A nice hotel mired by some inconveniencesHotel is currently undergoing restoration and decoration works and is completely scaffolded from the outside. Some internal painting work was going on next to our room. There's no double glazing and a lot of noise could be heard from the nearby road even with windows fully closed. We were given a complimentary bottle of wine which I believe was in consideration of the ongoing works which was a nice touch. Breakfast was good. I'm unhappy as I appear to have been charged twice for my stay. They still haven't cleared my visa debit pre-authorisation three days after my stay despite paying with cash so I'm £120 down until this is cleared. I've called twice and this is still unresolved.

Had a wonderful stay for 2 nights to celerbrate my wifes birthday. Some of the review about the hotel I read before going were not very god but all i can think is that they could not have been staying in the same hotel as everything was great for us.

On your marks...Excellent stay on all accounts, good food, pleasant staff, good room. One small thing: maybe the hotel could look into it's seating arrangements for single blokes eating in the restaurant in the evening. Instead of lining us all up facing one way - like we were under starter's orders in an eating competition - maybe they could mix it up a bit!

Excellent value for money, handy location and friendly staff. Room was good, although no air conditioning something that you may expect as standard for a 4 star.

The hotel was very nice and good value. The only unexpected thing was that the rooms are not air-conditioned as the building is heritage listed. This made the room very hot during the day.

Very GoodWe travelled by train and the hotel is 5 minutes easy and level walk from Leeds station. The hotel itself is an older building having had the main reception area renovated at some stage and currently undergoing some exterior work. It also seems to attract a lot of corporate events. The room itself was standard for the type although the bathroom was a little small. The service was unfussy and friendly. Breakfast was excellent with a very wide choice.

Although this hotel was booked in December we were put in a small attic room on the 5th floor this was not 4 star standard. The rest of the hotel was refurbished to a high standard but the 5th floor was only worth a 2 star rating. Very dissapointed as this was a special birthday treat.

Stay at the Met!This is a splendid, newly furbished hotel. The staff are friendly and helpful; the hotel bedrooms are well-equipped and the dining, bar and lounge are attractive - although I miss the old fashioned high back chairs and the opportunities to smoke my pipe. Fortunately, in clement weather one can perch and smoke in the car park. The hotel is also within easy reach of shops, the station and thetres. Al in all a good place to stay whenever in Leeds.

Filthy carpets and bedclothes in tattersI was pleased by the service I received atthe front desk, but as soon as I got to my narrow little room it all went wrong. The carpet was threadbare and filthy and there was glitter visible all over it. The bed looked inviting until I pulled back the covers and saw holes in the sheet. The mattress was ancient and there seemed to be no padding on the springs.I called reception and asked for another room and received an apology and was offered an \"upgrade\" to another room. I was told that someone would meet me in my room with the key and promptly thereafter there was a knock on the door. A confused looking young man asked me if I was waiting for a key and handed it to me an left, obviously with no idea why I needed the key.I took my belongings to the \"upgraded\" room, which at least had a newer carpet, but was otherwise as poorly laid out as the previous room. This room had single-glazed windows which could open so that I could get a better view of all the cigarette ends and bottles on the ledge outside. The toilet bowl contained a large dead fly.The bed was much better and fairly comfortable, however ,the spare pillows in the wardrobe, which I wanted to use as they were thinner than the bulbous ones on the bed, were a disappointment. One of them had small spots of what looked like blood on it and the other had holes in one side of the pillowcase. In the morning, the single-glazed windows let in the traffic noise and the beeping sound of a reversing dustcart which I do not find acceptable for a city-centre hotel. Finally, the wired internet access in the room was not working so I had no other entertainment than the limited selection of TV channels as I did not consider £7 for a pay-per-view film to be value for money.

Lacklustre and TiredWe stayed at The Metropole for just one night, I was travelling with my two children. The hotel is in desperate need of airconditioning! Our room was average but extremely hot, window only opened a few inches and even though the evening was mild it was stiffling. I am glad we were only staying for one night, anymore and we would have checked out. Breakfast was expensive and very mediocre. A percentage of the hotel has been refurbished and the other part extremely dated. I am sorry but would not stay here again, in fact had they offered me money back after seeing our room I would have cancelled and stayed elsewhere.

Poor service at the MetBooked through laterooms for £70 which seemed reasonable. When I arrived I was charged £10 for overnight parking and given a small room albeit clean with a refurbished modern bathroom. What really annoyed me was the meal at night, I ordered a starter and main course, waited half an hour and then they arrived-together? When I asked the waitress to take my main away, she replied 'sorry about that,I'll ask the Chef to keep it warm for you!!!' I complained and recieved my Fish and an apology but no discount (the meal was dreadful). The following morning when I checked out following breakfast at £14.95, the Receptionist asked if had enjoyed my stay? I replied with the above to which she said, 'sorry about that' and promptly took full payment. Poor.

Standard double room was small with no air con and the fan provided was little use. Buffet breakfast was good, but not great - lacked variety. Only one staff on reception at checkout time! However, hotel refurbished to a high standard - very very impressed. And best value in town - couldn't find another hotel at this standard in such a good location for that price. Would definitely stay here again for that reason only. Anywhere else is just an unnecessary waste of money given the small amount of time actually in the hotel (awake that is).
