General Description

Set in the heart of elegant Bloomsbury, the Garth Hotel is only a few minutes walk from The British Museum and within easy walking distance of Oxford Street and Covent Garden for shopping, Soho for Chinese food and Theatreland. Also nearby are Trafalgar Square and the National Art Gallery, as is Regent's Park with London Zoo. Other famous landmarks such as the London Eye, St. Pauls Cathedral, Tower Bridge and Buckingham Palace are easily reached via public transport or leisurely walking. There are many museums and art galleries nearby and within a short bus ride are Sotheby's and Christies, the famous auctioneers. Also nearby are Portobello Road and Camden Passage for those interested in antiques and fine art, and Camden market, a trendy and popular place for the young at the weekend. The hotel itself, is a small, privately owned hotel in Bloomsbury, the district of Central London famous as the home of 'The Bloomsbury Set', a group of authors that included Virginia Wolf and E. M. Forster. Built around 1800, the building is a Grade II listed Georgian town house of historical interest. It was the birthplace in 1839 of William De Morgan, the famous potter. We pride ourselves on the warm and friendly atmosphere at The Garth, and have established a reputation for our hospitality, which has brought back the same guests year after year. The rooms and public areas are decorated with numerous paintings, photographs and prints to create an art gallery effect. The 18 bedrooms are clean and comfortable and are equipped with tea and coffee making facilities and a hairdryer. Included in the price is full English breakfast and a choice of breakfast cereals and preserves.

Great customer service, rooms were tidy and so were bathrooms. My room was functional, isolated from the outer noise and on a good location. TV worked, sheets and bedclothes were clean, as well as the towels, and some basical items were provided. A little bit expensive, but not too much having in count I booked for august. Not a bad price I'd say. Food was great and the waitresses were very caring. I liked it, and I felt very warmly received and well treated by the staff at all times.

The customer service was really very friendly and the breakfast excellent! The only negative comment I have, is about the garden. Even though not in use very much during the \"winter\", smokers were directed there and therefore I would really consider keeping it more clean as well.

Clean, simple rooms in a comfortable hotel. Friendly service and a fantastic location just off Tottenham Court Road, 5mins walk to Euston Station and 10-15 mins from Covent Garden. Highly recommended and will use again.

the hotel was very shabby and the hotel manager upgraded my room as he felt nobody would be prpeared to stay in the single room in the basement. The room was on the top floor (5th) with no lift or help with luggage. However, the room was filthy, apart from the linen. The TV did not work and the taps did not have tops on. I have stayed on many hotels and this was the poorest quality I have ever stayed in. I had assumed it was ensuite but the toilet was on the landing and not in the room. More information should have been given about the hotel on the website and I would not have booked it. I could not have breakfast as I needed to leave by 7.20 and it did not start until 7.30, which meant I could not even have a bowl of cereal.

This was very easy to get to from the train station and close to the tube. It was pretty warm in the room (no air conditioning) but it was very quaint.

Hotel seems due for a major refurbishment. Bed and bedding in poor condition and toweling poor. No alarm calls and booking out took a lot of time. Location fairly good for liinks to nearby stations and UCL, however there was a lot of noise caused by helicopters through the night.Beakfast was good and better than many I have had.

a place with characterI enjoyed staying here. It was a nice size room with the 4 single beds and ensuite, It could do with some hooks on the back of the bathroom door for hanging clothes as the bathroom was tiny. The pictures on all the walls were really interesting - it was nice and clean and the cooking was good. Thanks for minding our luggage for the day. Central to everything. I would stay here again.

Good location, friendly staff and good quality breakfast, but let down by the size of the (quad) room. Can't comment on the size of the other rooms though.

Bads: The room was hot overnight; opening a window introduced lots of traffic noise; no 24 hour reception; room was not en-suite and the shared bathroom was along a corridor and down a flight of stairs; no rooms that allow smoking; no table/desk in the room; no internet access.Goods: you get a key and so can leave and enter at your discretion; full English breakfast included and very well cooked; friendly staff.
