The Crane Saint Philip
Barbados

General Description

The Crane, a residential resort, renowned for its unique cliff top setting on one of the most beautiful pieces of beachfront in the world, is now transformed from a very small property into a first class experience. There are 2 accommodation types: 1887 historic hotel rooms and private residences. While The Crane remains steeped in Barbadian history, the private residences still offer 21st century conveniences and amenities. Ground floor suites feature infinity edge private pools, while all two-bedroom residences on the upper floors feature individual plunge pools. The rooms and suites of the historic resort are each unique in design and location, all with authentic antique furnishings, original coral stone walls, spectacular views, and elegant canopy or four-poster beds. The Crane offers two dining options: Azure Restaurant, known for its fresh seafood and amazing ocean views, and Zen specializing in classic Thai and Japanese cuisine.

"We stayed at the Crane for our Honeymoon. it is a great place to go to get away from everyhing. By far it is the nicest resort on the island. Food was good, but limited and very pricey. Service in both restaurants was very slow and poor."

My fiance' and I just got back from our 7 days trip to the Crane . The staff is warm and friendly, nice beach, stunning hotel with a breath-taking view of the island. I would have had a fantastic time if it wasn't for the non working A/C. Nevertheless we would like to stay there again.

We got an excellent deal for this World renowned 5 star property. The location is fantastic. A bit out of town-20 minutes. Rent a car. Buy your own food and cook in the spacious kitchen provided in your suite. We had a jr. bedroom suite and it was the size of a small apartment. The furnishings and material used in the suite exquisite. Service excellent-all around. Peace and quiet all around. Scenery----breathtaking. Shuttle to the supermarket once a week. Excursions are pricey. Construction did not disturb us at all. Do not worry about them hounding you for time shares...you have to literally seek them out to provide you with the information---great prices and worth it. This resort is secluded and has a small stretch of beach. If you're looking to be left alone and relax...this is your dream come true...if you want fun, partying, etc. That can be arranged too. We went the 3rd week in Sept/08 and it was very roomy---not crowded at all. We plan to return again this Sept/Oct for another visit. Their renovations, additions should be almost complete. They are still building new suites on to the property. the rooms are clean. We had no issues with A/C, water, lights, etc. Anything we did request was delivered and tended to immediately. Customer Satisfaction with Service is their #1 priority. This truly is Paradise unhidden---a must see.

We recently stayed at the Crane resort for my husband's 30th birthday. It was absolutely beautiful! The grounds are incredible, the views are unsurpassed and the service was great! We arrived late (11:00 PM) to the island and were greeted by our shuttle immediately after we landed. There was a gentleman waiting for us at the bell station to check us in and get us to our room. The concierge desk was always available for setting up excursions and making dinner reservations. The only drawback was that the resort was about a 15 min. taxi drive to the nearest town if you wanted to eat anywhere off the resort. They do offer free shuttles to the grocery store 3 days a week which was nice. We also felt that the food on the resort was overpriced for what we had experienced on the island and not as good as some of the restaurants in St. Lawrence Gap, etc. The room was immaculate and spacious! Full kitchen, huge bathroom and living space. All in all, a great experience!

A pretty place until you get up close. 10 minute wait for hot water, frequent power outages, slow reaction to maintenance issues, construction noise, no half decent workout room, constanct wind, and constant noise from uncontrolled children who drove us away from the so called tranquil pools detracted from a high cost vacation. The staff were excellent but slow to act on issues. A Hilton or Four Seasons this isn't, in terms of so called 5 star or higher.

The crane was both very business like with accessible to internet service (free e-mailing). Yet it is also very family as well as a very private place to get away to.The ground was beautiful and the veiw was fantastic(ocean view). This was a birthday and farther day trip to my spouse and we couldnot have had a more relax environment with fully ascessiblity to what ever we needed to maintain the privacy. But when we were ready for activity, it was available as well. The crane is a great place for whatever the occasion may be. We had both a fun-filled as well as a relax vacation.

The hotel is currently under construction & there are no signage. At nights the lighting is poor & very dark.Prices of meals at the hotel were expensive. Based on the the location there were not many alternative restaurants nearby. The beaches were beautiful & the staff were helpful & friendly.I should have chosen a location central to Bridgetown. I believe in 2010 after all the construction is completed the hotel will be very elegant & beautiful. There were not many inhouse things to do-exercise room etc.I was holed up for two days because of heavy rainfall.

The Crane is beautiful inside and out. The staff is very friendly however they didn't always know the answers to simple questions about outside the resort. The beach is absolutely the most perfect mix of sun and flour-like white sand and clear warm water and fun waves you can boogie board or just relax in on all day long.

We booked our wedding at the Crane. Before leaving, we consulted with the staff and knew what to expect when we arrived (attaining marriage license, etc). The only thing we weren't aware of and prepared for is that, for the week, there was an authorization for the week put on our credit card. This affected our balance and budget but the staff was very helpful in allowing us to have an allowance to get through because we hadn't carried any extra cards with us for this trip (X at the front desk,in particular, treated us like family). Our wedding was PERFECT and because we booked at the last minute we didn't hire a photographer but was going to set up our tripod and create our own memories. Y and Z both stepped in as witnesses for the wedding as well as took the camera and camcorder to help us cherish our memories (we'll never forget you for that!!!!!). Overall, the resort was perfect. Some of the most beautiful views we've ever seen were both on Crane beach as well as at the resort. The views from the cliff are breathtaking! We were aware of the construction before going so there was nothing to complain about and we weren't affected at all. There were days that I wondered if construction was closed down or not...we barely heard anything. Because of the wedding, we got an upgrade and was blown away by the suite! Also, A (the cab driver) was awesome! Everyone was so friendly and made us feel at home! We'll be back again and again and again and again!!!!! We've found a new home away from home! We love you X, Y, and Z!!!! Thank you for making our wedding day and honeymoon package unforgettable! See you soon!

Unbelievable beach. If you're looking to be pampered with personal attention it's not the place, but the staff was extremely friendly and went out of their way when we requested certain things. Rooms were clean with a ton of space. Restaurants were expensive but convenient. The waitstaff weren't professional waiters, just extremely friendly people trying to do a great job. I definitely recommend eating out in St. Lawrence Gap instead, better food for the money. If you like being left alone and relaxing, this is definitely the place. Best beach I've been to with a 15 ft cliff you could dive off of. As a whole the resort was extremely clean, safe, and the staff was extremely friendly. W/out a doubt I would stay there again.

The Crane Resort is a very nice place to stay. There was a lot of construction that was taking place when my husband and I visited, which was a bit annoying during the day. The room that we stayed in was gorgeous and had a beautiful view. The hotel is located out of town so plan to travel for approximately 20 minutes (one way) if you would like to go out to eat. We never tried the resturants, but they looked very elegant. The view onto Crane Beach is supposed to be one of the best in the world and it is easy to see why when you step out onto the balcony. The staff was extremely friendly and the resort overall had a very safe feeling.

If you are looking for seclusion, this is the resort for you. If you would like to get out and about to see Barbados, this resort is not the best option. The resort staff does not assist with excursions to see the island. The room was great though. Very historic. Nice view!

"Not all pools are useable and those that are are filled with sand, food is very expensive and BAD (was served a raw omelet), concierge service was good only if you got a certain one, customer service overall was bad, however the cleaning ladies were the nicest ever!!! Obviously an island destination and speed/fast is not in anyone's vocabulary. If you want to stay in your room it is nice as long as your AC works. Plunge pool in room was good, but in the shade most of the time."
