the chic/boutique feel you could ever want! Sorry Bono, next time my money goes to another place in Temple Bar.

Too fussy and formal-lacks the basicsWe arrived early -1pm -and were told not possible to check in but we had to wait in the study.Brusque manner and fussy behaviour. We just wanted to relax without being bothered. The rooms are ok but you pay for the extras(nail files) without the basics. We like to make a tea or coffee in the room and there was no facilities. We guessed it was so more money could be extracted via room service.Difficult to find the CD player-I stabbed my finger trying to pull it out.Neded sky news or BBc news24.Bed quite hard but nice linen and pillows.Could be noisy at night with goings on out in Temple Bar.This place needs to relax and chill out a bit. Some people may like OTT staff but we didn't like the syrupy, false customer attitudes.
